- For this video I am going to be unboxing and reviewing the 4K picture for my latest 4K Blu-ray Collector's Edition pickup of Invasion Of The Body Snatchers from Arrow Video. I will also be showing 4K comparisons against the previous Blu-ray.

Fun fact - this was the first X certificate I saw at the cinema - I was 15 in 1978 and my older sister snuck me in to the cinema. I’ve been in love with Brooke Adams ever since 😍
Hence, I bought the Kino Lorber 4K version a while back and, of course, bought this Arrow release 4K … I owned it on VHS, Laserdisc, DVD, Blu-Ray and now 2 different 4Ks 🤣 - film has a special place in my heart.
I have to admit Richard and I didn't say it in the video but I do own the Kino Lorber release myself and I did look into both of them and it seems like the grains structure looks a bit more stable on the arrow Video release. I'm very happy to own both and like I said in the video I've also got a Steelbook edition of it and I'm almost certain I have two versions on DVD and my old VHS as well. Just like yourself I am a huge fan and I would love to have seen it in the cinema. What an experience that must have been like. Thank you so much my friend for taking the time to stop by
This is such a great film. One my wife and I watch every year during our annual month long horror movie marathon every October
I have to admit myself and my partner Ellen really enjoyed reading this comment because we do the exact same thing in October every year. We dedicate that month for horror. It's great to hear we're not the only ones
my point is, is that the 2016 Panasonic 3D/4K Tv is what turned my into a crazed physical media collector, and this new samsung s-90c TV is like desert on the 4K cake, truly amazing, I'm rewatching every movie I've ever enjoyed and enjoying it once again with superior color and brightness!

Never seen this movie but I've heard great things about it. Got the same edition from Arrow and can't wait to sit down and watch it. The Thing vibes sounds intriguing to me. Love movies where you don't know who to trust, it ads to the suspense. Great video Keith.

I think the 4k looks fantastic Keith and glad to see you got yours eventually. As you know i had to go with the other artwork, i think its one of their best in ages when you see it in person, you pick a winner with either edition and it was nice to see a slipcover which is very rare.
You are absolutely correct Steve it's a win-win regardless of which release you buy. As I said in the video I opted for this one because of the autumn look it has going for it. This, the thing and the fly are 3 of the best remakes ever…I also picked this up, stuck my blu ray steelbook inside with the old blu ray to save space.
The warriors also has a slipcover, definitely worth picking up if you don’t own the 4k and like the film.

I went from a 32" Sony Trinatron TV, to a 55" 3D Passive LG Tv 20 years later (Passive 3d is horrible, cuts the resolution in half) to a Panasonic 4K/3D active 3d TV in 2017 (TV still works Perfect) and now a Samsung S-90c, the sony Trinatron TV never revealed its pixels and weighed like 200 pounds :)
I'm going through the exact same thing at the moment. I got my hands on Sony's flagship TV for last year and it is hands down the greatest OLED TV ever made. So naturally I'm going over my greatest hits. Which is a blast in itself. I actually finally bought avatar on 4K and watch it last night on that TV and it was the first time I have ever seen an image that looked three-dimensional without it being 3D. Never seen anything quite like it. I honestly thought nothing would ever top Avatar when it came to its 3D viewing experience but my god I couldn't believe what I was watching last night and it massively elevated the movie for me.

Everyone crapped all over that remake of the Andromeda Strain, but I really liked it.

Yeah it’s a great release this one and I loved my time with it. Like you say, the ending is rather special and so well done. I picked this one up from Arrow and watched it a few weeks back. Great film though so perhaps another viewing is required. I thought that the transfer was outstanding.

Totally agree with anything you said about this movie. It's one of my all time favorites. Pre ordered it immediately when I heard Arrow was releasing this. Got the Arrow exclusive myself, I prefer that artwork. I noticed with this one and the US The Warriors release they both have a slipcover. I like that. But with this one I would have liked some additional artsork. They could have done another artwork on one of the three (slipcover, hardcover, amaray case). They did do that with the Warriors. But that is nitpicking. Really love it.

Yeah I have to admit Robert I was very surprised to see the slipcover on this release. I honestly don't know when they actually started doing that because I'm almost certain you get the slip cover with the 4K release of Carrie. I think it's quite a nice touch. But I see what you mean when it comes to the slip cover hardcover and amary. The reason to why I prefer this version is I love that autumn color scheme. It's my favourite time of year and that's why I opted for that one. Take nothing away from the arrow exclusive which looks equally as beautiful. I got this, I wished I was able to get the arrow video store exclusive but it sold out quickly, shame as the cover was way better. Your spot on about this and Halloween 3’s endings though. The lack of music at the credits is an especially nice morbid touch.
Yeah when you combined the ending with the credits there something so horribly eerie about it. I can't praise it enough. I have to admit I prefer this release than the arrow exclusive. But that's just my taste

Nice1 Keith, really nice set for a really good movie ! (I have the original Arrow blu-ray of this one). I love all the new artwork and that booklet looks excellent (some Arrow booklets are printed a bit "dark" imo but this one is nice and clear). Great review ! 👍
I think what instantly drew me to it was the autumn color scheme to it. It's my favorite time of year and there's no way I was ever gonna pass up on it. Hey Keith, couldn’t agree more. This one really made me happy when I watched it not perfect, but really nothing to complain about and like you said more than surprisingly good for being an older film. I have the keno release and unfortunately I must’ve just missed the cut off for the slipcover. Apparently it’s sold very well and I definitely wish I would’ve got one, that said when this one was released, I tried to get it but the importer I use here in the states sold out. I can get it a couple different ways but it’s a little pricey so I’m hoping for a US release as arrow sometimes does.
Funny story about this film me and a friend of mine were watching and when Brooke Adams does that trick with her eyes my friend thought it was some sort of special effect and I said no way in 1978 there’s no way they would do that back then for that small scene he was in Fattic and bet me $20 probably thinking there was no way to prove it one way or the other I quickly rewound it and played the audio commentary just to see if they would say anything about it and sure enough I believe it was the Director saying yeah she could do this trick with her eyes so we used it in the film or something to that effect. You should’ve seen his face and he partied with the 20 right then and there. I laugh every time I watch the film have a great one as always.👍
Honestly John I hope sometime in the very near future you can try and pick this one up. If I see anything myself I'll let you know. Chances are arrow Video will bring out a release of it over in the States. It would be criminal if they didn't. I honestly can't praise the set enough. So many special features with a phenomenal 4K transfer all wrapped up in beautiful packaging.

@@millerman9991 yeah, Keith definitely I am expecting this to be released in the states sometime soon, and I will absolutely jump on it. Big fan of the arrow box sets I have several and they are absolutely some of my favorite releases. I like them so much that more than once, a movie I probably wouldn’t have purchased since it is a arrow box set. I got it anyways and I’m glad I did, the movie wild things for example, a pretty nice transfer much better than I was expecting and as usual liked it much more this time around I love it when that happens anyways, looking forward to your TV review/update, have a great one as always👍

I picked up the Scream Factory Blu-ray back in 2016 and then Kino Lorber had a 4K release and I picked it up before Arrow announced there 4K.
I picked up the Kino Lorber release myself and the reason to why I got the arrow Video edition is because I heard the grain structure was a lot more consistent on the arrow release and not only that but the packaging is absolutely beautiful. Thank you so much Michael for stopping by
So interesting M8 that you so love Halloween 🎃 3 as do I, if you remember I told you previously that I actually saw it on release in the cinema. What I love are the panning shots of the deserted town and countryside near the beginning of the movie which I know the director was so obviously inspired by Carpenter. T L W almost out directs JC on Halloween 3.... What I film :)
I absolutely agree with you when it comes to Halloween 3. It's the only movie I know that's not directed by John Carpenter but it feels like it is. I know himself and Tommy Lee Wallace are Incredibly Close so he obviously picked up a few things from him. It's a shame it didn't get the critical response that it deserved back in the day but thankfully it's found a huge cult Following and rightly so. I would do anything to see it on the big screen. I got this Samsung S-90c TV, and it seems like it gets more colorful and sharper the more I use it... I may have been a bit negative after my last TV the Panasonic 2016 4K/3D Tv, the last high quality 3D TV ever sold to the public... That 3D/4K TV still works, and I have put so many hours on it, its amazing, but the 4K always had tracers on the blacks, this Samsung S-90c is vibrant and no black tracers, but is doesn''t have 3D
There’s also a 1993 remake just called Body Snatchers featuring Gabrielle Anwar, and Meg Tilly.
It’s not nearly as great as the 1978 versions but still a decent movie, you should check that out as well. 😊

Hell yeah! I double dipped on Invasion of the Body Snatchers. I have the Kino, and recently got this same edition from Arrow. Another beautiful release from Arrow.
I actually double dipped on it myself. It's one of them movies where I don't mind owning multiple versions. I think the arrow edition looks better in terms of picture quality. But it's only slight. Thank you for checking it out Frank

Love this film and have all the versions you listed including that Nicole Kidman Invasion which I really liked. I also like the Body Snatchers 1993 a lot and is the second best to the remake.
I only just found out about the 93 remake. I'm definitely going to try and pick that up and see what it's like. I do not understand why invasion gets the hatred that it does. Gabrielle Anwar (Scent Of A Woman) does a great job in it, too. and Forest Whitaker is always great. I just watched a somewhat cheesy movie called Cypher with Lucy Liu last night that I really liked along with Equilibrium, again, (Christian Bale) that I finally got on Blu Ray. Cheers.

Wow Keith, I only watched this again 3 nights ago, can you believe that and I watched The Invasion, last week. This is great looking on 4K, the transfer is excellent, I was impressed. Nice artwork on the box and the booklet.
I said it once Gary and I'll say it again great minds think I like. I can't stress to you how much I love that movie and to get such a beautiful release of it makes it that little bit more special. I imported this one too. It has a slightly better transfer than the Kino Lorber American version.
Yeah the grain structure looks a lot more consistent on this release. Two very good efforts though

It’s basically a port of the existing Kino Lorber release that came out several years ago in the US, although I think it’s a slightly different encode by Arrow (I have both the Kino and the Arrow release). The Arrow release is actually lacking some of the extra features from the Kino release.
Hey Ben. I actually have the Kino version myself but I never got around to doing comparisons. Just as well I didn't after reading this comment. But I'm very happy to own both because you get a nice collectors release for the arrow edition and as you mentioned the Kino has the better special features. It was a win-win in the end. They also fixed some missing dialogue with the taxi driver on the Arrow release.
Keith, there's also another version of Bodysnatchers set on an army base that is really damn good as well.

There's also the 1993 remake from Abel Ferrara with Meg Tilly called Body Snatchers that's definitely worth a watch. Much better than The Invasion.

I also have the Kino Lorba 4K and hope at some point to compare the 2. I don't know if Arrow used the same master as Kino Lorba or not. I suspect they did as it's so costly to create them.

I actually have the Kino Lorber release myself and I didn't look too much into it but from what I have seen the biggest difference that I've noticed is the grain structure on the arrow Video release looks a lot more resolved. Other than that it's much the same. No I don't have a function on my TV I just have a very good camera that takes great pictures. No I never picked it up. If I'm completely honest I never realized turbine done a release for it. It's horrible because when those turbine Editions sell out it's very hard to get hold of them. I have been trying to get the 4K release of no escape on media book from them with little success. Thank you for the Kind Words by the way

@@millerman9991 ikr lol tbh i love the 70s remake and the 93 one they are great, but all because it has the "whole" pod thing to them. the 07 the invasion one i didn't mind that one i dont hate it but they want in a another way other then the pods taking over from your body type of thing. the The Invasion movie they have it where people that are taking over they spit in another peoples faces and if you fall asleep you been taking over your not human anymore. its odd i get they wanted to try a new take on it. anyways as far as i know their has been anymore remakes from the 07.
Yeah I have to admit I don't mind them trying something a little different when it comes to invasion. It does feel like the stakes are a bit higher in that one because as you mentioned if you simply fall asleep that's it you're gone. The only problem I have is when I watch that movie and when you see Nicole Kidman at her worst in it I almost want to sleep myself 😆 🤣. But I rather enjoyed it and there's some great performances in that one

What do you think of this release compared to the Kino version? I have the Kino, and it looks fine for the film's age, but I'm reading that the grain structure is tighter on the Arrow release (even if they supposedly both used the same master). Any thoughts?
I am in TOTAL agreement with you regarding Halloween III - one of my FAVORITE boyhood flicks. Watch the Scream Factory 4K every October.
And, I agree with your comparisons of the two endings (Halloween III and Body Snatchers)... one of the most brilliant endings ever put to film belongs to Season of the Witch. I could never figure something out about the end of Body Snatchers, though: when was Matthew assimilated into a copy? We see him shriek at the end, suggesting he was a clone at that point, but when did this actually occur? It makes no sense because earlier, he is being copied when he falls asleep in his backyard, but he destroys the clone with the shovel....so how was he eventually copied again?
I have a ton of questions like this about a few of the characters.....
I have to admit Mike I haven't spent too much time when it comes to the Kino Lorber release but you are absolutely spot on the one biggest difference I can see is the grain structure is just a hell of a lot more consistent. Other than that it's mostly the same. I think there was an audio sync issue with the Kino release and arrow Video fixed it.
If you watch the end of the movie when Matthew is on the run there's a bit where he hides under a staircase or something like that and all of a sudden a torch is shined on his face I always assumed that's when he was captured and they obviously cloned him right after.

Yeah, I think you're right about the ending of Body Snatchers - from what I read online, people seem to agree that he was captured after he was found under the planks at the end, and we don't see him being copied....but by the time the next scene rolls around, when he goes back to his office, he's already a clone.
A couple of things about this, though: first, if he was a copy, why did he act so "human" when he was around the other workers in the health department office? And, for that matter, why were they all acting so "robotic," especially Elizabeth? Weren't the clones supposed to act just like the original host?
Also, there are some fan theories out there that suggest Matthew isn't really a clone at the very end - some say (even though Kauffman claimed he definitely IS a pod person) that he was actually human, but he points and screams at Belecec's wife to "test" her...to see how she'd react. What do you make of this? Seems kinda out there...
Something that always bothered me in the film, also: Elizabeth was shown being cloned in Matthew's backyard, but then she had another clone created by Jeffrey in their garden.... how could there have been two clones?
Furthermore, what is happening at the Belicec Baths in the beginning? How did Goldblum's character get cloned in one of the "booths" when it never made contact with him? For that matter, what happened to his cloned body when it disappears at the baths? That's never explained. We see an open window with the red garbage truck outside at one point, but why would they destroy the cloned Goldblum?
SO many things about this film don't make sense to me.....
@user-kv3ue5fp4c kv3ue5fp4c I think when it comes to Matthew at the end of the movie and why he looked somewhat human before the build up to that ending I think it's all there for shock value. I think it was designed to make you think he was human and then when the ending happened it would literally shock you. I honestly think Matthew was changed at the end of it. I wouldn't pay much attention to the fan Theory.
When it comes to Elizabeth I was under the impression you can be cloned numerous times until the clone is successful. As you know there was two attempts on Elizabeth but they failed.
And when it comes to Jeff Goldblum I was under the impression if the pod was anywhere close to you then the cloning can happen. I don't think you have to physically touch it. But look that's just my interpretation of it

Sorry for the delay getting back to you; interesting theory about Matthew. I suppose it's possible that Kauffman was trying to trick us by having him walk around with very human characteristics at the end, but could the clone even be able to behave this way? Could it control it? The way he looks at Elizabeth in the lab at the end suggests he's human, because everyone else is sitting there like zombies staring ahead while we hear the announcements.
As for Elizabeth's clones - as far as I remember, she was first cloned at Jeffrey's house by Jeffrey, when she came in contact with the pink flower he left for her. Matthew found her clone in the garden when he snuck into the house; however, when Matthew returns to the house with the police, Kibbner and Belicec, her body is gone. Is THIS the clone that confronts Matthew at the end in the weeds? If so, why wasn't it wearing any clothes all that time? Remember, when Elizabeth's original human body melts away in Matthew's arms at the end and we immediately see her clone, it's naked.
The OTHER attempt at cloning Elizabeth came when Matthew falls asleep in his backyard; in this scene, we see Matthew get woken out of sleep by Veronica Cartwright's character, and in turn, he destroys his clone and sees another Elizabeth clone in the garden...but was THAT clone destroyed too?
I'm going to think more about what you said about the Belicec/touching theory and get back to you.....
One other thing I wanted to reply to, Keith, with regard to your comment about the audio glitch on the Kino release - I believe the scene you're talking about was when Elizabeth and Matthew are in the taxi, and there's supposed to be a response of some kind by the dispatcher on the radio after the driver calls the ride in. This is missing on the Kino disc, but I don't think it's a pivotal omission.

Heard the transfer is a lot better than the previous 4K release of this film
They're definitely seems to be a more stable grain structure. I won't say it's a drastic leap over the previous 4k
