- So much of what we use is mass produced in factories by machines, but there are still people crafting things by hand. In this reel, we profile a variety of skilled artisans including a craftsman who builds automatons, a family that creates inventive custom coffins and two men who have been making the wooden carousels we all love to ride for over 30 years.

I feel like the antiquarian horologist and the automatons guy could really take things to the next level if they started a company together
Me too...really hope that both of them will meet someday...
❤
Now that would be a collaboration I’d gladly partake in!!!
500th like also that really would be a great idea.
Maria Roque dos Santos the automan guy cant speak English though
Suggestion: Put artists' names and a link to their website or social media into the description.
Linda Deneher exactly
Linda Deneher then in the future, if someone would like to either donate some sort of money or ask a question they have
@That Flippin Guy Fr, just search up their names on Google lmao
@@xxxxxx5868 its not only a matter of "searching names" for the sake of need by viewers.
It could also means a gratitude or like.. Help for promoting.
Like when u cited a source.
Besides, its just a suggestion. Presented in a civil manner. I personally dont think responding it with an attitude is necessary ☺.
That Flippin Guy you’re a wasteman
Mad respect for the fist lady, for making the parts she needs herself, if she cant find the part
pretty common for horologists to do that, many older watches does not have any spare parts to buy. We are learning to make watch parts with a tolerance of 0.05mm(~1/32 inches) in school.
@@OliverSallander okay? That doesn't make her work any less amazing.
@@ellieblunden1463 never said that either. Just informing people that it's common practice for watchmakers. She still makes good quality workmanship.
@@OliverSallander it wasn't that you were saying that it was common practice, it just seemed as though you were trying to make her accomplishments seem less impressive. Anybody who can do that kind of stuff deserves a lot of respect because of how much patience and technical skill they have to have :)
@@ellieblunden1463 No, if I did that I would make my own accomplishments less impressive too since I'm studying to become a watchmaker.
Those are some serious cheek bones

Clock guy from hellboy... He is back
@@bachvandals3259 Lmao.
She looks like one of the carved characters from the automations guy...
Yes ......indeed very high type.
Please leave their names, a description, and a link to their sites. They deserve the credit and it's them that made this video possible!
“They were done by ways that I couldn’t even do myself. They were done by candlelight, they didn’t have electricity.” Got to me so badly, it made me realized the craftsmanship they had at the time CRAZY man
They probably had a workshop with a big window, wake up early and work mostly in daylight. Saw the video from Van Cleef & Arpel, he said it's better in natural daylight but he was working on jewels so maybe it's different. But I think it's probably the same back then.

Ooooooo! That bird song! My grandparents had a mechanical bird that sang that exact same song! What a wonderful memory this brought me. Thank you.
the first girl would make some incredible redstone contraptions in Minecraft
That first woman had such a nice voice and air about her. Whimsical is the best way to describe her. And her craft was so mesmerizing. 💚💙
Man imagine having my coffin shape like a cake in my funeral..... then they will remember me in happy times
Just add a little dance in there too...
@@imweirdkk6073 yh.. The coffin dance.
My only talent is making terrible impulsive purchases and regretting them immediately.
Trrnce $100 handheld massager, $60 sheets with winter animal theme haha $50 monthly subscription box of survival stuff. A miniature Barret .50 sniper rifle (pretty awesome though). 250 ohm Beyer Dynamic studio headphones for the 45 minutes per week I play guitar through a handheld effects pedal. Completely unnecessary. Also bought the new wireless charging AirPods even though my old ones work fine. Ugh I have issues.
I am too broke to even think of buying. 😟

*Before there was Google Earth, there were these things called globes*
Y’all act like globes don’t exists anymore 😂😂
But honestly those handmade globes are beautiful
There are people who surprisingly never saw one before
I agree ^^
ok boomer
I’ve never seen one
Globes are cool and all but just like traditional maps, they aren’t accurate. Since the earth is round, you can’t make it flat, and since globes are odten perfect spheres, a lot fo accuracy is lost. Which is why in a way, Satellite Maps are a lot better. However, I do love the aesthetic
I want to be as in love with my job as these people are 😌
Can the globe makers make a 3-D globe so people who are blind feel each continents?
Reyna B that’s such a cool idea!!
That is a really good idea quick patent it so it yours
some globe has them
There are some already
I'm a geography student, my university has some 3D globes and wall maps. I love to look at them, they make feel everything more realistic
people millions of years later will dig up these coffins and just wonder what was going on in our minds
Pretty sure humanity won't last that long. A few more pandemics and the revenge of the earth for global warming and we're done😁
@@tanvikhare9710 girl.!
So optimistic!!!
those coffins are made out of wood so they will decay like the corpses inside
This is exactly what i look for on youtube
Random niche things people do for a living
That last profile went full Wes Anderson. It was great.
Daniel Jeramie That was immediately my first thought! Loved it
there you go youtube,im finally watching it after 3 days of constant recomending
Every time I hear the word “automaton” I think of Hugo Cabret ❤️
Hannah Marckisotto I thought the exact same thing
Me too
Same heree
I think of percy jackson. '''\_(0_0)_/'''
While I appreciate all of the craftsmanship, my two favorites are the unique coffin creators and the world globe makers.😊
Great stories, Great Big Story. Definitely one of my best channels on CZcams.💚
Good to see relatively young people keeping these hand made works alive, utmost respect to you all.
by any chance, has globe man ever been sued or boycotted by any flat-earthers?
Would he likely know if he'd been boycotted? :p
The one with the automata reminded me of The Invention of Hugo Cabret
Sophie Banaag omg i thought the same thing, too. And both of them are French!!
hiep tran he’s swiss
Wonderful skills and unusual crafts- PRECISELY my cup of tea! I’m a metalsmith/jeweler with over 35 years of experience-I’m looking at these videos with great longing for their studios and high admiration for their skills- If I had infinite time I would apprentice myself out to learn as many handcrafts as exist! I’d need a bigger studio too... mine is already bursting at the seams! Thanks for this video...hopefully My works will get featured like this one day...dare to dream
I want to say I admire your job.. Great skill
That Hungarian Rhapsody music tune was really well made.
the first and third artist made everything look so magical :O
I want to pre order a coffin for myself from the second story!

A very diverse group of talented people. Thanks for this wonderful video! It's so refreshing and inspiring to see young and old both working and being passionate about their art.
I just got up from sleeping......and then saw this. What am I doing with my life?
oh my god, the first artist just left me speachless... such beautiful art in her work... the bird singing brought me to tears!...
13 Flat-Earthers felt attacked by the last 3 minutes of this video.
I read this just as the narrator said: Globes! Globes! GLOBES!! haha
More like 85
They should make some "fun-flat-globes" for flatearthers.
109 flat earthers now and counting 😂
LMAO 🤣
i heard no user ever complained of the second dude’s work!
Why do you have a problem
yes the dead body cant talk or complain...
Coffin makers. Too cool. Hard working family, cool work. Wow.
Also those carousel artisans are incredible heartwarming lol they’re such besties
Amazingly skilled and patient people making/fixing beautiful things, wow!
You're so lucky to have that talent appreciated in your country
That bird box is one of the most enchanting things I've ever seen.
Those coffins look like the are just waiting to be dug up in a few thousand years by our descendant archaeologists just to make them scratch their heads and postulate.
67 people who dislike this vid are flat earthers who got mad of the globe making process.
I have a rabbit toy that plays music with a clockwork engine and a globe from the late 80s/early 90s (still has Yugoslavia and Zaire on it). Both were presents from when I was little. This video reminded me of them, of how precious these traditional objects, clockwork toys and globes, are. I want to leave both of them to my children and grandchildren.
All of them are talented and have wonderful patience to perform the tasks! Thank you for sharing their unique capabilities.
One of the most appreciated gifts I ever gave was a globe.
The pacing and symmetry of the globe one reminds me a lot of Wes Anderson. Made it all the more enjoyable!
I’ve been on the Bronx Zoo carousel. It’s insect-themed. I rode on a honeybee. There was also a praying mantis. A non-moving one was a dung beetle pushing a ball of dung and you sat in the dung. So interesting to hear that this company was the one that made it.
You are the best channel on CZcams. Straight up, the best.
Really cool but she’s working with spinning mechanical parts with her hair down and 😩😩😩
Probably only for the interview.
Either she is careful on such a spiritual level that her hair doesn't ever get stuck despite all those spinning mechanical parts or the camera people suggested that she'd look better (for the video) with her hair like that.
1:36 sure
I thought you meant the part when she was operating the lathe.. Thank God it's not, she doesn't really need it, the parts are not moving that fast and if she needs to work on them they'd be turned off anyway.

One of the best compilations of Great Big Story ♥️
That's awesome. I love music box and all these objects, strange how much I love these things.
Nothing better than an occupation that looks as cool as this one does!
Wow! The coffin artisan is amazing!!!!! These coffins are beautiful and so vibrant I’d love to be buried like that 💗
I am so impressed with all of this! As a full-time craftsman myself, everyone in this video is outstanding. The lady at the beginning blows my mind. That is beyond brain surgery. Seriously it really is.
The guys who make the carousels.... they have been partners for 30 years!!!!… I would give anything to have a partner in my business or someone interested in the same things. someone close by, we could grow alongside each other and enjoy the craft together! That’s the real joy of craftsmanship is having people to enjoy it with! They are so blessed. Sometimes I go months without talking to another luthier! It gets lonely out here
I absolutely love the creative coffins. When I was in Accra and Kumasi last year I saw many of them and was drawn to their unusual beauty.
dayum this channel brings so many cool stuff. many thanks !
This video just blew my mind.♥ Someone should really make a movie on every artists shown here. Hats off to their hard work and patience.🎆🌿
Phenomenal Artistry.
Thank YOU MUCH
videos like these of seeing people at work at their craft always help me to do the same and not want to kill myself.
thank you
my grandfather collectes automatons and the hummingbird boxes shown at the beginig, I knew those where special but I never realized how much work went into these machines I admired as a child as well as now
Another wonderfully interesting docu feature from A Great Big Story! ❤️ Love this channel so much
You guys make amazing stories. I absolutely love your channel. Thank you for all your work! 🤗
I'd love to have one hell of a large globe by those globemakers some day.
Beautiful work, just beautiful. It's so incredible the work that they do and the amount of time and effort they put in is just crazy. I give them so much credit for what they do. Goodness gracious, I know that I would never be able to do what they do.
The antiquarian horologist lady is so cool! And intimidating too... she's like toyman from DC comics. But really cool
I love the person that restores old mechanics
I really like the fantasy coffins! How creative!
I will grow up, I will travel around the world and visit all those people with these rare artistic and ancient skills and learn them.
Each of these little stories feel like they could fill a small documentary by them self. Fantastic
Omg I grew up going to the Mansfield carousel, I had no idea the owners did that!
No word can do justice to this level of genius. Respect.
What an excellent documentairy, well made! Really enjoyed watching, it’s interesting to see these passions, very admiring.
Working in the mentioned London's Globe Factory would be so AWESOME! I'm in love
Fascinatingly beautiful.
yes, beautiful mechanics, art, creation. without batteries or even bother to charge. I feel like a kid who just saw my childhood is actually full of magic.
All 5 do amazing work. Yes, it would be cool to see some collab with a few of these people.
Always impressed by INSIDER & GREAT BIG STORY😎😎
Amazing stories! More please!
I am in love with this channel, how amazing their vides are, so good stories and so good editing. I wish these channel were available in other languages for more people to see it, like Maybe be in Hindi and other langauges.
I would love to fix old clocks and automatons.... I love tinkering w/ stuff and tearing things apart to see how the work. I've also done some restorations on antique stuff like furniture and clocks and also a statue and a painting.
What incredible group of people 👏

FABULOUS CREATIVE MINDS! What a thrill to create art!
I often spent time in grade school looking at globes . Rand McNally was the country I most wanted to visit.
I love that the globe makers vid has a Wes Andersen feel to it.
This is the earliest I have ever been. Let me breath.

Fascinating!
The first one is so amazing!
That 17th century mechanics part is really neat! It's so aesthetic
Damn...these people are so skilled and talented. Just...WOW 😲
The first automaton bird was sweet and cute, the dudes ones (whilst he's undeniably very talented) are nightmare fuel
Love the carousel guys!
Oh wow i onc saw a video of Accra, Ghana bt the less developed area. This s beautiful
