Luckygate has had it much easier than previous managers. Let's not kid ourselves, if he were in Sven's or Hoddle's or even Hodgson's place, the outcomes would have been the same.

I think we’ll realise just how much Southgate has given us when he’s gone and the next limited manager comes in and doesn’t do as well. He changed the environment, the tournament fear has if not gone is now manageable, he has cracked penalties. He’s naturally defensive minded, this is by no means a bad thing, in every sport defence wins tournaments. It’s bloody frustrating when the team is risk averse and passes backwards but we’ve got one of the best defensive records in the world. We looked so much better in balance with Shaw on the field and while I do understand that Trippier is a very good player he’s not a left back, there must be a reason he didn’t play Gomez.

@@tomratterman8713 There are definite problems with the setup and the way England play, I’d rather he tailors his tactics to be as close as he can to what the way the players playing for their clubs. As far as I can tell the message is defence wins tournaments so we’ll play keep ball, pass it between you and pull the opposition around to create a chance. The problem is this mindset is risk averse and they won’t take a chance, have a shot or give a 50/50 pass which creates a half chance and generates some excitement in the fans. Most European players play in or have played in the Premier League and are very good players. The coaches know how Southgate will play and set themselves up against us to defend. We were in the lowest scoring group ever I think, they all played the same and no one wins. Spain won’t pay that way, nor will France. I think you’ll see England look much more comfortable against teams this style of play is designed to combat. It’ll be a better fit for those games plus Shaw is fit and most of the players have had minutes of tournament football. We did play much better against Switzerland but Saka’s goal came out of the blue. I’d much rather twenty attempts on goal and an easy 3-1 win. Better for the stress levels.

England needs to play 2 or 3 forwards. They are mostly innafective once they get near the opposition area because there is a lack of options. Because of this, they go backwards and sideways. The problem is they play Kane as a lone forward, and he falls too deep and can't run in behind for a counter. We aren't playing with an actual striker, really. We need to do this to make our midfield effective.

I jumped up down when saka scored as I'm an arsenal supporter. But also was worried he might miss his penalty but wow wow the cool. What a player? People could debate palmer is the better player but what saka offers is a typical no nonsense winger who cuts and cross or cut and scores. Palmer is more fancier and the only reason why I think Southgate prefers saka and he has a few tournaments under his belt now and very composed. Come on Southgate now show us your magic in by beating the Netherlands.

The reason this man has got so much negative feedback is because we are doing a Portugal. We stick to a big name and sit on this choice no matter what. Kane has been slow and we have excellent players to replace all of the front men. You would see a very different game with Palmer starting, Watkins or Toney to replace Kane. Gordon to replace Foden. The reason he does not do this is for being open to counter attacks. That is a smart and safe way to play but it’s very boring to watch unless we win. We to far in the knockout stages to expect anything but a tactic bore but we face Netherlands and we will be forced to attack as they will do nothing but attack. He will never drop Kane, I suspect the betting is so high on him that some background payoffs occur forcing the manager to play him. Anyway come on England 2 more boring draws to go and maybe a bit of luck again

Nothing personal but I hope after the euros England get a new manager. Add a good manager to these players and the silverware will follow. As for the next match please play 2 forwards (Toni /Kane) to stretch the game and give Kane that space to drop into if we have another forward stretching teams and give us some real pace up front. Too many in that midfield who play the same position. Drop one and give Toni a chance. Kane up front alone is allowing defenders to push up without fear. Play the channels instead of long balls. Awful tactics Gareth they look poor and it isn’t working 🤦🏻‍♂️

After the first group stage game I commented England needs to play 3-4-3 and involve players that can hold and dribble a ball. England did change the formation but still not the right players in some key positions. For example Tripper offers England no creativity at all, he found himself so many times in attacking third but just doesn't have the ability to beat a player, hence majority of his play was playing ball backwards. England is capable of winning the Euro 24 but just needs to have better balance in attack, there was no threat in England's left side attack until Palmer came on. Also England must stick with Rice and Mainoo and Bellingham 10.
