I'm Maori, and I don't expect different conditions or rights to my Pakeha brothers and sisters. But lets face the elephant in the room. Our people smoke like trains, we eat unhealthy foods, we set ourselves up for all sorts of illnesses. I get sick of blaming my Pakeha brothers and sisters for the way our people live. The truth is, we as a people need to grow up.

agree. It’s just people. Regardless of whatever “group” we assign ourselves to, some are good, work hard, contribute within family/society. Others aren’t as good and contribute less or not at all. It’s the way it is unfortunately. In an ideal world everyone would be in the first group but we don’t live in an ideal world. Having separate governing bodies changes nothing. If people want better outcomes for their group then the individuals of that group need to do their bit and be better. Sort yourself out rather than blame others for your groups woes. If everyone in the group is honestly doing their bit as an individual and things are still bad. Then you can blame others.

We don't need to reinvent the wheel.
We already have a structure for health, for everyone. Your wasting your time trying to create your own empire within an empire that already exists. The survival, the revival, the flourishing of the Maori culture of today is the result of all NZers working together. NZ already has a flag, a name, a universal language and a health system. All is continually evolving and developing. The Maori health authority centralised health when we need to localise, it created another bureaucracy/ administration when we need to pull back on spending. It was bias, divided and separate from the NZ system.

What has Mr. Penare actually said that the Maori Health Authority - nothing, but set up more bureaucracy - an education outcome that should have been the responsibility of the Ministry of Education, upgrading a few doctor's surgeries, and an institution to hold the Ministry of Health "accountable for Maori health" - THINK PEOPLE - Half a billion dollars - if they were really doing ANYTHING for Maori health it would be the practical actions - funding more nursing place fees at Universities; more funding scholarships for doctors who could be bonded to serve in areas that are predominantly Maori. The bathwater that Mr. Penare is speaking about was HALF A BILLION dollars of WASTED tax-payer funding. All the setting up of a separatist organisation is to DIVIDE New Zealanders, and make race the dicriminator. Just listen to The Marathonomahos.
