    I was christened as a baby, then I went to a convent as a child. I grew up, married, but unknowingly we had spiritual problems in our family.Two years ago, I turned to God for real, and my soul was saved. I was baptized by being immersed under water and am now a christian. I may not have been with God as a baby, but he was with me.Without my parents putting Gods protection on me, I may never have been saved and come to know God..

      Joseph L. It says the opposite. Jesus said to *TEACH* people then BAPTIZE. Jesus also said to *repent*. Babies cannot do neither. People are taught what Jesus ransom and death is,what it means and what impact it has for the future. Babies CANNOT appreciate the ransom,they cannot repent,they cannot learn and be taught. Most catholic babies grow up and decide not even to be part of the church. You must use your mind and body to follow Jesus after being baptized,babies have no idea what so ever.

      @cdamauser1963 Před 7 lety +3

      you should provide the book and verse that forbids infant baptism. It has been the tradition and practice to baptize infants from the very beginnings of the Church. Not everything is spelled out in scripture, nor was it ever construed or understood to be that way. You in fact are ignoring scripture when you demand that all teaching of the faith have to appear in scripture.Jesus Christ said in Matthew 19:14, "Let the little children be, and do not hinder them from coming to me."Jesus Christ said in Matthew 28:19, "GO, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit..."
      He did not say adults only did he? Did he ever put an age limit to receive Baptism?
      Acts 22:16, "and now WHY DO YOU DELAY? Get up and be Baptized and wash away your sins, calling on his name."
      So why do you delay in Baptizing your children?
      Acts 2:38, But Peter said to them, "Repent and be Baptized every one of you..."
      I would say that verse would include everyone, including infants and children of all ages. Peter did not say to leave your infants at home.
      Acts 16:15, "And when she and her household had been Baptized..."
      Did her household have infants maybe? Did Luke say "everyone in her household except infants"?
      Acts 16:33, "And he took them at that very hour of the night and washed their wounds; and he and ALL his family were baptized immediately."
      Again, were infants excepted here?
      1Corinthians 1:16, "I Baptized also the household of Stephanas..."
      Did Paul say "everyone except infants"?
      Luke 3:21, "Now it came to pass when all the people had been baptized..."
      Aren't infants part of "all the people"?
      For those who deny infant baptism, the burden of proof is upon you to show that in all of the verses listed above there were no infants in all of those households and families.
      Jesus Christ said in Matthew 19:14, "Let the little children be, and do not hinder them from coming to me."
      He also said in John 3:5, "...unless a man be born again of water and the Spirit HE CANNOT ENTER INTO THE KINGDOM OF GOD."
      How are they to come to Him unless they are Baptized?
      Those who say not to Baptize infants clearly have a Biblical conflict here, and they risk the salvation of the souls of their children.
      The baptism of the New Testament makes a man a Christian, and baptism saves,
      Acts 2:38, Romans 6:4, 1Peter 3:21.
      The "type" of baptism in the Old Testament was circumcision, which made a man a Jew,
      Genesis 17:10-14.
      Circumcision had to be done early in life, on the eighth day of birth.
      "He that is eight days old among you shall be circumcised, every male throughout your generations..."
      Genesis 17:12
      Eight days old and every male, certainly does include infants, does it not?
      I must ask: Since circumcision of infants was so important for the GOD of the Old Testament,
      why then are children excluded from Baptism by some in the New Testament?
      "When his son Isaac was eight days old, Abraham circumcised him as GOD had commanded him."
      Genesis 21:4
      "And when eight days were fulfilled for his circumcision, his name was called Jesus..."
      Luke 2:21
      Where in the Old Testament does it say not to circumcise infants?
      Once again, where does it say in the New Testament not to baptize infants?
      One final note regarding infant baptism:
      Infant baptism in the Catholic Church is just about the strongest demonstration of salvation without works that there could possibly be.
      The infant can do nothing, nor does the infant need to do anything, in order to be "saved". The church freely supplies all that's necessary, including the water, the faith, and the grace, while the infant truly becomes a temple of the Holy Spirit, an adopted child of God, a member of the Church, and co-heir with Jesus Christ ... simply because God desires all to be saved.
      The Catholic sacrament of Confirmation later allows each person to make the declaration of faith that was made for them at baptism.

    Reply to Zam, you must also understand that Baptism is a sacrament of the catholic faith, which is also followed up later when they are of an understanding age in a sacrament called CONFIRMATION, where they confirm their continued faith in the same religion, at that time they do have the choice to continue in Catholicism or choose other spiritual guidance and faith that will find them love, peace and happiness.

    Hello Lacey!! We are Catholic CZcams channel in Japanese🇯🇵❤️
    Could we cite this video in our video of explanation on Catholic baby baptism?
    We don’t take videos during the Mass so we have a lack of good resource to explain it well...
    I think it will be a great help for the parents who are preparing for their baby’s baptism!
    Also, in Japan baby’s relatives are not always Catholic (ex. only his/her parents are Catholic) so they don’t really know what the baptism is like.
    We will put some explanation about the baptism (like what the holy water and sacrum chrisma are) in Japanese on your video, and would like to upload it on our channel.
    Of course we’ll put the reference.
    Would you allow us to do it?

    I just want to let everyone commenting "how can a baby be baptized they haven't sinned!" In the Catholic faith this sacrament is usually chosen by the parents to announce your child as a child of God, and it's to wash away Adam and Eve's sin that we were born with. And then when we get older we complete the sacrament of confirmation and that's our choice to renew our promises!

      I'm Baptist, but I have friends who are Catholic, and even my fiance is Catholic. But there is something I'm confused on. Do Catholics believe that unbaptized babies go to Hell, since we all have sin on us when we are born? All of the Catholics I know say they do not believe that, but others say they do. And I don't get why Catholics would have a tradition of baptizing babies if it's not true. I mean, I have nothing against it if you do believe it. I've sometimes wondered myself if it's true.. I would hope not, because even though babies do sin, they do not know better yet. But sin is sin all the same, and no matter who does it, it's still bad. Also, do you believe that severely autistic people go to Hell for their sins too?

It merely marked him as a member of God's covenant people Israel. Likewise, baptism doesn’t create faith; it is a sign of membership in the visible covenant community.

    I missed out on my nephew's Catholic baptism when he was born in 2008. He's now 8 yrs.
    However I just got an idea. the next time our family and nephew are together I can pretend I'm a pastor and give my nephew a sort of second baptism.
    I can purchas a white candle. I can get a hold of the prayers. I can playbac a couple of songs for him.
    Then afterwards we can all have some cake.
    The interesting thing about this is that my nephew may end up remembering this event moreso than the original baptism when he was an infant.
    For some unknown reason my sister excluded me from the baptism. Yet we all live in the same city. It's like a hole in my soul that needs to be filled.
    Yes, I do have an uncle who is a Catholic priest but I don't think he'd go along with this 2nd baptism.
    So I do by myself with his Mom, his godmother/my aunt, my other sister, my cousin (if he chooses to stay), and aunt's partner.

    My daughter us being baptized this weekend! We went to the pre-baptismal class but this video was so much more helpful! Thanks. I just have one question, my priest said at one point they will ask us what name we give her. Do I have to pick a Saint's name? or do I just say her name? I was a bit confused, but since my baby was acting up at the meeting I couldnt ask! Thanks again!

    Just a couple of corrections.
    The Hebrew term is more properly spelled Kohen ha gadol or in Hebrew, כהן גדול
    Cohen is the proper name that arises out of Kohen or priest
    Second, the baptism of John the Baptist was not in the Trinitarian form but was rather simply a baptism (not unlike a mikveh) of repentance for sin.
    John called himself the forerunner of the Messiah and prophesied that the Messiah - Yeshua ha' Mashiach - would baptize with the Holy Spirit and fire.

    The church that Christ established, everyone that was baptized were those who heard His gospel and gladly received it and were baptized. ...They that gladly received His word were baptized, both men and women...It didn't mention baptism of infants or small children.

    Corinthians 1:16 Acts 16:15 …….. where the whole household (including Children) was baptised because the head of the household became a believer.... Nowhere does it say not to Baptise Infants …… Nowhere in the Bible does it say "Bible alone" but we have four quotes from the New Testament were it says "follow the traditions...""

    • @barfrockskin535
      @barfrockskin535 Před 6 lety

      Nowhere does it say that infants WERE baptized when households were baptized. It is an ASSUMPTION by those who promote the unbiblical practice of infant baptism that infants were were baptized in "household baptisms."

    • @1234poppycat
      @1234poppycat Před 6 lety +2

      Barf What you are saying is UNBIBLICAL. .. All means all. Otherwise Corinthians and Acts would say all Adults. In scripture Jesus said "Let the Children come to me""

    • @barfrockskin535
      @barfrockskin535 Před 6 lety

      Nice try AJA. Yes, Jesus said "Let the little children come until me. This passage when Christ welcomed the children in Matthew 19 says absolutely NOTHING about baptism. NOTHING. Furthermore, in this passage, Jesus DID NOT baptize the children himself, nor did he ask or command any of his disciples (or any one else for that matter) to baptize these children.

    • @1234poppycat
      @1234poppycat Před 6 lety +3

      Barf … Not such a good effort. Matthew 19 is a supplementary quote. It reinforces Acts 16:15 and Corinthians 1:16 Of course the Bible does not say all that Jesus said !!!

    • @barfrockskin535
      @barfrockskin535 Před 5 lety

      I guess you totally ignored my first response. Just because the New Testament states that there were "household baptisms" does not mean any infants were baptized. In fact, infants ARE NOT MENTIONED AT ALL in ANY of these passages where household baptisms are described in detail. Therefore, assuming there were infants baptized in household baptism is EXACTLY that: an ASSUMPTION. Faith, belief, and trust in Christ PRECEDED every single water baptism in the New Tetamentr. That is IMPOSSIBLE for any infant to understand or do. In addition, new believers who came put their faith in the redemptive work of Christ were baptized IMMEDIATELY thereafter (see Acts 2:41, Acts 8:12-13, Acts 8:29-27, Acts 10:44-48, Acts 16:30-33, and Acts 18:7-8). Also take special note of the baptism that occurred in Acts 8:12: "When they BELIEVED, Philip preaching the good news about the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ, they were being baptized, BOTH MEN AND WOMEN" (no mention of infants whatsoever). Again, notice that these people were baptized AFTER they came to faith, NOT BEFORE. Again, that is something that is impossible for an infant to do. The Lutheran Church, and like denominations (Catholics and Methodists to name a few) have REVERSED this order; to baptize and then come to faith later. SORRY, THAT IS NOT SCRIPTURAL. I also need to mention that I permanently left the Lutheran church in 1984 AFTER coming to a rock solid faith, and not staying with a church that cannot do EXACTLY what the Bible says. Furthermore, not only are no infant baptisms descriptively detailed in the Bible, the practice of that thing you call a "baptism" by a sprinkling or pouring of water over an infants head is not detailed anywhere either. How on earth can anyone stand by and defend a mode of baptism that is not even in the Bible? Infant baptism is not truthful, and is a lie. In fact, it really isn't a baptism at all. Believers baptism by immersion is something that SAVED PEOPLE DO, and is the ONLY mode of baptism detailed in the Bible. In closing, Christ himself at age 30 was baptized BY IMMERSION by John the Baptist in the Jordan River before beginning his ministry. And I assure you that what was good enough for Christ himself, it is certainly good for me.
