To be fair, speaking as an English (Arsenal) fan, the current format brings way more exposure and attention to the league. Many English fans were made aware of All-Star week for the first time when they wouldn’t have if it didn’t involve an English team. I like the idea of doing an MLS team vs a European team but they could also try to do the match during the MLS offseason (during the European winter break) so the MLS All-Star team has more time to prepare. It could be almost like a warmup game before the season restarts for both teams. I’m not sure if the schedules would allow this but it would be a lot more competitive
More competitive and it would actually be a ALL STAR team because the best XI would have been based on the whole season and not midway through But European teams aren't going to travel just for that in the middle of their season
I would like it to go back to mls vs liga mx. It would be a good way to kick off the leagues cup and to spice it up the winning league should host the next year’s leagues cup final
That would be awesome and there would actually be a " prize" to play for. They should also rotate; 1 year the all star game is in the US the following is in MX
It made the MLS look so bad even though it’s not. Only a few of these guys have played with each other before and had zero tactics going into the game but it made us look so bad 😭
Its Arsenals first weeks pre season game and they couldnt care less if they lost it because its all about fitness right now, thats why its a first week pre season friendly. Its not about being competitive with a US All star team for Arsenal. Its just about getting fit.
That was just a friendly pre-season Arsenal game that Arsenal is playing at 70% at most and they couldn't care less if they would lose a first week pre season game because its all about getting and staying fit to get to the season.
That would be cool. Or the All Star players and the European players get placed randomly on both teams. So Americans get to play on the same team as European players.
If they want to capitalize on European clubs then maybe they should host 2 big clubs to play an exhibition and simply present the all stars and maybe have those guys participate in the skills competition. I liked it when they went against Liga MX all stars.
It`s a friendly....It`s about getting into shape pre season. No one wants a hard physical game with possible injuries. Fans get to see their favorite players from both MLS and European teams. No one really cares other than the excitement of seeing new signings etc. These teams plays against other european club teams pre season too. No one gets upset or very excited by the results. It`s just training.
No not atall. A few things to make the MLS better and more competitive put all MLS teams into a top division and second division with also Introducing relegation like Europe and the PL have to make it more competitive and fun to watch. Secondly, ban commercials during half times on live TV It makes people want to watch more rather than being fed up of Adverts and commercials.
What about an MLS All Star team getting to play a game against the USMNT senior team. Would be great motivation for MLS players if they knew they would get a change to prove they are as good as a national team.
Bro...we were not even out of first gear...just our 3rd preseason game against thr best the league has to offer from guys that are in the full swing of the season....full season fit I have gotten tickets to mls games but each time I had better things to do. Listen, it's not about players not playing together, many national teams don't get but a week or so train together and they still do well. It all boils down to the American culture and their whole attitude about the sport in general. Start with stopping to call football soccer because it's the only football And then of course look at who plays there, retiring footballers. There's also no incentive for teams to do their best....the money is abysmal, there's no promotions or relegations ...yeah mls is not for me. COYG
I think that the guy thinks that a friendly game like that means more than just Arsenal getting fit during a first week pre season game. Nobody in London cares about the result. Just like MLBs spring training is in AZ/Florida, all results are meaningless.
Nobody is going to watch East vs West MLS vs Liga MX MLS vs USL etc People come to see the European teams. MLS needs the eyes of the world to grow. European Arsenal fans were up at 1 am watching the game. They wouldn't do that for a regular European game.
They should just go back to East vs West and keep the skills challenge. I like the idea of USA MLS vs MLS world, but USA would get their asses handed to them considering the league is carried by foreign players haha
How bout take the forwards from the team with the most goals, defense from team with least goals allowed. And midfield from the leading team in standings. Cohesion
I think it is time to go back to the East vs West game. The league was 3 times smaller the last time they did it. Another idea would be a MLS vs USL all star game.
So most fans would rather watch mls beat easier teams than to actually test their progress against the best in the world? Typical American view on football 😂

Good points here. Playing against European teams does have advantages.

Definitely would be ok with that too

@@robertblake1228 I know I’m saying that since the MLS Allstars lost like that it made the MLS look bad
People don't care. They just got trashed.
@@beezelsub Because they haven’t played with each other before and he’s loads of people do care
Arsenal was barely in 2nd gear and still made this game look like a Tom and Jerry sketch
😖

Perhaps the number 1 team vs a premier team. Like LA Fc v Liverpool
That would be cool. Or the All Star players and the European players get placed randomly on both teams. So Americans get to play on the same team as European players.
I’d like that too. So we could see a real MLS team compare to the EPL team or championship team

MLS v Liga MX is best
Stick to all star games vs similar level leagues (Liga MX, Saudi, J League maybe Brazilian, etc).
I would love to play Brazil all stars!

The sad truth
But they DID watch the all star game when it was vs liga MX all stars.
MLS vs another league of similar level like Liga MX or another is nice, west vs east too
They should just go back to East vs West and keep the skills challenge. I like the idea of USA MLS vs MLS world, but USA would get their asses handed to them considering the league is carried by foreign players haha

Mls USA vs MLS world 100%
Or back to vs Liga MX all stars
