Fishing for Rockcod, Lingcod, & Cabezon with Swimbaits from Shore!

- I went out to this Hostel at Pigeon Point and caught several Rockfish including a small Lingcod, Cabezon, Kelp Greenling, and three other types of rockfish. I try to explain how to use a swimbait effectively and where to fish it. These fish were caught on 4 inch Big Hammer Calico Hunter swimbaits with a 3/4 oz jig head. 10 Ft surf pole with size 5000 shakespear reel. Check out the hostel or a hostel near you! Cheaper than camping with all the amenities! (Link to 15% off tackle below)
.
.
For small tackle, clips, and hooks visit ebay.us/k0ZFGW for 15% off any order of $20!! They were kind enough to give this promotion to any viewer of this Channel. I'd recommend getting the following: #2 Barrel Swivel w/ Snaps (100pcs)[to attach swimbaits or crab snares], #2 Crane Barrel Swivel (100pcs) [for attaching fluorocarbon leaders], #2/0 or 3/0 Bait Holder (100pcs)[to attach to your leader as if going for stripers], and #1 Treble Hook (50pcs)[if you want to replace your lure hooks]. It should all come out to be $25.65 shipped if using the link above. Or $17.90 without the treble hooks. Should be a year+ supply depending on the amount of fishing you do. Enjoy!!
"Only the ones with the big mouths can get this meat" 😂😂😂I'm dead Matt your so funny.
He instantly regretted it as soon as he said it 😆
Appreciate you. Am a beginner and learning from you and others too. Never caught a rockfish yet. But i will. I like your channel. Very helpful. U inspire me.
Great video... I've both fished and done some spearfishing here in California off the coast. Love the fact that you showed us cooking up the rockfish...! Yum!!! :-)
shotgunaaron where you located?
you are the best man, been following you for a few months now... you deserve to be there on top. dont forget us early fans when you get big,,, hhahaha, good luck bro.
Now he is almost at a mil subs so...
This aged well
Of all your vids... this is one of my favorites... just love the hostel scenes w/ the follow-up fishing. See you on the water one day.
"Now the real fishing begins!" *runs AWAY from the ocean* (Love your videos, Matt - I'm addicted!)
I stayed there for a school feildtrip when I was in 6th grade... nothings changed lmao so cool you are there tho.
Btw it was called pigeons point I think
dont like eating fish and fishing myself seems kinda boring but watching you fish and catch all the different fish as well as the sounds and the beauty of the different places you go its awesome to watch
MrJonGx3 you should try fishing it's really fun and exciting when you catch and when you are relling in the fish
love watching you fish. great vids.
Dude! Love your videos. As a fellow Bay Area boy, unfortunately relocated to Reno. I love to get back and fish the areas you go to. Keep up the great videos. Making me homesick.
By far, the best fishing channel I've seen. You da man.
I used to fish out of Bean Hollow. It was pretty productive until that spot started getting a lot of pressure. I fished pigeon point a few times but only caught a few rockfish. Nowadays I go down south of Monterey to get quality rockfish/lingcod/cabezon.
That's quite a drive from SF but I've heard similar things about nice catches further south
One of the best stays I have ever had anywhere was at a hostel in Antigua, Guatemala. This was probably the nicest hostel I have ever seen. Free breakfast and smoothies (Liquados) in the morning in a beautiful courtyard with a hammock... Oh yea and it was *$6 a night.*
We became buddies with the guys working there and we would jam (gig) at the Mezcal bar/library across the ancient cobblestone street (yes it was a tiny Mezcal bar with a tiny door in it which led to a tiny library. All dark candle-lit scenery and *great* Mezcal).
Granted, it was me and three of my pals with the room to ourselves so it felt like a hotel stay but those were the times right there.
SIX DOLLARS
I so glad that I found your
I am quite certain that the first perch you caught is a stripped sea perch, not a rainbow. Love the channel, keep on keepin on!
"Only the best mouths can take this piece of meat"...
Love watching your videos don't stop!!
Awesome video! That gray fish was what we call a sea bass on the Oregon coast
awesome video you earned a subscriber ! love the cooking also !
I fished this exact spot! Decent luck... caught a single rockfish and a TON of hangups.

Oh shit to that stranded guy 😂😂
Hi I live in NY. I do a lot of stripe bass fishing. Keep those good ideals rolling.

Love your vids! Please include more detailed animations such as 5:15 I really learn a lot from that
Hey Matt, I can't believe this video is more than 6 yrs old. Compare to your videos recently, you're not getting any older, nice.
I truly believed the secret of happy life of yours is lots of fishing, a block of butter and a couple of avocadoes. 👍

Right on man nice video
you can catch some pricklebacks here too
Dude been watching your videos. definitely inspired me to do some crab snaring, that fuckin hostel you stayed at my family and I would camp by that haunted light house right by that hostel in half moon bay. they always have the pastachio stands right on that stretch of road! Anyway hope to run into you out there, have a good one!!
lol for sure. holler at me if you see me!
I always enjoy your videos Matt, nothing better than coast fishing and not knowing what you might catch. Is rainbow perch the official name of the first one you caught? I've always known them as striped sea perch, but i don't know :) keep up the videos!
Yep. They're striped sea perch. There's a rainbow variety of perch as well but it's not very common up in Norcal waters.
both are correct.
I third that high tide was the best. Why do you prefure extreme low tide? Denmark/BUTTERLAND
My fellow Mustang love the information on the places you go fish I was born hear in SF and went to Lincoln also I remember the time you and your folks got stuck on the ledge up by backers beach some of your fishing spots be taken me back when my uncle use to take me round the bay as a kid right on.....
Cool to see that swim baits produce fish from shore. I've tried but never caught anything. Do the lures get snagged a lot?
When I catch fish I use the Ike jime technique to kill, bleed and destroy the spinal cord with a thin piece of music wire from ace. I recommend this technique and the fish taste better this way. I hope you will try it!
Lures do get snagged a lot until you learn the spot you fish and know where the rocks are and what to avoid. I always bring about 6-8 jig heads just in case. Also, thanks for the ike jime technique. I've never heard of that until now...very interesting. I will try that next time I go fish, put them on ice immediately and see if there is a noticeable difference in the quality.
You got to try pescadero
This is the video that got me hooked on your channel, great fishing, and cooking. Keep it up brotha.
thats a black rockfish. call em black snappers or black bass up here in Oregon. that last was a cabbie.
04:29 That was a black rockfish. Could have been a blue, but I didn't see any lines from the very brief camera time
Don't forget to order one of his Fisherman's Life shirts ....
$27 for all of that!!! Whoah!!!
Good vids u earned a subscriber

if you don't mind me asking, how did that guy on the island get back? I surf fished on that beach a few weeks ago and I realize that rock island is pretty far from shore lol
Edit: I hope oscar was wearing a wader walking back lol
did you watch the end?
Eugene Chao where is this place ??
Hi there , can you tell me something about the rods you prefer to use? May be interesting to make some reference on your videos. Regards from Perú
What is the seller's name on Ebay since the link is expired now?
a cool video would be him on one of the islands that get surrounded by water and he would have to eat the fish to survive and he can only have limited supplies
great video! can u do a video on lures for each type of fishing? colors? weight? set ups? I tried surf fishing stinson beach but no luck on a clear water day. you seem great at this, I'm still new and could use some great advice. thanks for all your awesome help.
Ok yeah, I'll try to incorporate all of that into a future video. Thanks for the suggestion!
The grayish one was called a blue
hey matt I live in san mateo, i go to hmb alot to fish but could never find your spots:( wish you could show this veteran some cool spots.

How can I find that eBay seller? I know I’m late to the party but fishing wasn’t my thing until I came across your videos.
