In addition to their lifelong friendship and glorious Hollywood careers, Bette and Olivia have something else in common. They both died in Paris. Bette died at the American Hospital in 1989. Olivia lived in Paris for 65 years (!) and died there in 2020.

My family like Bette's have French Huguenot ancestry. Actually, she was very fluent in the French language, in earlier interviews. Here, she was a survivor of 4 strokes and still was sharp as a tack! She will always be a legend of one of the greatest actresses on stage and in film. We love you Bette ❤!

Does not matter the language or the accent . That voice and that presence are international. Together they translate into 'star' across all borders and cultures.

My favourite actress of all, Bette played the role, never the fool...no actress has ever came close to her magnificent acting, apart from Elizabeth Taylor (Virginia Wolfe) Bette sadly missed,.

It seems like Bette can understand it when they speak French. The poor translator can't get translations in before she starts to speak again, though.

The fact is, Davis and de Havilland got into a nasty fight at the after party, with Davis pushing de Havilland into a pool. Davis resented Olivia showing off her proficiency in French. Felt she upstaged her.
Old resentments never die in Hollywood.
