  • On June 22, 2024, Reading & Northern's 4-8-4 T1 locomotive number 2102 ran an Iron Horse Rambles excursion from Nesquehoning to Tunkhannock, Pennsylvania and back. In this video, you will see many of the locations that the consist roared past in between including White Haven, Mountain Top, Laurel Run, Dupont, Pittston, and Falls.
    Huge thanks to my dad for not only driving me around for the 2nd time within the past 30 days but also giving me another angle at many of the locations!
    If you enjoyed, make sure to like and subscribe for more. I'm hoping to be able to chase the Pittston Ramble in August, but that is very much up in the air right now.

    Anyways, now that there are two months before the next ramble, this probably means that the majority of videos coming will be NASCAR related, with stop motions and the Pocono race vlog. Thanks for watching, hope you all enjoyed, and hope to see you all return to my channel!

    If not for nothing, fellas of the Reading & Northern, 2102 is easily the CLEANEST locomotive I have ever seen. From smokebox to tender she is spotless! Thats a rare thing. Well done!

    I think I was either right in front of you or right behind you during your chase of it near Tunkhannock. As when you passed that person in the purple shirt I was right nearby the engine at that same area chasing it too.

    Great video man! Hopefully, the chase wasn't completely foamer central. There are a lot of great shots and locations you can get along this route but you definitely can't get them all, whether it be because of terrain, time, or traffic. Nonetheless, as long as you had fun, then things should be golden!

      Thanks, man! It was an absolute blast and the steep grades made it the best excursion yet

    This is just awesome how they seem to run her a full bore for a good chunk of the trip! What was the reason for throwing the diesels on the train at 15:39 taking her through the gap?

    • @firelynx1108
      @firelynx1108  Před 5 dny

      The grade was near 2% in spots I heard so 210/ needed extra braking help. It definitely made for a good show later on the return trip as you can see near the end after exiting Pittston yard!

    What was with the diesels halfway through the first part of the trip?

    • @firelynx1108
      @firelynx1108  Před 7 dny

      Extra braking power because it was too steep of a grade

      Dynamic braking down the hill. It's to help preserve the longevity of the brakeshoes.

    Nice! Was there any specific reason why diesel engines were utilized for pulling the entire train at some parts?

    • @firelynx1108
      @firelynx1108  Před 4 dny

      Down through Laurel Run, the grade is extremely steep so they needed the dynamic braking

      It has its classic reading 6 chime and a hooter the reason for the hooter is because the locomotive can be so loud at times it drowns out the 6 chime.

      You’re in the ballpark, but the Hooter is on the 2102 since she was originally used for freight trains like the rest of the T-1s. The 6 chime was added during the original Iron Horse Rambles from 1962-1964. Ol’ 2102 has worn numerous whistles several times down the years, but ever since the late 1980s up until 1991, that Hooter has remained a consistent whistle for the engine.
