Yellowjackets Interview: Cast Teases The Extreme Shocks Ahead

- Taking a note from Lost, Showtime’s new drama Yellowjackets kicks things off with a bold and confident premiere (directed by Jennifer’s Body’s Karyn Kusama) that features a plane crash, one hell of an ensemble cast, and more than enough mysteries to sustain a season of must-watch television.
In 1996, the New Jersey state champion Wiskayok High School girls soccer team is headed to nationals in Seattle when their chartered aircraft crash lands in the Canadian wilderness, killing most of the adults on board and leaving the teens to fend for themselves. As the episode teases, rescue is not on the way, and the group has to go to some dark places to survive-even cannibalism appears to be on the menu.
Unlike Lost, Yellowjackets wastes no time getting to its “flash forwards,” and the pilot also takes us to 2021 where we meet four of the survivors, now adults clearly haunted by their pasts and coping with it in some peculiar ways.
There’s housewife Shauna (Melanie Lynskey), who’s just barely suppressing secrets in her suburban milieu; high-achieving Taissa (Tawny Cypress), who’s running for office; and Natalie (Juliette Lewis), fresh out of rehab, on her way to meet nurse Misty (Christina Ricci) with a shotgun in hand.
These four women may have survived the unthinkable, but it’s clear they’re not out of the woods. To preview what lies ahead on Yellowjackets, The A.V. Club spoke with Lynskey, Cypress, Lewis, and Ricci to learn more about how the past is quite literally haunting their characters. The stars also explain how they worked with their younger counterparts on the series to find their characters, and then they take us back to the ’90s with a rundown of their favorite music from the decade.

I can NEVER get enough of Juliette Lewis. She's just that perfect blend of edgy darkness but vulnerable coolness that you cannot fake. I love how her characters seem to become her, and not the other way around. All of these actors in the show are phenomenal and the content is great.

I absolutely LOVE this show and I absolutely HATE that I have to wait a week between episodes.
You can't enjoy a show as much when you can just binge it over a couple of days. I'm all about waiting a week between episodes.

I started watching the show on Wednesday and caught up today and so all 8 episodes were already available but now I HATE having to wait for Sunday for the next episode
They are KILLING me with this wait a week to find out what happens with the cliff hanger every damn episode.

Having gone to high school in the late nineties, this show is an absolute nostalgic dream! I lost my mind when they used the song "Mother, Mother." The show is killing it!

All of these performances are exceptional. Melanie’s character is so multi-dimensional. When she gutted that rabbit and told her family about it…! Juliette Lewis…that scene in the car where she blows up at the girls before getting out! That’s some Oscar-worthy acting! And don’t get me started on Christina. My friend and I have a full ongoing text correspondence just about how crazy Misty is and debating whether she’s gonna eat Shauna’s baby! Favourite show right now!

these 2 episodes so far has me SO scared of how scary it will get. it's already so good. this show is SO good at building the tension between the characters to when it turns to them starving and in survival mode, you can totally see the already existing tension happening, totally explode!
Not sure who kills more in this.. Juliette Lewis or Christina Ricci? All I know is their scenes together are already iconic cable television moments.

U might have to wait a lot longer than 2 months. Taissa's actress has said that by the end of season 1 winter hasn't even hit yet.
U may have to wait 5 years to see how this all wraps up. They are planning on this being 5 seasons.

I love seeing Juliette Lewis and Christina Ricci in these roles! I also like the newer actresses I didn’t know before.
On episode three and blown away by it. So well done and extremely appropriate given how extreme our culture has become. Love the juxtaposition of rage and willingness to act "normal" because that's what society wants. The edge beneath the superficial surface.
Love the cast. Really entertaining show. Christina you are amazing as Misty. Tiffany does her character so well.
First off adult Shaun is hilarious in the show just the way her personality she's my favorite adult version character. And second I had no idea she had an accent!

I'm watching the newest episode tonight (7).. I've been a fan of ALL of these women for years as a gay man , they were all fucking ICONIC in the 90's grunge/cool vibes and I was so so so happy to see them TOGETHER on screen! The younger cast was casted so well, as well..Great great show, can't say it enough.. Favorite of the year!

We listen to Hole now. My guy likes to hear it whilst working ( from home? Brings back good memories. A friend of my husband's, from work, went out to the desert with us when we motorcycle rode and his wife brought that album/cd.. whatever. She asked if she could hook it up to our outdoor speakers. I still remember her singing to it in her shorts n hiking boots. Ron and Dawn. Young happy just married couple. Good times.
