Honda Civic Seat belt Repair After Wreck

  • The video is to help illustrate a locked seatbelt repair (Not to OEM specs) for a 2006-2011 Honda Civic. This is a continuation of a repair video posted by another member.
    Must read: The OEM designed the seatbelt to jam during an accident. After the following repair is performed, the seatbelt will still lock but no longer have the mechanism to jam. If you wish to return your vehicle back to OEM spec you must purchase a new seatbelt.
    I hope this helps!

    Although this video answered some questions it is lacking technically. 1. Did not call out the tools needed to remove the coil spring case (Metric T10 star wrench) or the pin housing from the belt frame (Metric Allen wrench). 2. Finally when unwinding the coil spring case, count the turns needed to relieve the spring tension and re- assemble with the same no. of turns.

    The first video (which you point to in the comments) had a retractor where the only problem was in the mechanism that locks when the belt is pulled out too fast. Once that mechanism was reset, his retractor operated normally. If his retractor included a seat belt locking mechanism, it must not have triggered. So his seat belt may be fully back to normal.
    In your retractor, the mechanical fast-pull locking mechanism was not the only problem - you had a belt locking mechanism trigger, and that used the metal pins to jam the belt reel. You simply removed the pins, without replacing them or making any other repairs to the mechanism, so the belt locking feature will no longer operate in any future crash.
    You may be willing to make this tradeoff for yourself, but if you ever sell the car I hope you tell the new owner that the driver's seat belt is not fully functional any more. Other people with the same problem, who are watching this video, should be aware that this does not seem to be a full repair - it just removes a portion of the mechanism.

    Thank you so much, this worked just fine with my honda civic 2008 after the airbag was deployed and the belt was stuck due to the pins you mentioned.

      I hope you read some of these comments. He took out the bearing from the main part of the locking system. There are so many parts for Hondas...

    doing it this way, would it be possible for the locking mechanism to work again if you had another accident/wreck ? if not it would be safer (and quicker) to just install a new seatbelt

    What happened to the pins. Do you need to put them back ?

  • @dappawap
    @dappawap Před 2 lety

    step 1 should have been disconnect battery to lessen the chance of setting off igniting the charge while unplugging it and also to keep srs light from coming on
    The ball bearing must go back in for locking mechanism to work. I did not see this clearly in video. Maybe the belt will tighten from the explosive charge by the srs system...maybe.......that is a big maybe ...

      My situation was a result of a car accident. In my case, the pins are no longer reusable. The pins are ejected by the air bag system during an accident assisting the seatbelt mechanism to lock. My repair demonstration is to make the seat belt function without the OEM Airbag SRS operation. I hope this makes sense. Thanks for watching!

    Don’t do this unless u want a useless seat belt if u orientate the device the way it’s belongs in the car it will release. This guy could easily be responsible for a seat belt failing and someone dying

      Not his issue. No one is forcing anyone to do as the video. And who do you think you are? Telling people what to do? That's weird thinking that you can control others actions

    Replace the fuvkin thing friend of mine needs one dont think its a good idea to stop the functioning of the belt. The airbag without a seat belt literally breaks necks and kills people. 100% of the time. Go to the scrap yard.
