Cbr500r is my first bike. Never even sat on a bike before i got it. This bike is very easy to ride and has decent power for what it is
In the uk you have to have at least an A2 license to ride the cbr500r.
@@munchkin5224 A2 is the smallest licence in the UK. The next one down A1 limits to 125cc(that you can ride on L plates anyway)
@@chrisredfield3240 ok thanks Chris. I know you can ride a 125cc for 2 years with L plates just by passing a CBT, the A1 means you can ride a 125cc without L plates, the A2 means you can ride a bike upto 47bhp, next is the full license.
I'm about 5'6" and 120 pounds would I be able to ride this?? Or would it be too big?
@@decalcifying im pretty much the same dimensions as you and I can comfortably sit on this bike and almost flat foot it. If you are unsure just go to a bike shop and just sit on a few bikes, that's what I did to get a general idea of what would fit me.
Great video showing this bike ! My first one was an CBR 500R, I stayed with it for two years and recently changed for the CBR 600F. You are absolutely right about the gap from one to another, the horsepower is doubled and delivered in a different way, much more agressive.
Did you have any riding experience before you got the 500?
I have a CBR 300R and I don't plan to sell it. It's my first bike, and I've had it for 2 years now. I am in love with it. I don't need anything faster. I have stainless brake lines and upgraded pads. I don't want a $500+ exhaust because I don't want to piss people off and not only that but it's embarrassing to be loud AND slow. It's one thing to be FAST and loud, but when it takes redline shifts and 6.5 seconds to 60 mph, it's sad. Plus a stock pipe won't make cops want to pull you over. By the way, the 500R is much heavier than a 300R, like 70 lbs. 300R would kill a 500R or even 600-1000rr in twisties. I couldn't care less about doing 100 mph on the street. I like having my license.
I recommend upgrading if you have the finances. I rode a CBR250 for 3 months then got my CBR1000RR. Never looked back! Ride safe and Aloha!
I'm poor. Still paying off the bike. $130/month is helping to max out my credit score. Once it's paid off I might look for something else. I prefer single cylinder bikes so that narrows the selection down.
Goodluck brother, and I hope you can get a new bike soon! Ride safe!
GT6SuzukaTimeTrials it only kills in the tightest twisties, like 15 mph turns, but then a super moto would be better then the 300 for the super tight turns. I own a cbr300 too, but only for commuting. Ride more bikes is all I am saying. You may find out that you are a sumo guy, or a standard guy, or even a cruzing guy. Don't just settle for the first thing you swung a leg over...
Have fun!
This was my first bike and I put a koffmans shorty slip on. I loved the bike. I owned it for a year than I upgraded to a FZ09. If I had the space, I would have kept it. These bikes are great for a beginner and I recommend every new rider to buy one.
This is my first bike, it’s been good to learn on, the handling feels nice enough and running through the 3 and 4 gear is a fun time on curvy roads around 6-7 rpms is where the powers at
This is my first bike and love it. However if your an individual that learns fast you will out grow it super fast and want something faster. But a caveat to it is this bike is super comfortable and really is a good daily ride. I rode this off the lot and it felt like a lot at first but not even 10 minutes later I was use to it. I do not regret buying this bike at all.
I had the same feeling, I had mine delivered because I was fresh out of msf with no previous experience riding, I took it to a nearby parking lot and practiced for 10 minutes and been rolling ever since
@@marquiseharris1892 guys thank u so much for sharing ur experience..they put some courage in me..I finished my msf course 2 months ago ,and after that rode a friend's bike in parking lot for couple of days last month.
Getting my 22cbr500r from a dealer 40 min away and I plan to drive it off from there. I am worried but looking at both of your comments gave me some comfort
@@zooomthesquirrel3707i wanna start riding after the MSF with this so all of this is very helpful
I see a few CBRs in my area so i hope i can get a 400-650 cbr because i heard they’re the best. And i looove the design out of all the good beginner bikes (like the Ninja)
New bikes might have slippery tires because the tire factory mould has a chemical coating to help release the tire. If you pull away with strong throttle in the first 200 miles, 300km, the tire might spin causing a small accident.
Happened to me on a new Honda Fireblade many years ago. Pulled away with fun throttle and the rear spun up, bike lay down. Little bit of plastic scratched. I was lucky.
i gave up my GSXR600 for a 2017 CBR500R and enjoy it. Everything is cheaper on the 500. it has no top end but for my daily commute of 40 miles of highway, it does just fine! i don't like the short gear shifts but all in all i really love it!
My first bike I ever sat on was a 2014 cbr650f, I still have it. amazing bike. LOTS of torque.
Your videos are some of my most favorite to watch on youtube! Ive been riding for about 10 years and just recently bought a 2013 cbr500r and love it! It's not crazy, but it's comfortable, sporty and incredibly fun to ride hard!
I had the same 500 as my first bike. Then I went to an 07 600rr. And now I have a 2012 1000rr :D I do love Hondas
Hey this is a while back. But i wanna get a 500r or a 650r im curious is there a big difference between them.
@@quintenrodolf6978 yes there is. The 500r is a 2 cylinder and the 650r is an inline 4. If I had to go to one of those 2 id go for the 650r. Just my preference though. Inline 4s sound the best!
What would you pay for a 07 cbr 600rr with 7 k miles a multiple mods(led cluster yoshi exhaust inter grated turn signals) few others as well. Oem fairing in great condition??
You should do a comparison of the Honda 500 to the Ninja 400 and Yamaha R3
I had a 2016 CBR500r (which received a facelift) and rode it on a 5 country tour where they have a laughable speed limit of 80mph and the bike performed fine. I sold it 2 years ago and bought the 2020 CBR650r which is also a nice bike even though I hardly ever ride faster than 130mph+. For US roads this bike is more than sufficient for low speed limits...
You have really straight forward reviews. No clowning around. No trying to be cool. No distorted fish-eye lenses. No click bait prizes. And that actually is makes your channel better.
I have a 2005 CBR1100XX SUPER BLACKBIRD, it has scared the crap out of me a couple of times but like anything just because the power's there doesn't mean you have to use it, especially on public roads.
Love the name brother! lol. Ride safe!
LOLZ, thanks F.B.P.! Just combined my two favourite things....
Hahaha! I'm with ya! :)
I hope not, that would be weird......Bahahahaha!!! Oh wait, my bad, you weren't talking about the masturbation part were you.....sorry!!!
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
I have a 2015 CBR500R I just got this year, I love the way your exhaust sounds though. Definitely going to look into that.
Just traded my 250 for a 600f3 , world of difference and I love it
Excellent video, I'm in the process of buying a 500cc myself soon, these type of review is very helpful
These are great first bikes, plenty quick enough for new riders,.....
I bought one of these to learn on and it was great to learn on, plenty forgiving with the power but also torque-y enough to not always have to be 100% in the right gear all the time. But now that I've ridden it for almost a year I find it's much faster and more fun than I thought 10 months ago and I still have plenty of fun on it. It will get changed for a 600 at some point once I've got my open class but it is a brilliant first bike
Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Getting mine from dealership in 3-4 days ..my first bike ,and I feel better to know it's forgiving.
Ahhh, My 1st bike. From a pedal bike to a CBR500R. Actually watching this video cuz I miss it. Just wanna see it and listen to it again. Brings back a lot of memories.
The video that convinced me that a 500r was the motorcycle I wanted thank you
@@RobinhoodCFO the bike is great and super smooth but yea a little bc I rode dirt bikes for like 12 years prior to getting the bike so id get a bigger one if I could do it again but I was intimidated by the cars
@@RobinhoodCFO I thought the 500 was a little faster then like 400s and stuff but it’s the basically same
@@RobinhoodCFO but no problems with the bike itself it’s a great bike just bc I had prior experience I think I shoulda got something a little bigger like a 650 but it’s a easy bike to sell and ride and it’s comfy very commuter friendly
@@jayboog4434 You would think a 500 would be faster but the 400 ninja is actually faster. I like how the 500r looks more though.
Very true about the full throttle. I just got an 05 CBR600RR and accidentally throttled literally like 25% by and the bike was bout to fly out from under me. Scared me to shits.
I really appreciate y’alls videos. Great reviews and absolutely love the realism from you guys. Thanks for everything you guys do!!!!
Whitney
I started off on a 125r for a year and now im getting the 2018 cbr 500r
I would add that it’s important to match your bike to your environment. I used to live outside of Ottawa. Lots of terrific, hilly twisties, but lots of gravel and broken pavement as well (Canadian winters). I could run away and hide from supersports on my KLR650, because I could hit cross-grain ruts at full lean without breaking traction. They’d blow past me on the next long straight, but I would just reel them in, over and over again.
Thanks for test driving my man!! I choosing which motorcycle going to be my second motorcycle.
my first bike ive had for 3 years now is a 2013 CB500X, perfect first bike imo
I had an XJR yamaha for 3 years. Sold it and downsized to Honda CBR 500r. Yes a lot slower but a great fun bike to ride
i like all your videos your review of motorcyclesis spot on on each bikes wish i can visit your shop one day to see your bike and say hi ride safe my friend
I've had three of them in Thailand and Cambodia. Where I live, anything wider and heavier than two cylinders will keep you from getting through traffic. 600cc goes faster than you can realistically go without getting into an accident. The Honda CBR500R is my preferred bike for SE Asia.
big step up - go everywhere doing 135 kph - will do 190 - what more do you need - just about ti ditch old exhaust - fitting full system akropavich and power commander - 83 mph on normal 2 way roads - fast enough!
Picking mine up this Saturday! Gonna be my first!
Agree with you 100%. Honda's 500 class is great as an entry, and honestly, I used to have one (CB500F - the naked one) as a secondary bike for when I didn't feel like taking the V-Rod out. Still a fun machine... but definitely nowhere near a 600 supersport.
ive been rideing for a few years 3 on road and a few before on dirt. had a 500r as my beginer road bike and love the 500 only just got a 650r. in the turns the 500r is great ive kept up with 650s and other bikes of similar power. i can out preform my mate and his derestricted mt07 in the hills. its a good bike for comuteing and beginers
sweet little bike! I've been looking at a couple newer cbr500r's that look sick but i ended up buying a sweet little 2005 CBR600rr and I'm in love with it!!! Honda, can't go wrong with a Honda!
I started two years ago on a 1994 Honda CBR 600 F2. I was given the choice between the F2 or a 2002 F4i. The reason I went for the old lady was ergonomics and less twitchy throttle. I got my license at 28 last year and I have never dropped it. It can be a decent beginner bike, but I don't recommend it unless you are 25+ and know your own limits. If you are some 18-year-old who just wants to go fast - start with something less than 500cc unless you have a death wish.
Thank u for the great advice .I'm about to be 29 and am getting my first bike 500r 2022 from the dealership
I would like to ask you a couple of tips like things to avoid if I dont want to drop it.
you were in 4th gear bro.
The entire time
Bought my wife this exact bike for her 1st motorcycle. She loves it as do I. I'd trade her my 1000rr anytime.
Hey, I'm getting back on a bike after a while. I was going to buy this so I can get good again do you think I will be disappointed?
@@mrr6663 I'm 8 months late but I've had bikes from 50cc to 1200, I'm not a speed freak no longer. I still have my honda cbf500 2006 I've had it since around 2015 its heavily customised now like but it still runs beautifully
Great video, I couldn't agree more when you said "that you (the rider) are the only limitation" when you see these guys on 600's or 1000's thinking they'll be faster than a 300 or 500, it's true in a straight line (can't beat raw power) but straight line performance get old very quickly.
I just bought a 2003 honda cbr954rr and it is amazing.
I got a 500r for my first bike. I slid out on it today for the first time and scratched it but I love it. It’s perfect for me as a starter bike, I just need more practice.
I just got one as my first bike also. Dropped it this weekend on my hill. So waiting on a shifter and foot peg, so I can get out and practice more.
Hi Riley , what do you think caused the slide?
@@rosemaryblazevic8159 hi, how did the drop occur, I'm a beginner rider who finished my msf course ans lives in hilly area. Wanted to know how the drop happened
Riley , do you also think the fairing is of good quality which doesn't break easily on drops ?
Are you in East TN? Looks very familiar. Reminding me of home. Great info, looking at a hell of a deal on a 2015 in my area and this completely convinced me. Thanks!
Amen my brother keep the word going.
I agree with all of your points! I started on a CBR250R and rode the heck out of it for 3 months before I bought my CBR1000RR. I definitely recommend the CBR500 as a legit starter bike. Thanks for another great review! #bikesandbeards
i love your videos !!!
Bless you Brother.
My first/entry bike was a 1970 Triumph Bonneville with a kickstarter and a magneto.
I wonder what a true CBR 500rr would feel like when I say that I mean if it was broke down the same way as a super sport is in the motor high compression head in line for cylinders 125 CC's per cylinder with the same overhead cams and valves compared to a 600 SuperSport that would be awesome think about it a 500cc super sport I think would be a lot closer than we think it would definitely be able to rev higher in the RPMs then the 600 and have less torque but should be lighter it would be pretty cool to see!
If you were in the market for this bike, consider what you get for the Kawi 650. Supersports are a completely different class, there's no reason to even add them to the comparison.
I have a 2021 CBR 300 and I love it, I'm a small person tho I'm 5'9 and only weigh 128lb so it's perfect for me weight and stance wise with a ankle I broke a few times
It's in the same class as the Ninja 400 in terms of weight and power basically. That cc number is confusing because it's so close to a 600, but it makes about half the power as a 600 does. People are really looking at this bike in the wrong way simply because of it's displacement.
i didnt even hear anything about the bike, what a nice place! those trees are beautiful
l this was my first bike l had it for two years and l love it its so much better than a 250 way more grunt with better capabilities and its reliable. l have raced a 250 and won and then again but l had a pillion and still won easy, l have cruised with other bikers 250/300 and they have to go through the gears so much more than l do and it sounds like they are thrashing it to get up to speed where as the 500 you can give gas and get up to speed and not ring its neck. 100% recommend the 500 over the 250 any day
I agree with you completely, a ninja 400 or cbr 500 are better in my opinion than a 300 for beginners. You would be able to pick up a used 500 for cheap too.
There aren't any cheap used 500s on the market anywhere near me - unless completely trashed.
@@ws8080 I think the market is just high right now. You could also probably find a cheap 650. But unless you know what you're doing, go for fuel injection over carbs.
Subbed after the scripture !
Well that’s why you made a video on a 2013 Honda CBR 600, if you made one from 2002 to 2007 you would be way more happier.
I just got my first bike for commuting, cbr250r, plenty of power for me, even at 100kmph
Confront it does not have the power on top end that the Kawasaki 409r does but its seat is longer for tall people and the suspension is great
Just got one of these 2 months ago. Freaking love it!
My issue with the Honda 500 platform is how heavy it is. They are at least 30 lbs overweight. Otherwise, nice bikes. I would probably prefer the 500X since at least you gain a little adventure capability with that weight.
Yes!! The scriptures in the beginning!
this bike don't win you any race but get you from A to B with a smile on your face.
Would u buy a 2015 cbr500 with 6900 miles on it for $2800? Or a new last yr model 2018 cbr300 for $3000?
HEY! I’m 21 and I’m about to get my FIRST bike, I have plans on getting this 2020 Honda cbr500r in March. I’ve been watching tons of videos about motorcycles and yours are my favorite. Could you possibly do a review on the 2019 or 2020 version of this bike. Thank you brother
Did you end up getting the 500R? I have a 2020 ZX6R but also picked up a 2019 500R for cruising around comfortably. The 500R is plenty fun and I don't feel like I need to jump on the faster bike every time. I ride my 500R probably 70% of the time.
Just bought this very same bike a week ago. Same year and model. Still learning as it is my first bike but I love it already
It's a great bike if you dont need a lot of power
Best review of bikes
I bought the rebel 500 about a year ago. Pretty sure both these bikes share the same engine but they're tuned differently. I've used it as a daily commuter every day through the winter in Philadelphia. It's my first bike. Put about 6,000 miles on it and while I sometimes wish I had a little more power, I still love it. Btw, it's rare that I can't get way out in front of traffic if I'm trying to even on the 500.
Great points Robert! I actually rode a Rebel 250 (very similar to the Rebel 500) during my MSF class a couple of years ago. I imagine it is a great commuter bike. Ride safe my friend!
I almost bought a rebel 500, as my first bike. It did ride great, deff a good choice... but I felt in love with the new Suzuki SV 650, that was just a little lighter ... I do appreciate what Honda did to the new rebels , they look amazing :-)
Robert Stimmel I hope you aren't driving on 76 during rush hour haha. If you are, you're braver than I would ever be.
NijaBoiTellEm Haha. I try to avoid that! 76 is a nightmare beside Kelly drive being a more fun ride. I work restaurant hours so I'm usually missing most of that crazy traffic
Robert Stimmel Nice! I'm hoping to get my license this summer and enjoy the scenery that our city offers. Just not during rush hour haha.
Got my license on a cbr125 and upgraded to a Cbr500 I love this bike
I have a 300, should i upgrade to this or something bigger?
I feel like the sweet spot for a street sport bike is 250-400. I like revving the bike out and 600s can get to 70 in second gear which is fun but fun is kinda over quick unless i want to go to jail.
This video is 3 years old now but for today 2021 I would go with the CBR650R.
It has a wider tire on the front to! 10mm like the back but yea it’s slightly bigger!
500 or 650 CBR which one for beginner 6-2 215 lbs?
i love and use the cbr 600 ahhhhrrrr ahhhhhrrrr - it´s a amazing bike.
idk man, the 300 and 500 hardly have a power difference, I've owned a 500 and rode my buddy's 300 quite a bit. I'm not much of a fan of either, however, great beginner bikes. Once I got my 600f4i I could never go back to the 500.
Nice video !! Where is the location I loved the nature 👌👌
ok, so which bike would you pick... CBR500R or the Ninja 400 ??
Words of wisdom ..Amen 🙏
Well I have a wee 50cc scooter and looking at getting into some real power. I ride around very bendy roads to work which is a bit of fun But I want the power to go on the open road and for 4 hr trips to the next city. Can't decide on the 300f or 500f (the R sports riding position wouldn't be the best for longer trips).... Any suggestions?
500f, you'll have to push the 300 hard on that 4hr trip
They should just sell this as a starter bike u can keep after u learn. It’s basically a slightly bigger slightly fast cbr300r. U would think for almost double the size of the engine it would be much faster. But it doesn’t even hit 120mph
looking like a good idea for young. first time riders should not be able to get R1. if they have no experience but 🙏safe travels and im definitely like and just seeing this now im supposed great to hear even though it is evident that you have been on bikes probably be years on a seat but u still Know u can do everything just right and✝️ is driving we are all trying to hold on and i just got 09 CBR 600rr $1500 bucks and it was just theift recovery and its just good thing top of the triple trees wasn't broken and it is still 4 tapped holes and it was saved by sliders and it is not my first 600 f3 had Yoshi pipe and for price and condition it was just the same as a scooter 😂 and I don't feel safe if i can't kick in the butt just if i need to get out of the way
Starting the in-line at the end was saying yeah the cbr 500 in shit
I’m pretty short and this cbr500 works well for me. Low seat heigh.
I wanna get one of these for my first bike plus I can get people I know that wanna ride on it
God bless you bro 😎
Love the words of wisdom man, great addition to every video.
Thanks for the vid..i have a question..i found a honda cbr 500rr on craigslist.. the person asking 4500..2013 low miles. What's the difference between the 500r and 500rr or did the person make a mistake when he listed it.. I'm sorry i don't know alot about sports bikes but I'm trying to learn as I'm in the market to buy one and i want one i don't kill myself on. I currently ride a honda 750 spirit and it is my first bike. I wanting to move up to a sports bike and am looking for good acceleration but not needing to go 180 mph lol. Also are there any weight ratings for these bikes for us plus size folks haha..
Ain't no such animal as a RR. Certainly not in Europe. The reason is that it was specifically designed to fit Europe's A2 category (35Kw limit). There is nowhere to go with the engine. You could alter the geometry to make it more aggressive but I can't find a mention of it. Besides, there is no racing category for 500cc, so its as relevant as a desert penguin.
How about whe you compared it to cbr150v3?
I have both, cbr250 2011 and cbr500r 2012. The 250 is a dream around town/heavy traffic, the 500 is the comfiest bike Ive had in years and I use it for longer trips! Enough power for any situation Ive been in. And its BIGGER than the smaller 250/300! Do not say its the same...then there is something wrong with you!
Yeah I agree! I was confused when he said they are the same size as the 250s and 300. The 500 looks like a proper sports bike
@@jonathanedward1642 so true
Got the 250, perfect city bike. Super light, and decent on petrol.
Can you let go of the throttle while in gear the way he does a few times when he takes both hands off the bike? I thought that stalls the bike out or is that only when your not already riding at a certain speed.
It's like letting off the gas in a car. Engine braking will slow it down and it will carry on at idle in whatever gear you are in so it will be a low speed. It may bog the bike down trying to speed back up though if you don't downshift.
i really recently started to love bikes i just dont know how to ride and get license for it in California
There are classes that you can take that will teach you. Taking the class will cut out having to take the driving portion at the dmv as well as lower your insurance
Bro read my favourite verse at random before riding the bike I was thinking of getting… now I have to get it
Owned one for awhile great fun bike good low mid range speed...not much top end...lousy breaks...
What did you think of the brakes?
@@markfox1545 mine was a 2014 maybe they have improved them by now...but if you road very agressive the breaks just wouldn't get you stopped...
I’m trying to switch from a cruiser to a cbr my cruiser is a 650 vulcan do you think a 500 would be too small or would the 600cc be better for me? I’d say im not the best rider but im definitely not a newbie.
I just love the color scheme on the 500 but i’ll have to look around.
I had a cbr500 after a bking and rocket 3 it was pleasing to fill up and torque feels more with worse suspension but it was gutless like a tuned cub90.
bought a CBR650F for my first bike, and it's a fucking rippa. I love it.
Nice neighbourhood; where is this?
I got my motorcycle endorsement Tuesday and I have a CBR600f4i. It's been fun and enough power to quickly get out if the way of the cars that don't pay attention.
are both 600rr and 1000rr considered 'leader' bikes or is it just the 1000rr? asking for a friend ;)
