. When I lived on the island of Kwajalein in the Marshall Islands, we had no cars and everybody rode bikes. I built a trailer for my bike to haul dive gear, including tanks, for four divers. Hauled a couple hundred pounds of gear on a regular basis. You did a mighty fine job building that trailer young brother.
Great idea. I am amazed at your thoughtfulness and completeness of this project. Well done. Look forward to more great videos. As a Grandfather I am proud of our younger generation that actually builds things rather than destroy things.
THE best basic design I've seen for such a trailer in three days of searching...I want to build something I can take my small dog with me down the bike trails. Yes, it's a beefy design and yes I'll modify it...but the greatest help is seeing something put together in great detail with clear instructions and reasoning behind it. This is a great starting point for me. Thanks!
Awesome project!!! You could even take advantage of the gear left on the rear bike tire and hook up a battery and a small electric motor with sprocket and chain and a switch to make it into a pusher motor to help up hills. Even hook up a generator like on a bicycle light set to one of the tires to help keep the battery charged when you are not using it. or add a solar battery tender to help keep the battery charged. Awesome trailer hitch connection by far the best I have seen in a DIY hitch !!!!
Very nicely built. It looks sturdy and rugged yet it also has curb appeal. I would be proud to haul my stuff behind my bike in that trailer. Nice touch with the licence plate!
I like your hitch coupler assembly. I made a whole trailer frame one time out of PVC pipe, goose neck and all like yours and put a gusset @ 45 degrees below the 90 degree going to the bike seat. I simply used smaller pvc pipe for the gusset drilling the holes with a hole saw. Made the smaller gusset pipe long enough to glue a plastic cap on each end and letting it dry good over night. I used rubber hose to make my connection to the bike with a quick pin like yours. The only draw back I didn't like was trying to line the holes up with the plastic pipe and pushing the pin threw all of it. Picture my frame with being a rectangle with a T connection in the middle of both sides and a pipe going across making it very strong. This is also where the sold axle went through and ball bearing air tires 5/8" axle (Harbor Freight) mounted to. Axle rod Home Depot. You can off set this crossmember moving it forward or backwards to suit your needs. I also used a large plastic tote to put stuff in to haul. I pop riveted the tote to the frame and front goose neck with 3/16" rivets. That way you have a really nice water proof trailer. I like your idea kid! You keep thinking and building stuff and you will have a rich and rewarding life!
I'm an old fart that constantly rants about how creatively useless the younger generations but then there are exceptions. You are certainly one of those very rare exceptions. Happy trails to you!
It’s your douchebag attitude generation think you run this world. And did it all. Your so creative but you have time to bitch probably about your own kids and their generation. Remember prick your the shits that lead it at one time. Fuck off!
Hey Kenny I tried making one a few weekends ago and it didn't turn out as I would have liked. You have some fantastic ideas!! Thanks for some ideas, I am going to try again. I had trouble with the draw bar, seat post hitch and wheels. I hope the next attempt works!!! Nathan PS I am thinking about building a camping cabin. I want to get a channel and get started with bush craft. The hut I mentioned before is not very far from our house so I am making something further away!! Stay tuned
You say "just" a lot in your video, but there is no "just" about it! Well Done! Your creative process was a pleasure to behold! America was made great by people thinking out side the box and sadly, we have lost much of that ingenuity and creativeness over the years, but it is exampled in your work here! Bravo! I especially appreciate your PVC/Golf ball hitch. The example of impressive, creative work like yours is an inspiration and perhaps an indication that we haven't lost our entrepreneurial spirit after all. It was a pleasure, thanks, and keep up the good work! TBar.
Thanks for showing us this....Love the way you created a hitch ball....I've been thinking that just such a system could turn any hand truck into a bike trailer...and your device is just the thing.
good job....i thought of building one myself but due to lack of tools, i just waited patiently until i found a good $20 child trailer from craigslist...removed the nylon parts and put a heavy duty plastic tray on top
Wow that's really a very good job you did building that bicycle trailer ' I could have never done that' because I know it would have never turned out right ' wish I could find one already made"
Thanks so much for this. You may want to consider being a shop Teacher with your great explanation of how things work. Cheers from Ottawa, Ontario Canada!
why don't you put a small 2x4 right underneath the lights to make like a bumper it would help keep the lights from breaking just a thought.. nice job your giving me some ideas. peace
Looks like a nice sturdy trailer but a bit heavy to pull along. There are maybe ways of making it a bit lighter like plastic mudguards even plastic side panels.
I built a trailer that is 5.5 feet wide and 8 feet long. its a flatbed. I mainly haul bikes on it. surprisingly its not hard to pull at all... I already had it in a Christmas parade too.
I was thinking of adding the motor and battery to the trailer not the bike. You can find electric scooters and bikes at thrift stores pretty cheap and just adapt them to the trailer and extend the controls to the handle bars with a cable and male female electrical connection like on a trailer towed behind a vehicle. when the trailer is not in use simply unplug and disconnect from the ball like on a normal utility trailer. the trailer with motor would help push the bike up hills from behind.
I thought of making my own trailer too....but i can not come up with a really nice hitch from household items...so i ended up buying a beat up child trailer, removing the nylon clothe and putting a rectangular Rubbermaid container on top....$35 for all the second hand materials.....i used it to collect empty cans for recycling.....i made more than $2000 from it....i really miss that trailer...i had to leave it in Canada when i moved to los angeles
Very nice, I've seen a few metal ones but I like the wood PVC idea since I don't have a freaking welder I may just go with this. This would be perfect to tow a small boat around in (with a few modifications). Thankx.
awesome vid kenny! i have a electric bike and i just might build something like this for ir :) thanks allot for the idea and instructions! keep up the great videos!
You should put an electric conversion kit on your bicycle. It will really help with the hills. Cheap lead acid batteries would easily fit in the trailer so you wouldn't have to break the bank on lithium batteries.
u should try the stuff from the outside of the camper trailer it will not just protect the wood from rot it will give it the amazing looking and waterproof it and stainless steel sheet metal lasts longer than wood
I built my own bike trailer about a month ago and the other day I needed to shift some dog food and it was the only thing that could easily move the amount I had at the time. I then worked out I had loaded 175 Kg's (385 lb) on the thing without knowing it. Luckily I had made it out of steel and had my new cast hitch on.
The engineering solutions are really good and a lot of thought went into it, except aerodynamics. I doubt you would want to pull this very quickly in any event, but anything over 10mph is going to put serious pressure on the front of this rig. You have a 308 square inch wind catchment system and some fraction of that in the back if you do not have it securely covered (we'll just round it up to 500 square inches). That is over 3 square feet of air resistance, though that would be reduced if the cover is on securely because the wind won't be able to catch any of the back on the inside. If you could get some really lightweight plastic or maybe bend up some hanger and make a cage to put on the front to create a V shape facing forward (if you use hangers, you could stretch a plastic bag over the frame to create the > shape). The air resistance over 10MPH is the main resistance on a bike and it exponentially accelerates up with speed The numbers just explode as you go up. Also, cross winds are going to be really dangerous with 968 square inches of wind catchment (with the top securely covered, up over 1500 without). A 15mph wind could probably knock you over if it hits at just the right angle, especially if you get bouncing of the wind off the ground and it puts sideways and upward winds on the side, the underneath and those fenders. I was going to build a bike trailer and had solved most of the building problems, but it was aerodynamics that caused me to just buy a used 2 baby trailer. It's structurally sound and very aerodynamic.
You. Can find your specific state plate (for personal use only, not affiliated with any DMV or Tag Agency) by looking up bicycle licence plates on eBay, it's made of same material, but not embossed and inexpensive; I'll be buying my own for my rear bicycle rack
- Really good, smart trailer. I use a two-leg stand to keep the bike upright. Vastly better than a sidestand, especially when a trailer is pushing the bike a bit. Also you might one day enjoy learning to weld metals. - For about fifty years I worked only with wood, but then got a welder - marvellous extra abilities. If you do, get a wire-feed welder, they're easier to use than a stick welder. - I recently built a box trailer a bit like yours. I just put a box on top of an ordinary $30 hand truck. (I did a vid on that hand truck type 'cheat' trailer, and was amazed that although very simple, it's got 150,000 hits. See 'World's Cheapest, Strongest Bicycle Trailer' Bruce Thomson in New Zealand.
Innovation at its best nice & cheap design.. I'm a innovated person myself I like the challenge of end results of making something from nothing that serves me well. Nice work Brave of the Wilds...
Hey Kenny. I was just wondering if you plan on making more videos of you and your friends camping out in the Hut. My buddies and I will start camping out this winter and I always come to your channel for ideas and inspiration. Thanks.
Very well done, great trailer. I have to agree with Jerry Bates Amazing. I do have one question, what or how do you heat PVC to mold it into what you want? What tool is hot enough to bend and mold it? Thanks for the video....

Carl Gitchel if you only want something for your dog just buy it from walmart $70-90

Dude, I like CZcams because I get to choose my teachers. Great build, you are my teacher for this project. Madd gratitude.

Thank you man I appreciate it.
sorry, I had to laugh :-(

For someone who built the trailer with low tech tools and materials its bloody ingenious.
Thank you for fully explaining how you built your trailer it has been very helpful to me.
You say "just" a lot in your video, but there is no "just" about it! Well Done! Your creative process was a pleasure to behold! Thanks for putting great detail in the video ....usually people give very brief descriptions of what they did but u did a great job overall!!!
Did an excellent job in utilizing materials at hand and in explaining the process.
That hitch is ingenious and those fenders make the build; good ole one part doin' many things design. Great work man.
Thanks for showing us this....Love the way you created a hitch ball....I've been thinking that just such a system could turn any hand truck into a bike trailer...and your device is just the thing.
Kid you will be the next Bill Gates someday. Well thought out and explained in great detail. American ingenuity at it's finest.
Your hitch system is simple genius.
Nice trailer. The hitch looks like a good design. Would like to see more of it getting towed
good job....i thought of building one myself but due to lack of tools, i just waited patiently until i found a good $20 child trailer from craigslist...removed the nylon parts and put a heavy duty plastic tray on top

Good use of pvc, good thought process. You should be a dentist or surgeon or both. Love to see you build a house, you got great ideas!
You did a real nice job. Thank You
Ò+
Looks like a nice sturdy trailer but a bit heavy to pull along. There are maybe ways of making it a bit lighter like plastic mudguards even plastic side panels.
Great job man. Very innovative. You taught me a great trick with all your molded PVC.
please could you pass me the trailer measures of this video? I am Brazilian and I could not understand the information given in the video. Thank you.
Great little Trailer. I'm impressed.
I love the video ! my grand pa use to build all kind of stuff, I miss him !
John Roberts- you can use a heat gun to heat up the pvc until it flexes and then mold it to what ever you want.
great video love the home made money saving stuff, I think your hitch design is brilliant thanks
I built a trailer that is 5.5 feet wide and 8 feet long. its a flatbed. I mainly haul bikes on it. surprisingly its not hard to pull at all... I already had it in a Christmas parade too.
Excellent build young man . Very very creative sir !!

Like most of my projects, I build the whole thing in my head and kind of think of the rest as I go! Thanks for watching.
very cool i like that its all done for little money and reused parts
Great home-build with on-the-fly engineering. Great, creative use of PVC. How did you heat the PVC?
Excellent Video!!! It's obvious that a lot of research went into your design. Keep up to fine work.

💤Great trailer, Boss☺️ Greetings from Poland 🇵🇱👍
Great hitch design!
Thanks man, I appreciate it. Thanks for watching.
That means a lot man I appreciate it. Thanks for watching.
u should b gettin old enough for a truck.. then you have to build a bigger one..lol.. u the man kenny!
Thank you man, I'm glad you liked it. Have a good one.
You are a talented young man, I'm impressed with your ingenuity.

Paul Elkins omgness I watch your videos! I'm sad that you destroyed the homeless cart you made out of wood last year😟
xander beard I leave all my shelters out in the open to see how long they last. Needless to say the pushcart should have had a better roof.

A great alternative to all these metal models! :)
That sounds cool man. Hopefully you can try something like this. Thanks for watching.
Well done matey, good job
Excellent. Seems bombproof
Thanks for giving me the idea of the fender thing on the side
Thank you, glad you liked it.
thank you i learned a lot about diy bike trailers from this video

very well done! I wish I wouldn't have two left thumbs ;-)
Great looking trailer
Another great video Kenny. Keep up the good work.
Nice video ... thanks from India
Ok that's awsome nice work been driving me nuts on way to get one to work on my bike
Cheers man, just brilliant,
Great build, keep building,, everything
beautifully designed. overbuilt is good. (one note: loose the word "basically" and "just" from your vocabulary)
You are very resourceful... nice job.
"Structural Fender", haha. Funny, but it makes sense. Good Job.
You young lad are gifted....love you videos.
absolutely incredable!!!! i would have never thought of that! great mind!!!! u have deffinately gave me ideas on how to build a trailer!!!!
You should have some kind of breakaway arrangement incase bike and trailer seperate.
Yeah, this is only temporary until I get a truck in a couple months. Thanks for watching.
Good work kiddo.
Спасибо за видео .👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
I love the hitch.

Golf ball pin... ingenious
awesome job dude
very nice ;)
...sooo glad i watched til the end to get the idea of the front stand leg :)
Great Video! Nice use of what you have and explained about as good as possible. Thanks!
Cool setup, good job with the hitch...
Thanks buddy. Have a good one.
Terrific project! Thanks for sharing it.
please could you pass me the trailer measures of this video? I am Brazilian and I could not understand the information given in the video. Thank you.
Hey can I make me one

dammit kenny that's really genius great job buddy
nice trailer I like it im going to try it
Great video and articulation. I will use this information for some of the projects that I have in mind :-)
Thank you buddy, have a good one.

John Roberts a heat gun
Realy nice video , give me some ideas for a trailer for my Ebike ,thanks , very well made trailer
very cool I'm going to build that myself
Thank you for watching buddy I appreciate it. Have a good one.
