I finally bought them. And man, they are amazing! I'm glad that I saw your video on them)
Just got them love them so much yaay
Absolutely love cap-toes! They looks so old-school and grungie. Especially with Bex soles. Hope they make (if not already) 1460 MiE Bex and captoe in this leather, I think it would look amazing
ME TOO!!! Y2k is the vintage cuttoff.
Perfect 1461 in my opinion. Love the commando sole because it’ll last longer
do the made in england styles run similar in size to the 1461 smooth leather oxfords? i have my eye on the red bex toes but can’t decide if i should size down or up since i’m a half size, with the smooth leather i went down and there’s still plenty of room for a comfy fit. thanks!!
Great question! Surprisingly these ran small for me. If you mean a standard 1461 smooth then yes and no. Sizing up may be too big. If the standards fit you proper the LAST on these may not work. You want em to be snug, but not cramped.
Hi, I am deciding between these and 1461 Cavalier Leather Made in England in your previous video
I am attracted by the leather used and the extra detail above the welt on the Cavalier 1461 but it is a bit expensive than the 1461 Bex Cap Toe, so it is worth paying more to get the Cavalier 1461 than the 1461 Bex Cap Toe? What is your recommendation?
Great question! I’d say it’s a question of that welt detail versus the bex sole.
The Cavalier Leather is amazing as an upper, but the bex just makes me glide.
This is the first time that the MIE vintage collection has done bex so that’s attractive.
But I haven’t seen that extra welt detail in decades!
Perfect for me would be Oxblood Cavalier ;)
Buuuut I love a toe cap
Tough call, but this is what I would use to weigh em against each other. I bought both as you’ve seen.
@@KaLMichaeL Thanks for the response and suggestion, I have brought both of them and I am happy that I did as both of them are just amazing.
If it helps my family has worked in the vintage clothing business since 1923. As far as what constitutes as “vintage” it means an article of clothing has to be 20 years old or older. Whether the article has been worn or not is irrelevant. When it hasn’t been worn it is called “vintage deadstock”. As you can imagine vintage clothing has become harder to find considering that 20 years ago is when most clothing production was outsourced in other countries and since the quality of materials and how these items were made with wear they deteriorated and never made it to modern times 😳. This all said my MIE 101s from 1990 are still going strong. This style you are reviewing is the very first style that DM has recently come out with that I am drooling over! I want to invest in a pair the next couple weeks (boot version). Fingers crossed the construction and durability is in par with my 30 year old pair. I would love an update on how these are holding up for you! ❤
That's what I lean toward as well regarding 20+ Years. As for how they are holding up... Like new, mainly because I alternate the hundreds I own so unless I travel with em they all stay close to NEW CONDITION ;)
Hello! Does the 1461 MIE fit quite similar to the 1461 smooth leather Oxfard one?
Great question! It depends which MiE. These in the video... yes. The vintage collection, yes.
I'm getting these in black color next week. One of the most amazing looking shoes I've ever seen. Now hoping for the right fit. Ordered these a size up from some other Docs models. UK 9 like I have on sneakers etc. Wish they offered better return policy in Finland or option to exchange. :D
Your videos are very informative and I've been enjoying them. Keep doing your thang, I subbed and hope lots of people find this channel.
Much appreciated 😃 Enjoy em! Yeah - Good move to size up on these. Unlike vintage cap toe they run narrow.
Found your video while looking up info on Quilon leather ... I bought the exact same 1461 Bex Toe Cap Oxblood Quilon UK8 shoes early in '22 when they screamed at me (from docs website). So far I have only worn at home on occasion for an hour or so each time ... at times they feel uncomfortably snug. Will they ever stretch and soften up
My favorite is the 1461 Black Horween Cavalier (60th anniversary edition) which I bought as well.
I'm hoping to pick up one more 1461, in the Natural color Horween leather.
Excuse the delay: No they will not stretch and unfortunately I experienced the same. I just ordered a UK 9 - there is another on eBay now if you act fast! Oh yeah - that Cavalier Leather is amazing!
Love Bex sole too. Is that possible Dr. Martens produce this MIE Bex Cap toe in Crazy Horse leather ? It would be amazing and so vintage !
That would be amazing! Well - they just released a cap toe MIE in Black and White. Plus a Chelsea on the way so maybe - hopefully🙏🏻
Thank you for that clip. They are real nice and i also love cap toes. I think the leather that was on docs back in the 70s, 80s, was a thick strong full grain leather, that was sourced from in the UK, but now a days, comes from Europe, well at least the MIE docs do. What do you think of the 70s 80s leather on docs, for instance, on the 1460s ? They had this thick leather till the 90s then moved on to smooth softer leather. Which is the main leather used in the made in Asia line at the moment.
In many cases I prefer the leather now - mostly due to the collaborations with finer tanneries . I did find out that all DOCs are full grain leather. The older leather was great too. The leather on a pair of 1460 DOCs from 30 years ago is nearly indistinguishable to some modern styles I own.
@@KaLMichaeL Agree, side by side, its hard to tell them apart, between vintage and modern docs, unless you look closer. It is great that they have kept that look right from when they first came out in 1960. 🙂😎
@@martinsmith1525 All changes for the best of the market and demand. Thankfully to or else they would have gone under during Y2K.
Vintage is anything 20 years or older from today
There is no technical definition, but I would say anything before the business shift with Dr. Martens. Which so happens to be about 20 years ago ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Watching this video, whilst debating weather to buy a pair or not (literally, I’m at the PayPal page, ready to hit “purchase”)… fakk it! Bought ‘em; Just now. Woof. Yum.
….and I had to return them. Too tight for these E wide feet. I’m on a 3 out of 5 with Docs: 3 out of 5 that I buy, I end up sending back. One thing that helps: if their page says “fits big, order 1 size smaller” or “fits small, order 1 size bigger” - it almost always fits my 9E feet. I would pay 3x their list price if they JUST made E wide sizes…
What is a bex sole
Hopefully this will help: Platform height: 1 in; Heel height: 1 ⅜ in www.drmartens.com/us/en/p/26787600
I agree with you about leather. I’m trying to go as far vegan as I can, but I think that making leather boots is much better, then throwing leather it into landfill. And as far as we still have a meat industry it’s really interesting question, what is better for nature: using a byproduct of this industry to produce lonlasting and biodegradable products, or to produce even more plastic boots, which usually ages faster and end their life in landfills. I wish someone would do a research on that.
Have you looked into Pineapple Leather? I would love a pair of DOCs in that!
@@KaLMichaeL Meant to be durable as well. However, it still has some plastic in it. But more durable than vegan leather. 🙂
@@KaLMichaeL Wow! Never heard about that. I think we have literally zero products with this material available here in Russia) I'll google it
I love Dr. Martens so much and being able to share via this series is an honor. Your thumbs up, comments and subscriptions goes a long way! Thanks so much for the support always!
