Found a pair of Celestion 11 on the trash the other day! Woofers are completely fine, twetters were both dented, left one badly so, completely pushed in. They made sound, but not a pleasant one. I've been able to push them out and get them fairly smooth by pushing with the end of a small rounded metal rod against a spoon. Not perfect, but sounds much, much better. The right tweeter wasnt as badly pusehd in, but it has a small tear. I think i'll replace them both with ebay diaphgrams, doesn't look too difficult. BTW, what an excellent pair of speakers, I'm testing them with a Yamaha CX-1/MX-1 combo, and they sound really well, maybe lacking a bit of bass, but I'm used to my Infinity Kappa 8.2i, with 12" woofers.
Thanks for the tip. Easy fix. I bought mine with a dented tweeter and the twat that sold them had took it out to see if he could repair it and screwed it back in upside down.
I have a pair of DL12, as many have said, the metal dome tweeter can run a little harsh and bright, can it be replaced with a silk dome without need to adjust the crossover? Or would it be best to replace the HF units altogether? Cheers
I have a pair SL700. one tweeter has a dented voice coil . The other has a dented dome. what are my options in restoring or replacing the tweeters. can the tweeters from the SL6SI be substituted.

Super instructional - well done! I have a Celestion 3 tweeter for repair - I think misaligned coil with low output but correct DCR. I solved this problem with a different tweeter by minute adjustments to the placement of the backer card/coil/dome. But, with this particular Celestion 3 tweeter, despite taking the screws out and easing off the adhesive, the coil won't fully let go of the magnet. It feels as it it's glued in place. Pulling the card harder visibly pulls the coil/dome inwards. Any advice? Rip it out and if it wrecks it buy another, I suspect!
@@dittonworks Thanks, but I got brave and solved the problem. The pole had shifted, jamming the coil on one side very tight. That explains the low output - the coil was flapping rather than being a piston. It was jammed so tight that it got destroyed in removal, but it wasn't any good the way it was. I was able to tap the pole into place, so now I need a replacement dome/coil/card assembly. I'm determined to repair them because they're worth it!
Is it possible to repair tweeters that are not dented but no longer play? I have a set of JBL N26 speakers with one non-functional tweeter. Is there a typical contact point or something that fails?
Hi there. I have a chance to take a good pair of speakers, but with the aluminium dome tweeters pretty pushed in. So you think if I will fix that in the original position, it will still affect the sound? In other words, any tweeter pushed in, can.t be full repaired to sound like new?
@@dittonworks Audio Physic Virgo. A well regarded pair of speakers at a good price, so i.m tented to buy them, despite of the dented tweeters. I.m thinking of making the same as you did with yours, take them out and pull the voice coil carefully. But my question is if this will affect the sound, they are dented pretty much. Another question I have , do you think the aluminium voice coil can be replaced with aluminium voice coil from another speakers, another brand, if the size is the same? I don.t think I will find the same tweeters to replace, so replacing only the voice coil will be less difficult to find.
@@narcistimofte6448 you can’t really just put new diaphragm from another design into yours. If the dome isn’t too bad the sound won’t be badly effected. Obviously having a smooth uncreased dome will give the best dispersion etc.. good luck 😉

That would be a downgrade.
I’d recap the crossovers and possibly try a different amp?
How People manage to dent those domes while they are behind bars beats me.

Most likely the lead wore to the coil has snapped.
