  • It's Friday 9th April, Good Friday 1993, and the United Kingdom helped Sonia in choosing a song to sing at that year's Eurovision Song Contest, held the following month in Millstreet, County Cork, Ireland. (The song chosen was “Better The Devil You Know” which, eventually, came second in Eurovision itself. Ireland's Niamh Kavanagh won the song contest with “In Yours Eyes”, making it the second of a three contest winning streak for the host country.)
    Earlier in the day, over at LWT's Kent House base in the London Borough of Lambeth, ITV's new Breakfast service GMTV was in it's 99th day of broadcasting, having taking over from TV-am on January 1st that year. And being the Easter Bank Holiday weekend, it had a some special treats for the kids. (one of those kids was a certain 8-year old from Breightmet, Bolton, who was recording them on video at the time!) Among them was a Winnie the Pooh triple bill. (Back then, Disney owned a portion of GMTV.) The stack consisted of 'Winnie the Pooh and Tigger Too' (1974), 'Winnie the Pooh and the Honey Tree' (1966) and 'Winnie the Pooh and the Blustery Day' (1968).
    While all this was recording, little that I realise that at least two other people were recording the same programme that I was. One of those recording were recorded from the Scottish region, and was recently uploaded on CZcams by Joachim A/V. (you can see it here: • Video ). Due to the locality of the recording, one of the commercials below was replaced by a different commercial. Watch this, then the other (or vice versa if you want to) to find out what it was!
    One piece of warning - there will be tape problems towards the end of one of the break. Let's face it, it WAS 27 years ago, you know!
    Commerical Break 1:
    * ICI Dulux Natural Hints Paints
    * Rowntree Mackintosh's Quality Street chocolate assortments
    * Vax Vacuum Cleaners (voiceover from the late Anton Rodgers)
    * McCain Micro Chips
    * Lilt pineapple and grapefruit soft drink
    * Felix cat food
    * Penguin chocolate biscuits (featuring Peter Blake as one of the penguins, but Timmy Mallet didn't really appeared on this one!)
    * Cow & Gate Olvarit baby food (Was that Danny Baker doing the 'voice' of the baby?)
    * Ariel Ultra washing powder (voiceover from Ray Brooks)
    * Nestlé Shreddies breakfast cereal (voiceover from Chris Evans)
    * Kwik Save supermarkets
    * Napolina italian food range
    * Munch Bunch Pot Shots yogurts
    Commercial Break 2:
    * Kia-Ora orange cordial drink (The iconic 'I'll be your dog' one.)
    * Farthing Wood Friends magazine (based on 'The Animals of Farthing Wood' animated TV series)
    * Bird's Eye Healthy Options range (with the late Clement Freud)
    * Black & Decker Dustbuster portable vacuum cleaner (featuring Michael Fenton Stevens - 'Uncle' Mike Stand from Radio Active/KYTV)
    * Paxo sage and onion stuffing (with a seducing Linda Lucardi - who just overcame the dreaded coronavirus - and voiceover from Stephen Fry. Interesting fact: Linda Lucardi was an original member of GMTV's presenting team, doing the Keep Fit section. She was replaced later in the year by one Mr. Motivator!)
    * Ideal Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles Mutations action figures
    * Chambourcy Hippotots yogurts (voiceover from Enn Reitel)
    * Ideal Baby Boglins toys
    * Napolina (same advert as in the last break)
    * Kellogg's Pop Tarts (“So hot they're...” burn your mouth!)
    * Kia-Ora (shorten version with a mention of a special offer for when you buy 3 bottles.)
    * Trailer for Easter Saturday on GMTV (I believe that the voiceover came from from A.J. Williams)

    After seeing the Scottish region version, It's interesting to see that not all the ads were the same throughout the country. Very interesting indeed. Thanks for uploading this, I do vaguely recall this broadcast on GMTV back in the day. :) Just so you know, the Granada video link has been set to private and cannot be seen by normal means.

    I had those Winnie the pooh shorts on video recorded when I was a kid! Thanks a lot!

    OMG I cannot thank you enough for this!
    I have been wanting to see the advert breaks for this date of broadcast for years, as I had this film on a video taped from the Carlton London region (I have a older sister who it was intended for) and the tape went missing almost 20 years ago.
    It still hasn't been found but I could remember some of the adverts that were included on the tape, but some I had forgotten about as I haven't seen them since all the years that have past.
    Now for the region I remember them from to be unearthed and put onto the YT domain!
