  • June 3rd 2021, DAE Lecture Series welcomed Françoise VERGÈS for 'Imagining Futures from Entangled Temporalities and the Need for Interconnectedness and Relationality'.
In the Global South, entangled temporalities - pastness, presents (plural) and futures (already lived in past and being lived in the present) question a temporality tied to the belief that things will necessarily get better. They must get better! The future of humanity is at stake! But what is this « better » time made of if not of the dystopia the Global South has been experiencing for centuries and which is progressively affecting the planet? How do entangled temporalities offer another a way out of this eternal pastness? Starting from the fragility at birth of the human being and its need for interconnectedness, for affective touch and smell, to survive, Françoise Vergès will suggest to look at futurity from the position of a child. Not to celebrate some kind of child innocence, but to remind ourselves that we often seem to take the world at the level of full adulthood.
