Yes I found that too , it would be better to have a species specific list . If you join a Facebook group on tortoises they usually provide lists or will help You with what’s safe x
@@woodlandbabies I was looking at turtle table and at my store and it was hard to find things on the list that I can feed my tortoise regularly. Most the things I found like greens, kale, lettuce, etc are things to be fed in moderation. Could you help me with some names of produce that tortoises can eat regularly? Thank you ^_^
@@ReaperessRogue yes all things in moderation really means no more than twice a week , so you can rotate things like kale , lambs lettuce , cucumber , romaine lettuce , radicchio . There is an app called .. the tortoise table.. and you can find out all the safe foods and how often to feed them on there. Also they love certain flowers and dandelions x
They need lots of variety , if you download the tortoise table app you will find a list of the safe herbs /vegetables for your specific breed of tortoise . If it’s a horsfield then lambs lettuce , radicchio , cucumber and romaine in small quantities along with some flowers ( find out which are safe from the app ) are amongst the things that they like x
Kale is also good but just a couple of times per week , they also like cress . They should eat about their shell size per day . Pellets are good as they provide some minerals that they need x

Catherine Malloy We certainly care about animal welfare. I even took a animal welfare course! As you can see from the video we give ours a wide variety of choice. Kale is a small part of the diet and as stated above, it’s perfectly fine in moderation. We also keep cuttlebones and calcium blocks in their tables if needed (although they rarely touch them) We also give additional calcium to our older female during the summer months incase she lays eggs - as this can deplete calcium levels.

Are the cuddle bones for parakeets the same as those bones for tortoises? My mom has birds and they use those for their beaks similar to a tortoise.

Spinach and kale are bad for tortoise, it depletes calcium from their bones
Kale is fine for tortoises in moderation .. we feed no more than twice a week
