Is there an explanation as to why the "USB power" nonetheless drains the battery?
I can't figure it out for the life of me. Why USB isn't enough to power it, I'll never know. I wish you could forgo the battery and JUST power by USB, but you cant.
@@randyrektor What about this theory: The ZV-1 requires 1500 ma. A macbook pro only provides 500 ma (type A USB), so the batt has to supply the rest and eventually drains down. I'm going to find a USB power supply that provides 1500 ma and see if that makes a diff.
Yea thatâs likely the cause. Iâve tried a dozen or so 5V wall power plugs, USB ports, external power supplies and no luck, though someone commented saying their external power brick works!
I think that's the reason also, but none of my computers output that much current except via type C USB. My Macbook pros only provide 500 ma on a type A USB.
@@randyrektor The spec for Type A USB IIRC is about 900 ma for 2.0/3.0 and doesn't hit 1500ma until 3.2. However, the ports designed for charging do much better. I have an OttLight charger that says it does 2100 ma. I will try it and see...
Love your style - very helpful, no BS, smooth edit, lovely sound. Great work all round.
Thanks so much for the kind words! I really appreciate it :)
Dude, this was really insightful, concise, great looking content and I'm baffled why you don't have more subs already. Keep doing what you're doing.
Ahhh man, thanks so much for the kind words! I really appreciate it. Glad the video was helpful!
AMAZING work! After so many tutorials on how to connect the camera, so many software uploads and buying worthless cables... Your tutorial did the job in 5 min. From a tech noob - THANK YOU!
You're very welcome! Thanks for the comment đđ»đđ»
This video was just what I needed to set up a webcam with my ZV-1. Thank you sir . . .
My pleasure!
Thanks for this! You're video really helped me alot because you actually went step by step and explained everything in detail.
Amazing! Iâm so happy it was useful :) thanks for the comment đđ
I'm only half way though your video and already learned more than from 10 previous I watched on other channels. Thank you Randy! đ
That is the kindest thing ever. Thanks for sharing đđ»đđ»đđ»
quick and to the point thanks, bought the camera in march and just hadnt messed with it till now lol
Thanks for the comment! Hope youâre loving your camera :)
Please do not delete this video ! You were extremely helpful and straight to the point ! Thanks for the advice
Thanks for the kind words! Happy to help my friend.
This is the comment I was talking about :) also, hi đ
Really amazed by how concise and accurate this video is... Thanks, helped a lot! Question about the USB power - how about disabling the auto power-off upon screen closing and keep the screen closed while in streaming mode? That's a compromise on being able to see the output easily and you'd have to open the screen every time changing a setting but maybe then the charging will be enough to keep it running. Haven't tried yet though :)
Thanks so much for the kind words. Thatâs actually really interesting so that should give you a ton less power draw, which could be enough to keep the battery replenishing. Iâll have to test this out!!
So glad I found your channel! Lots of great content and well reviewed. Glad to see you doing well! Subbed đđŸđđŸ
Thanks so much for the kind words! :) I really appreciate the comment
Amazing Video, covered everything I needed to know to save myself from frustration when buying this camera. Thank you!
Great to hear! Thanks for the comment :)
Thanks for the video man!!! Was massively helpful!
So happy to help! đđ»đđ»
This is really helpful! You should have your own show!
You are amazing and kind.
Thank you so much, I tried to follow a different tutorial but it did not work but once I tried your tutorial with the right data usb cable, it worked perfectly!
Amazing! Happy to hear that it worked out for you! I always worry that Iâve missed something :p
Thanks for this! Just got this camera but my set up is a little hodge-podge right now-- I'm using a 25ft HDMI to hook up my camera to my computer while shooting in my studio set up on the other side of the room. Right now, the power bank works great for me as I'm not going to be going over an hour or so and I don't have to worry about connecting to an outlet or across the room back into my computer. Also, taking the memory card out while streaming helps it keep from overheating too!
I was wondering about taking out the memory card! I never have one in and I've never experienced overheating since using this new method. Sounds like you've got quite the setup going on!!
@@randyrektor Lol I'm a desktop computer kinda girl, so I can't exactly bring my computer closer to have it right next to me when I stream. Luckily my office isn't that wide so it works out, and I plan on having the YT chat open on my phone!
thanks so much for all the great info, followed your links to get the plate and battery!!
Amazing! Thank you so much for the support. I hope you enjoy :)
Omg, thanks so much for making this. Had no clue you could enable power through USB simultaneously while streaming mine kept dying on me!
Happy to help! It seems like that should default to âonâ when you enable Streaming Mode. Maybe something they address with firmware!
Super helpful, thanks for the links! You've saved me so much time and hassle. đ
Happy to help!! :)
Power: Just plug your Sony ZV-1 into a powered usb hub (like i.e. Anker). They provide as much as 15W per port, you donât need a dummy battery and have extra USB ports. I run the ZV-1 indefinitely like this - runs all day long as I donât bother to turn it off between meetings.
Hai would u explain what is powered usb hub? Coz my camera is overheat just like 15 minutes
Hi Randy, thanks a lot for this video, it answered all the doubts I had about this camera before buying. IÂŽm thinking to record a whole opera for a client and this little camera seems like will come in handy.
Amazing! Thanks for the comment and best of luck with the shoot :)
o7 thanks man!! you just solved all my problems with this camera. smh i was scouring the internet and you just explained everything that was needed, including the product recs. tyty
Ahhhh amazing! Im so glad this was useful for you! Thanks for the kind words!

Thanks for watching :)
Great video I'm considering buying the ZV 1. Just getting the how to's sorted before black Friday.
Yesssss! Great deals coming :)
Very helpful and efficient. Thank you sir!
Glad it was helpful!
Great video, thank you so much. I want to use to ZV1 for content creation and streaming but battery issue were a concern...well it was until saw this!
Fantastic. Thanks for the comment! Itâs such a great camera. Iâve still been very happy with it

Thank you so much man! Someday đđ»
Fantastic tutorial and info. Thank you
You're very welcome!
Boom , thanks good stuff need this for my camera. Works well!
Yes it does! All the best :)
This may be a silly question. Can you use the USB power bank and record at the same time? Just bought the ZV1 (hasn't been delivered yet!) Not using it for streaming, just regular filming but 3 hours would be plenty! Thanks!
It works perfectly, Thanks so much!
Amazing! So happy to hear that
thank you Randy for providing so professional video and amazed the viewers are also professional as well and they do provide the solution of the USB power mystery.thank you so much all
I really appreciate the kind words, Paul. We've been building such an awesome community here! It makes it so much fun :)
Hi Randy, thanks for this video. You are really clear and concise. I'm ordering the base plate and dummy battery now. I'm not a gamer but do a lot of web stream and video blogging. I'm really pretty clueless about even basic photography terms - uh, shat the heck is f-stop? I'm only using the camera in basic "intelligent" mode. I'm subscribed to see if you ever do some basic photography tutorial vids. Certainly thanks for this one!
Hey Marjory, thanks so much for the kind words! I really appreciate it :) best of luck with the baseplate and dummy battery. Iâd recommend checking out Sidney Diongzonâs channel. He just posted an updated ZV1 video this week I believe :)
Thanks for the video! I need to use mine for a zoom interview.
Glad it was helpful!
This video is very helpful! I was worried that I'm doing something wrong when my camera switched off on my first stream. What a relief! Thank you! đđđđ€
Thanks for the kind words! So annoying eh? I was so confused.. like when itâs receiving power, it shouldnât die, right? Lol

Great video! Thank you!
Thanks for watching :)
Thank you Randy! In the video you mentioned you had used the dummy battery for 3 weeks , since this video is 8 months old now I was wondering if you had any updates on your experience with the dummy battery, thanks :)
Works like a charm! I use it a few times a week and havenât encountered a single problem! :)
Idk why but anytime I have tried using this camera as a webcam, it looks laggy. Not sure if itâs my camera settings?
Oh weird! I have't noticed it being laggy at all. What are you using on your stream? Looks great!

You are so welcome! Thanks for the comment :)
Thank you for this video đ
Youâre so welcome!
hello! Very good video!
I recently bought the camera, I use a video capture (cam link) for the image and I have it connected to a USB charger of up to 5V, is there any danger for the camera about this? I charge it through its USB port on the side.
From my understanding, as long as youâve properly matched the cameras draw, there is no risk. That said, Sony specifically says not to use third party power options because they want to cover their butts. Iâve been using a dummy battery for 2 years with no issues!
@@randyrektor Thank you very much for answering!. What do you mean by "matched the cameras draw" (sorry, I'm from Chile and I use google translatorđ€Ł).
It happens that I am not using the dummy battery, I only charge it through the USB port to a cell phone charger of only 5v. Would it be okay like that?
@@randyrektor Yesterday I only did a test, I spent an hour with the USB charging option without any problem, in fact, I was recording and everything is perfect. I just want to know if this thing could explode or not đ€Ł
I believe the manual says 5v is what the camera requires, so I think you should be good!
Thanks!
Holy smokes, thanks so much for the Super Thanks! That's so unnecessary and so appreciated. I'm treating myself to a fancy coffee today
Yaaaasss đđđ
How do you set the camera to 720p? I have issues where my camera overheats and it lags the video.
getting this camera in two weeks i will return with my opinion on it !
I ordered both the base plate and battery power option in your description. They still working out for you? I too wish that we didn't have to reset each each time and could just turn the camera on. Would be so much easier and faster.
Thanks for the video.
Hey there, thanks for watching! Yep, I still use the baseplate and battery everyday. Itâs never powered off mid steam. Yea itâs strange, sometimes it remembers what menu it was on last so you only have to click âusb steamingâ. Other times itâs in a whole other spot in the menu. You get pretty good at navigating the menu backwards with the screen flipped out :p
Can u do 1440p 60 fps? Sorry if itâs a stupid question
Hey Randy! I have both the A6400 and the ZV1 and it's starting to overheat while live streaming... temp is on high, etc, settings good... any insights? Thanks!.
Ooo interesting. I haven't run into that issue, and mine sits right above the exhaust on my PC. I've heard of cameras overheating when the flip-screen is closed. Is yours closed by any chance? Other than that, I'm really not sure what might cause that.
@@randyrektor appreciate you! I need to try that.. Just started overheating today...
Great video as usual~! Wondering if you have any recommendation for 2.1 speakers for computer?
Thanks Barry. You know what's crazy, I've never used computer speakers in the home office. It's been something on my list to get, but I find they always look so clunky. I've used the Yamaha HS8Ms at my studio for a number of years, but they are massive. Let me know what you settle on!!
â@@randyrektor Thanks, I'll check that out! I'm on the same boat here. Didn't wanna get a big speaker, but I know the quality will suffer if I get a small one.I will definely let you know what I end up getting!
Hey Randy, after a week of research, I finally settled with the Edifier s350db. Even though you and my friends have recommended the Yamaha Hs Series(Both the HS8M and HS5 came up a lot), It's a bit too big for my setup. I also have a dual screens setup plus a scanner on my table. So that left me with 4 options: Harman Kardon SoundSticks 3, AUDIOENGINE a2+, Edifier s350db, and Bose Companion 50. You can find the first two recommended by countless websites, but they are kind of on the lower end, and I didn't trust the quality. So it all came down to Edifier or Bose. I was going to get Bose, but both the online community and my sound mixer friends praise the hell out of the Edifier. (people did compare these two specific models) So I was like, why not? If it's not good, I can always return it. And it performs surprisingly well. I have heard of the Bose speaker in person, and I'm not saying the Edifier is perfect. However, it sounds way better than Bose. The only downside is the subwoofer is a bit too big. P.s. my absolute favourite brand is B&O, but they are too expensive, and they don't make small speakers for a desktop setup. Hope this helps! And I wonder if you adjust the EQ for your speakers or not? People either leave it untouched or adjust the bass treble ratio to 4:5. I usually just add a little bass, like around +2. Would love to know your opinion on it! đ
Dudddddde! Thanks for reporting back! Also thereâs so much great info to unpack here. Iâve never actually heard of Edifier, but they look like theyâre in the home theatre space -which means they are probably 10000x better than desktop computer speakers (in my opinion). Thatâs actually a really cool option! As for EQing the speakers, Iâve always been under the mindset of leaving them flat. The reason being is every space is going to sound so different anyways that Iâd prefer to make them sound as good as possible on a flat system than on a system thatâs been tuned. Itâs the same reason music producers use YamahaNS10s.. they are actually famous for being a good mediocre sound system. If you can make the mix work on them, it will sound even better in a car or headset. Thatâs kind of why Iâve always left my systems flat. Iâm curious to know how the. Perform in your room! Did you end up getting the sub with them?
@@randyrektor Thanks for the info! That's great to know! I did get the sub with them. And after I use it for a bit more. I'll have to say I'm a bit disappointed about the bass performance. Especially since the size of the subwoofer is like 10"x11"x12". But!! I also think it's a bit unfair since I'm comparing it to the performance of the higher-end speakers. I'll say the overall performance is pretty good for what it is. It's still very enjoyable to listen to great artists like Bailey Pelkman.đ It's worth mentioning that it has 5 different inputs, and you can control it remotely, but since the subwoofer is so clunky. I'll say if you are going to get something at that price range and only use it for the computer, the Bose Companion 50 is still a pretty strong contender, if not, a better option.
Hey @randyrektor is the dummy battery in the description is also supporting the zv-e10?
Not sure! I have no experience with that so I donât want to lead you astray.
i need some help , webcam test with elgato its still 720p at 60 fps or 1080p 60 fps ? i need 1080p 60 fps, and in future i need 4k 60 fps dslr webcam maybe full frame . thx in advance for help
I got here from your Amazon Vid. I am getting the Sony to primarily record both CZcams Vids and Live Streaming. Have you tried the Sony Vlogger Shotgun mike ECM-G1?
Oh very cool that you came from the Amazon vid! That's neat to hear. I have not tried it, but Im going to check it out now :)
Have you made your setup video yet or did I miss it? I was looking forward to seeing your setup, specifically for gaming, as I am also using Mac & OBS

Ive the Zv1, but in the stream the cam has problems with focus and trigger sometimes. How can i fix it or....how can i stream with background blur?! TY guys
Great video Randy:
One question I hope you can answer for us. When using the ZV-1 as a web cam, how do I turn off mirroring on my Sony ZV-1 that I see on the LCD display?
Interesting question, Iâm not sure! I googled it and it says you can turn off mirroring but Iâm not sure how
@@randyrektor yeah itâs same problem weâre facing. It happened last week and canât figure what had happened. When we use a livestream software itâs fine but when we look up the lcd display itâs mirrored which kinda throws the TA off
Hi. I'm in Europe. Do you know if the 5 volt rule still applies? I've tried googling it, but I really don't know what I'm looking for. (shrug emoji) Thanks. Awesome video. Really helped me!
Thanks for the kind worlds! Honestly, Iâm not sure! Iâm such a noob with power. Iâm sure it would be the same, but I really donât want you to take my word for it! Hopefully someone smarter sees this and replies!
Which usb cord are you using I am struggling to find one
Hello I am down to do this, but do you or anyone knows if I can stream with this camera with 1080p 60? Plz help
Thanks for the video. I have a question about the dummy battery. Once the dummy battery is connected is it supposed to show a charge icon or not? I'm using my dummy battery and I'm confused.
Yea if youâre able to power it up, youâre good! I donât think it will show the power icon because it thinks itâs a battery
Hey Randy, great video, i'm planning to buy the zv-1, if i'm using that dummy battery, can i use the camera for livestreaming as much as i want without it overheating or the camera will turn off cuz out of battery?
Iâm not 100% sure about overheating. I use mine in a nice cool basement for hours on end. Maybe it would be a different story in a hot room, but from my experience, totally!!
Thanks for the quick reply brother @randyrektor , so using the dummy battery will basically give me unlimited hrs of streaming without worry about battery life, but u saying about overheating it is a question of the area of the room and additionals coolers or etc..
@@randyrektor
Exactly! Iâve seen a couple comments from people saying they still had overheating. I havenât had that at all. Possibly flipping out the display may help with heat distribution. But yeah, unlimited streaming with the dummy!
Thanks brother, and ,last more question if it is possible, i'm really having a hard time choosing between the Sony zv-1 to the canon m50 mark ii for livestreaming, any difference when it comes to overheating between the two? or the two company's from your exprienece? or quality wise, sorry for the many questions and thank you very much. :)
@@randyrektor
I honestly have no experience with the other. Iâve been generally quite happy. A couple downsides, they havenât updated forward in a while. I think theyâre kinda done servicing it with updates. Also it doesnât recall usb streaming mode so you have to toggle it back on every time you start your day.. kinda annoying. The camera itself is awesome though
Great vid. Why does everyone day you need a streaming card ?
Can I use usb streaming on a Mac ?
This cam only streams up to 720p. If you want fullHD or 4K, you need a capture card.
Oh and seconds question, yup! I do it all the time
This is really helpful, thank you.
Gotchu!! Thanks for watching đđ»đđ»
@@randyrektor thank you for posting. Is this still a good setup for you? Is it better to get a Sony Name Brand cable? Thank you.
@TheJackassOfAllTrades itâs been perfect! A little annoying that you have to toggle on âstreaming modeâ from the menu every time, but itâs a great cam! Not sure about the cable though, sorry!
@@randyrektor do you still use the same cable for streaming long term?
Yup!
Since the video is already a bit older, is there now a patch that the camera remembers the streaming settings? Or do you still need to remove the usb cable and put the camera on streaming mode everytime you start your streaming session? Thanks a lot for this helpful video!
Unfortunately you still do. That said, you can map a custom button to USB Streaming Mode so you donât need to menu dive. Iâd honestly recommend a cheap USB capture card at this point. Unlocks 1080p and you can use in conjunction with the dummy battery and get the best of both worlds (no usb streaming mode required)
@@randyrektor Shouldn't Sony just allow us to control the camera settings from the Imaging Webcam software? Seems like a simple, logical, easy, and convenient solution. Am I missing something (i.e. - does that exist?) or is there a reason they don't have that option? And, ps, seriously phenomenal video--well done!
@@shawnriegsecker8590 yes!! 100% that would be so awesome. Itâs definitely a little frustrating because I imagine that would be super easy to do (says me with zero understanding of coding lol). Thanks for the kind words!
Hey, Amazing content! Do you have a link for your tripod ?
Thanks for the kind words! I just added them to the description :) Hope this helps!
How do you get the display off the screen while streaming? How do you keep the screen on while streaming?
Iâve spent a good 3 days trying to find a video like this! As a gamer myself Iâm wanting to try out twitch Iâm also a web cam girl on the side, I have a half decent webcam no complaints but Iâm no longer camming at the studio and decided to just work from home with studio quality Iâve decided to upgrade to this.
Iâm a complete noob.
How is the camera quality from a distance as bloggers have right up to their faces when streaming, that wouldnât be the case for me I would want full body shots eg- on the sofa, chair or bed, I was thinking of buying the ZV-E10 due to changeable lenses.
I've only ever used it close up, so it's tough to say, but I'm glad this video helped! :)
Thank you very much for the video!
I've seen many videos of this camera heating up and shutting down, even when using it the way you described at the end of your video. That a maximum of 1.5 hours... I don't understand why they are face it all... They say that if you choose the "do not turn off after heating" mode, it extends time by only 30 min ((
Don't you see information that the camera has overheated and is turning off?
The dummy battery and the option to "do not turn off after heating" seems to remedy this. I'm able to stream indefinitely, although my house is quite cool, especially in the summer months with the AC blasting.
@@randyrektor Thanks!
@randy if I am using this for top down shots and use a dummy battery, will the menu setup save or will it go away since i am not using the battery?
You can save all of the settings, but youâll have to turn on âUSB Streaming Modeâ every time. Kinda annoying but you can program it to a custom button so itâs one button + confirm. I do it in darkness all the time with no issues
Got a question about the dummy battery, obviously one end goes into the camera, but can the USB end go into a USB slot on a computer? will that provide the correct voltage and amps?
Yep. I plug mine into the computer. It just has to be 5v maximum. Make sure to check your specs first :)
@@randyrektor - you might wanna be careful there buddy, after doing some digging, the ZV-1 manual states that the camera requires 1.5 Amps or higher, USB 3.1 puts out 0.9 Amps standard.
Even the on the dummy battery page that you linked it states "Do not use the computer USB supply for the camera, because most computer USB 2.0 output voltage is 5V, But the current is less than 500mA (0.5 amps).
Ahhhh good to know! Iâve been using it for a few months now with no issues whatsoever, but this is great insight :) thanks!
@@randyrektor - No problem, I don't want you to wreck your lovely camera đ
Much appreciated :)
why does keeping it plugged in a power bank keep it on for more than having it plugged in a usb charger? shouldn't it be more or less the same thing since it's just charging the internal battery through usb?
I think the difference is when you're sending data via USB, the bandwidth for power is reduced. When using the external powerbank, you'll need to utilize the HDMI output, which seems to allow more power consumption over the USB. I know nothing about power though, so I could be way off.
There are a couple options for powering the ZV-1 without the use of a dummy-battery
- Externally powered usb-hubs, which have the added bonus of more usb-ports and can be used for more than just the camera (and can be cheaper)
- High-End Motherboards, Really any mother board mid-high end should be FAR more than capable of powering the ZV-1 through any of the usb-ports (but always research your boards ports before making a purchase)
Generally I advice against dummy-batteries as they are only useful for the specific camera you buy them for, and they're generally made by companies that you might not want to trust with powering your camera saftley, where as you can buy similar costing usb-hubs made by reputable companies and dummy-batteries may infact void your waranty so atleast if a usb-hub breaks your camera you'll be fine!
Great points! For streaming with a good gaming PC, chances are your motherboard will have the juice to power it.
How long can you continiously stream for with this camera and in what quality?
Indefinitely with the battery fix in the video, and it's 720 by USB or 1080 by HDMI with capture card.
hey mate, do you know what resolution it then streams at? does it do 1080p at 60fps?
Video format: MJPEG
Resolution: HD720 (1280 Ă 720)
Frame rate: 30 fps / 25 fps
Audio format: PCM, 48 kHz, 16 bit, 2 ch
If you want 1080/60 youâll need to use an HDMI camera capture device. There are great options for ~$50 or so
Question, I got a Capture Card and utilized it w/ StreamYards but as happy as I am that the Camera (Sony VZ1), I'm wondering how to remove the menu screen? Is it a mode or setting I need to change? I see that there's a camera, video, and S&Q mode and I'm wondering if that's something to look into? Any recommendations?
Ahhh yes, there should be a display menu over HDMI. This would need to be toggled to have a clean HDMI feed.
@@randyrektor ok, I'll check that out, nonetheless, I find it to be a really great camera for the price point
With the dummy battery, you could then record until whatever side SD care you have gets filled, yes? Could you record and stream at the same time?
Iâd check to see if there is a max file size in the manual. Also I donât know if you can record while in USB streaming mode. The online manual will have some more info on this :)
Thank you for your video, I can't order from amazon where I live, on the ecommerce website here I found the cable with the same name as the one you suggested but it says output voltage is 4.3V instead of 4.2V like your cable, would it be ok?
Input is 5V like your cable
Its description says Input: 5V 2-3A, Output: 4.3V 1.5A
Full product name: USB cable adapter + AC-LS5+DK-X1 DC Coupler NP-BX1 NPBX1 dummy battery for Sony DSC-RX1 DSC RX100 RX1R
The code names in the product name is the same so I'm a little confused why its 4.3V instead of 4.2V, maybe it doesn't matter?
Sorry for the delay! This comment wasn't showing up for some reason. I would hesitate to suggest getting anything other than the one that I got because I don't want to lead you astray! That said, if it's similar specs, it SHOULD work, but I really don't feel comfortable recommending it without testing it myself. I hope you understand. All the best!
@@randyrektor no problem, wish I had access to amazon. Anyways I ordered it, will see if it works or if it will fry my camera lol. Thanks for your help.
Would this be a great camera for vlogs, and I have a baby on the way, and want to take amazing photos, and videos for memories of the new addition to the family, so would this be good for not just a webcam, but photo/videos too? I'm on a budget and am leaning towards this because I stream and do CZcams too.
This is a phenomenal camera for vlogging in my opinion! It has amazing autofocus, a product showcase mode, and it has really nice stabilization. I think itâs one of the better vlogging cameras for its ease of use. Congrats on the new addition! We just had our first 8 weeks ago. Savour every moment cause it flies by!
@@randyrektor Awe, Congratulations!
@@randyrektor so i got this camera and my child lol, but just wondering does the usb power mode need in also for the dummy battery, despite both giving power?
if that makes sense.
Oh interesting, I havenât tested that! I would imagine that it wouldnât need to be on, but who knows!?
can you recomend usb or hdmi chord? I lost my hdmi and I have a hard time looking for the right one.
Honestly, with HDMI, because itâs a digital signal (on or off) the cable quality doesnât matter too much, despite what the packaging says. That said, the ends and connections are where inexpensive cables fail, so Iâd look for one with decent reviews on Amazon and youâll probably be very happy!
What selfie stick do you use to hold the camera?
Also can you make a video on the Sony Remote software?
Itâs actually the Insta360 BulletTime stick. It works really well with the tiny tripod! I can definitely add that to the list!
@@randyrektor Thanks, thinking of making my dream setup and possibly start streaming with a ZV-1, thanks!
You canât go wrong. Itâs been really awesome to use!
HI! I have to record, not stream, with Sony ZV1 on Obs in Fullhd in the best possible quality. I connected the Sony via HDMI to a GeForce 3080(with hdmi in/out),without connecting the USB for recharging, deactivated control via smartphone and activated remote control from PC, but Obs doesn't see it. Do you have any tips? THX!
Interesting! Iâve never tried using an HDMI-in on a graphics card, but that sounds sweet! HDMI is the only way to get 1080 out of the ZV1, I believe. Iâm not sure how remote control works either. Sorry I canât be much help here! Maybe someone else can weigh in
I use ZV1 as my camera for OBS for recording Full-HD.
Any ZV1 problem (heating, stopped immediately, ..) if I use a dummy battery + capture card for recording a long video? (3 hours)
I havenât experienced any overheating as of yet!
Thank you.
Thanks for watching :)
hi I know this is an old video but I'm hoping you might be able to help! My ZV1 when connected to my MacBook *only* charges-- it does not connect to mass storage and doesn't show up as an external device on my laptop (like no" ZV1 -- eject" shows up anywhere to verify it is connected). If you have any tips or suggestions please let me know đđ a few other notes, it is set to "USB mass storage" and it's still on Version 1 because I haven't been able to connect it to a computer and download the updates.
Ahhh yes I think you need to get the Sony zv1 firmware installer. When you connect through the firmware installer, it should see the camera if I remember. I believe you can also perform an update over an SD card. Itâs been a while since I did this though. I hope it helps!
thank a lot
Thanks for watching :)
Can I use this AC ADAPTER? Output is 4.2 V and Input is 100-240V? Pls answer because I donât want to fry my Sony ZV1.
I donât want to comment on any accessories I havenât tried myself, but maybe someone else can weigh in.
If the screen on the ZV1 isn't working properly, is there a way to access the menu options some other way?
Not sure if thereâs a Sony camera app. I know I control my Lumix with my iPad through an app, but it may be hard to sync without menu access.
@@randyrektor Understood, I'll look around and see. Thanks for the quick reply!
Anytime! Good luck
What's the max. resolution you can stream with the ZV1 via USB and via HDMI?
Via USB, it's 720p. I believe it's 4K with HDMI -but don't hold me to it!
Thanks for this! Any reason why you didn't cover the option of plugging the USB cable directly into a wall outlet with something like an Apple brick? Shouldn't this provide enough power i.e. the same as a sufficient power bank? In this case, I guess the reason you might want the dummy battery is so you can use the USB port to stream video, right?
You can definitely do that as long as the brick meets the specs of the camera. The reason I didnât bother with it is because like using a power bank, youâll still need a way to capture that signal. Now youâll be limited to using the HDMI output and youâll need something like a capture card or a cam link. Totally doable, but definitely cost prohibitive for many.
@@randyrektor Thank you! I actually just had my camera connected to an Apple brick on a wall outlet via the USB cable and...it shut off. So what would be different about a power bank? I have an Anker Powerhouse 100 that has 5V USB ports so I can use that, but why would it be different than power from the wall? I'm guessing the Apple brick doesn't deliver enough amps but the power bank does? Going to try the power bank now.
Yea I think youâre spot on! Check out the pinned comment on this video. Someone was kind enough to break this down for my small brain lol!
@@randyrektor My camera has been plugged in to the power bank for a couple hours now and it's still on đ With the Apple phone charger brick it shut off after maybe 30 minutes (with the battery almost drained). So clearly the Apple brick can't deliver enough amps, and I now understand that the typical computer USB port cannot either...gonna look into "USB brick" options that will deliver enough power without having to go through the power bank (I don't stream so I don't need the USB port for video, so if I don't need to do the dummy battery I guess I won't đ). Thanks again!
@@r-omega Amazing! It seems like a lot of people like the Anker ones!
does the usb connected to the pc only offers 720p quality?
Yes 720 via micro usb, 1080 and 4K via HDMI capture card.
My ZV-1 had a short circuit after two years. They said in the service that it was because of the dummy battery. Do you think this is possible? I used accessories as you mentioned.
Oh no! Itâs unlikely but there is a chance the usb plug that was used outputted higher voltage than the camera could handle. Also possible as they arenât Sony accessories. Sorry to hear!
@@randyrektor
Could you possibly tell me how many Amps the ZV-1 consumes?
I canât remember. But I believe the pinned post on this video covers it from someone smarter than me
Hello, you mentioned that using a powerbank was not a really good option but thatâs what Im considering right now. Will powering the camera via powerbank and using camlink not put my camera in danger? Heh :3 I need it for long hours since I stream too.
That option totally works! Especially if you already have a camlink. You just need to make sure the output of the power bank is what the camera requires for power. Check out the pinned comment on this video. Someone explained it much better than I can!
@@randyrektor Thank you so much! :)
So I got the battery adapter and for some reason while using that battery, the video gets choppy and then eventually freezes. Any idea what would cause that?
Interesting. That sounds like a codec issue or a pc rendering issue. Are you on the latest firmware?
When streaming does it do higher than 720? or is it capped. Thankyou.
Iâm almost certain itâs capped :(
Yea it looks like:
The format of the streaming data is as follows.
Video format: MJPEG
Resolution: HD720 (1280 Ă 720)
Frame rate: 30 fps / 25 fps
Audio format: PCM, 48 kHz, 16 bit, 2 ch
When streaming over USB, how do you remove the 'cancel USB streaming' message from the flip out screen? It seems to stay there covering the bottom half of the screen?
Interesting. Mine doesnât do that unless I am pressing other buttons. It also does this before I plug the usb in. Once itâs plugged in it disappears
@@randyrektor that is strange, on mine the message stays and doesn't disappear no matter what I press or do.
I'm wondering what computer are you using to stream on.
I have an Alienware Ryzen R10 5 5600x with a 3070 :) hope this helps!
@@randyrektor it does, I'm looking to buy a new PC for streaming
When you use the dummy battery were that is plug in to ?
Most standard USB ports on your computer will work :)
