C B & Q Railroad Galesburg, IL

These are photos along the route of the Chicago, Burlington & Quincy Railroad(The Burlington Route) taken in the year 1948 by photographer Russell Lee and Esther Bubley. The CB & Q operated between Chicago and the Rocky Mountains.
Today they are part of Burlington Northern Santa Fe (BNSF). Photos found on the Carli Digital Collections

Great pictures. My grandfather worked as a Machinist. Father worked as Electrician for 45 years. Rember going to Roundhouse to see dad. Torn down now.

Many of my relatives attended the Coldbrook Church and on the other side of the family my Grandfather Lee Guenther(engineer) and Uncle Vern German(engineer) and Uncle Troy Roach(conductor) all worked for the CB&Q.

Wonderful pictures! I wasn't born until five years after these were taken, but I grew up in and around Galesburg, including the Coldbrook area, and have wonderful memories of the trains. Galesburg is why I love trains.
