  • One of the vendors that comes through the streets and alleys of Tondo, Manila is the Dirt Ice Cream vendor. He has 2 different flavors every day on a rotation. Today was queso and avocado ice cream. I always do a mix of each flavor. You can get it in a cone, cup, or in an ice cream sandwich (which is just ice cream inside of a hamburger bun). I usually go with the cone.

I wanna take my kids there.
I would think the avocado is good but the cheese one is interesting, I’d try it. 👍

I was wondering the same thing. For the record, I didn't come up with that name. That's just what everyone in the neighborhood was calling it. It didn't seem dirty to me:)

@@ArtVentures you are correct. street vendor ice cream has always been called “dirty” ice cream. Agree, super delicious, avocado and queso happen to be my fave.
My guess, they called it dirty as opposed to the sit down clean parlor of Magnolia brand in New Manila back in the day.

I hope one day my filipino people will stop calling them "dirty ice cream". It doesn't sound appealing and it's really mocking the vendors. Please call them "Sorbetes" instead. Maraming salamat po.

It’s very nostalgic I don’t mind. Peeps nowadays are so f’in sensitive. I grew up there in the 70’s/80’s it was always called dirty ice cream, it was called dirty even before then.

@@jessicaal415 The reason why i prefer calling them sorbetes is cause my neighbor back in the day used to be a sorbetes vendor. He would occasionally mention that his ice creams would sell good but when he passes by the more affluent neighborhood, parents would tell their kids in-front of him not to buy ice creams from them because of how unsanitary they are, even though I’ve seen him made his sorbetes with pride and was in fact very sanitary when he makes them. I know not every vendors are clean but hearing that from him was very disheartening even as a kid.
