    Great vid thank you. Glad to see that use of the autopilot is part of the test. I had to hand fly the whole thing for an FAA IR.

      Yeh you’re allowed to use it in the cruise however on my MEIR Test I was briefed to take it out at top of decent.

      Plane Old Ben well I won’t give up! What do you think the best approach (if you pardon the pun) is? I’m hour building at the moment, about to finish college and get a full time job in a few weeks. Was planning to do IMC then Night?

    Hi Ben great video thanks for sharing. 2 questions how much can you use the autopilot? Noticed you using it the cruise then guess you were manual going into the procedure? Also where did you get the double kneeboard?

  • @m.salmanahmed3582
    @m.salmanahmed3582 Před 2 lety

    Amazing video. Can you please tell me where you got the kneeboard from? I ll be starting my IFR at Da42, and i cant seem to find this kneeboard anywhere in Australia. Thanks

    You flew it on Autopilot? I'm surprised how much easier it is these days. You even have a Navigation Display with your ship.

  • @bhughes1986
    @bhughes1986 Před 5 lety

    Another great vid Ben - have you found the training to be progressive in terms of moving from hour building to CPLMEIR? This is something I want to do in the future and it looks fairly daunting.

    • @PlaneOldBen
      @PlaneOldBen  Před 5 lety +1

      I didn’t really do any hour building as such, I had around 300 hours when I decided to go commercial! I think there’s a lot of prep you can do at home for the MEIR - get the DA42 on X Plane 11, you can link G1000 iPad apps to it and then fly test profiles. The MEP course gives you a good grounding then I had an IR(R) which have an hours reduction and I did a 30 hour CBIR split with 15 in the sim and 15 in the aircraft.

    On the RNAV approach is it not taught to maintain the decision altitude to the Missed Approach Point?

    Can you not use the moving map inset in the PFD to indicate aircraft up and not north up ?

    Great video Ben! I'm currently doing my IR at the moment, was just wondering what plog were you using?

    • @PlaneOldBen
      @PlaneOldBen  Před 5 lety

      It’s one which a friend used for his IR, your flying school will have their own and mine was an adaptation of the Aeros Plog.

  • @Matcham11
    @Matcham11 Před 5 lety

    Good stuff - but i dont understand the ‘Any ice’ check - CAVOK Day, and not near Any clouds, is it necessary? Just curious. Keep up the great work!

    • @PlaneOldBen
      @PlaneOldBen  Před 5 lety

      It’s very necessary! You can fail the IR Skills test if you don’t ask. Aeros teach you to check every 1,000ft and then top of climb and also on the decent. The point being you’re under the hood and don’t know if there’s ice, so you ask the examiner to check. You could also argue that it’s easy to get very involved in the flight at certain periods, such as preparing the aircraft for an approach, and then to possibly forget. I think it’s over taught to check for Ice so it’s engrained on your brain to always think about it!!
