Lainey Wilson burst onto the country music scene in 2022 with her album Sayin’ What I’m Thinkin’. That year, she won Female Vocalist of the Year and Best New Artist at the CMAs. But for seven years before that, she struggled to make it in the high-pressure Nashville music scene. And before *that*, she was a kid from a tiny town in rural Louisiana with a dream of being a country star. She joins Guy to talk about how she handled the hard times, what she’s learned about the art of collaboration during the making of two acclaimed albums, and what defines her unique style, which she calls Bell Bottom Country.

Just discovered this by looking up more interviews of Lainey and I have to say it's so refreshing to see an interviewer who doesn't cut off their guests constantly and just lets them tell their stories. Seems like most people these days try to make it all about them, and not the guest they have on their show.

You will be giving a concert in Vancouver in September 2024. Dolly Parton, Reba, Kenny Rodgers, have played in Vancouver.
For her to go from growing up in a town of 200 people to living in her camper, trying to get people to listen to her songs and having the door slammed in her face.....To now being the reigning Entertainer Of The Year......That's pretty incredible right there. That's an act of God and personal perseverance wrapped up into one.

The interviewer keeps asking the same questions over and over, but it was one of the best interviews I've listened to/watched. I feel like I've gotten to know Lainey. The 'if you're going to be a dreamer, you better be a doer' is something I wished I'd heard put that simply earlier in my life, because I am a dreamer and it's easy to just live in the dream rather than live it out.

I'm from India and recently moved to Lynchburg, VA. I love the culture here, especially in the country. One of my colleagues sound like her. I first heard Lainey on radio and thought she was Miley but thought no, Miley's content is crazy, this is real deal. I soon searched for her and found her. Lainey is a great artist and a great soul. Lainey Wilson is one star I will defend til my death. “Things A Man Oughta Know” is a song that stood out to me when it was on a Spotify playlist of indie country/folk mixed with some Nashville music that fell off the beaten path, and I fell in love with it instantly. A year later, it was number one. And I thought, who the hell saw that one coming? Women in Nashville are going rogue against the norms, and I am gonna continue to be here for it. Lainey is a huge catalyst.
