      @Okk681 Před rokem +6

      Makes sense, changing language really does seem to change a persons personality because your pitch may change. Also, the language often comes with the culture, and you may speak more politely or the other way around, like you can speak English very crassly and it’ll be considered casual but it may come off as rude or shocking in other languages. Just the way the language *is*, some things just don’t translate the same and you might even find that you deliver your sense of humor in a different way. It’s all honestly very cool, though.

After a few years, she was talking on the phone to her sister, who also spoke English. Then sis put her kids on the phone, who only spoke Spanish. I remember seeing the look on my friend's face when the kids started talking, my friend closed her eyes like she was concentrating, and then she started speaking Spanish. When she got off the phone she said that's the first time in my life I actually had to THINK in Spanish, think about what words I was going to say. But she said after the first few words, it was like riding a bike and her Spanish just started flowing naturally again.

    • @notisac3149
      @notisac3149 Před rokem +4

      I’m far from a polyglot but it’s happened to me too! I’d forget a word in English, that being my first language, but remember it in German or Spanish usually. It is pretty rare however, far from a weekly occurrence even.
      Once I even thought to myself “Was puedo hacer?” Immediately after, I was simply shooketh at the abominable combination of German and Spanish! I occasionally think in one of those three languages at a time, but this was the first time I crossed two foreign languages together in my head. It felt so natural yet so bewildering at the same time.
      Ooh and if you don’t mind, I’ve a couple questions since I rarely come across polyglots. How is it that you go about learning and acquiring new languages? Have you learned about them as a necessity, or because you wanted to?
      I don’t really see myself becoming a polyglot, but I really enjoy using and learning foreign languages. It’s to the point where I taught myself how to read Russian and Ukrainian because I wanted to hear more music from Eastern Europe. Sure I can’t understand 99% of what’s said or written, but I find myself slowly improving in my listening as well as pronunciation.
      I apologize if this is a lengthy read and thank you in advance!

    That's when you seek out bilingual folks and ask them to translate words into English for you. Because you're routinely thinking and processing information in the other language.

    Absolutely agree w him. Aside from native I speak 4 languages, none of them perfect;)
    Best, fastest way to learn language is to move to the country where it’s spoken and immerse yourself in it.
    Also, you need to maintain it.
    You don’t use it you lose it;)
