#primus #freethinkers - Zábava
Thanks for the shoutout and for reacting to this song. Sorry that I didn't comment earlier on this video. I was asleep when you guys uploaded this video lol. I knew you guys would enjoy the grooves and the funky vibes. This song is considered either funk rock or funk metal. Other bands like them are red hot chili peppers and Faith No More. I knew the vocals would be hit or miss but yeah lol. Anyways, thanks for reacting to this song. I haven't seen you guys react to rap rock song in a while so I would suggest Play Me (ft. Nas) by Korn. Keep up the good work. Today I have to do a speech on Hinduism in India for my communication studies class. That'll be interesting lol.
MJNation Namaste 🙏
I wonder how they would feel about the vocals in Freak on a Leash
Kyle Robinson they did a reaction to it a while back
MJNation - Thank you for getting Primus on the map for the guys :).
It just popped into my head, 4 bands because of your speech/dissertation for class:

mvunit3 Yeah no problem. I knew they would love the grooves and bass.
Primus IS funny, but they're no joke
David
Best comment...
Primus sucks.
Fuckin' right!! Still my favorite
Primus are a joke, but they are not funny. *Corrected, thank you.
Primus sucks.
Primus is musically classified as Primus. They are their own genre.
yep!
Primus Sucks!
There has been a genre on Winamp, since I've had it in the late 90's early 2000's known as Primus.
Slippy Jones THERE YOU GO!
That is a perfect way to put it
Claypool is the nutty professor of lyrics and a maniac on the bass.
Les can and does play anything with strings.
He's the Professor Nutbutter of lyrics
Haha dope! I see what you did there! 👍
Hes a mad scientist
Hes a GOD on bass
Also primus sucks
Been a while and you never came back too Primus! My Name is Mud, you won't regret it!
As a Primus fan, Mud is up there with Harold of the Rocks and the Pressman. Some of my favs
Yeah they need to do my name is mud
My name is MUD!!!!!
@@tdawggonzo88 wtf that song is shit
Nah “ frizzle fry” or “ here they come”
That tapping and sliding is called Les Claypool.
No, but it's his iteration of slap bass.
Slap bass indeed, the most difficult iteration of bass guitar
I think he’s just saying that Primus embodies Claypool..., vocals, bass, lyrics, humor and style... so it’s just a play on just how AWESOME Claypool is!!! And guys, OMG SEE THEM LIVE!
If y’all don’t know primus is the band that recorded the intro song for South Park
"Jerry was a race car driver" is one of their most famous songs. And their most famous song would be their south park theam song.
And somehow, Robot Chicken
I'd say, " My name is mud." is their biggest hit. Or maybe wbb..
It’s wyonas big brown beaver. It won them a Grammy.
Winona's Big Brown Beaver.
@@JAHDUBProductions The South Park theme song.
"I don't even know what this qualify as" welcome to primus
Outside of Mr Bungle probably the strangest group of the 90's.
Whenever someone asks me, I just say "Primus is Primus."
The question is harder the deeper into the rabbit hole you go. Lol
Primus Sucks!
Primus is an acquired taste. Its all over once you start digging it
Damn straight
OVER.
Once that groove snags you it carries you faaaaaaar away.
Acquired the taste the second my drum teacher put on Seas of Cheese for me when I was 8.
Jerry Was a Race Car Driver by Primus.
Or Wynona's Big Brown Beaver.
David Childers the toys go winding down.
Ditto! Is it Luck too.
David Childers Those Damn Blue-Collared Tweakers
Yeah, that’s a better song IMO.
I know it doesn’t touch their legacy but anyone who’s watched South Park has heard Primus
Sean Coats primus didnt write the south park theme it was just les claypool
It clearly states Primus as do all other websites and articles on it.
www.google.com/amp/s/collider.com/south-park-theme-song-primus-trey-parker-matt-stone/%3famp here another one where it’s the creators saying how they wanted(and got) PRIMUS to perform the song
Sean Coats thanks for the information i thought it was just les
Noodle soup, the current version of the South Park theme song is Les's solo stuff with the Primus vocals overtop of it but the original version is all Primus.
"Primus sucks!"
That's actually something Primus fans say, especially at concerts. It's all pretty tongue in cheek.
Fun fact. This saying started because fans were chanting for Primus Socks at a show that had sold out iirc. I can't wait to see Oysterhead, so glad Les is putting them together again for a few 2020 shows.
we had the the chant going at the very last slayer show nov 30
Les is so good he's played with members of the Police.
Oysterhead Rocks
Except claypool is a bass god
"We're Primus and we suck." God I miss seeing Live shows....
In case y'all didn't know, Primus wrote the theme song for South Park
And Robot Chicken.
Ol' Malley's Alley it was directed to the gents in lost in Vegas
FYI Primus is the band that does the South Park theme song. Also Les Claypool (the bassist and singer), got his unique style because he has bluegrass/banjo style influences.
Les Claypool, the guy that was TOO GOOD for Metallica…
To be fair, Metallica is not a band of crazy talented musicians. Just some dudes writing thrash riffs.
@@TheGuitarifier don't say that in front of the CliffCultists.
You guys wanna jam on some Isley Brothers?
@@alexschuster1618 I wasn't really exposed to the Islet Brothers until 2014 and was amazed. The 70s was an amazing era of music talent.
@@carpediemarts705 That was Claypool's joke to Metallica during his audition. "Nobody laughed."
They did the intro to South Park but in my opinion “my name is mud” is the best!
Rusted
Mr. Krinkle is their #1 for me
@@hellbach6268 i was just gonna say the same fuckin thing haha
Especially the live Woodstock 94 version.
frog brigade did the 2nd iteration of it, still claypool.
why is everyone keep mentioning that song? am i missing the joke? that song is terrible
This video came sliding down my recommendations like butter dripping off a hot biscuit
Mikael Mäkelä torilla tavataan
Jerry Was a Racecar Driver or John the Fisherman would have been better for them to start off on, as far as Primus goes.
Haunting History or “Wynona’s Big Brown Beaver”
Haunting History Yes, anything off of the Brown Album, but Mary The Icecube and Frizzle Fry, Too Many Puppies
sgt.baker?
I was gonna say Jerry was a race car driver,I agree.
My favorite to play on bass myself is Southbound Pachyderm. But, for someone trying out Primus who might have to warm up to them, anything on Frizzle Fry might be too "out there" until they get accustomed to their sound. They might enjoy Primus' cover of Metallica's "Thing That Should Not Be", or as FamilyGuyRoka6 suggested, "Wynona's Big Brown Beaver".
If one sentence could perfectly describe primus it’s “that bass is nasty!”
The song you were thinking of was written by the Spin Doctors
5 minutes in Primus Hell for that comparison indeed
It's a snare drum roll.........
I'd bet my soul that neither of the two bands mentioned are the inventors of it nor the first to record that specific one.
I question if these two ever watch much live music & pay attention to what the musicians are actually doing.
Yes, The Spin Doctors "Two Princes"!
Confused by Primus... mission accomplished!
Les Claypool is incredible.
Andy Haverland fucking amazing!!!!
You guys have no fucking idea how monumental it is that you guys dove into the upside down world that is Primus!! It only gets weirder from here.
RosettaStonedTV well said!
Casey Hallows thank ya 💥
when i grow up i want to be one of the harvesters of the sea before my days are done i want to be a fisherman
When he was young youd not find him doing well in school, his mind would turn unto the waters
That's just one of many hits by Primus...
They have many.
My Name is Mud and Jerry was a Racecar Driver 2 really good Primus songs
Good songs but WAY over played by none true Primus fans.
Probably would have been better for someone not knowing what they were about to listen to as well.
Jerry is the most commercial of their songs. Id say Wynona is a good option with fun lyrics and a great video.
I find it hard to choose a "bad" song among Primus albums.
Winona way better
Tommy the cat is Tom Waits. This song was a jam session with Tom who had been one of Les Claypool's (lead singer and bassist) heroes. It was basically a dream collaboration for him.
This right here
Two princes is by a band called Spin Doctors.
And they sound nothing like Primus. In fact, they may have been the Anti-Primus.
@@tchoupitoulos
Yeah, I was a bit confused by the comparison. Maybe, just because they were 90s too?
Kelly Stephenson they were comparing the snare role intros
@@tchoupitoulos - Well, both bands have songs where the bass player is slapping all over the place (Off My Line would be an example by the Spin Doctors, and the song's staccato guitar in the verse sounds similar to what Ler plays in many Primus songs).
@@stewartross13 That's not a snare roll, FYI.
Tommy the Cat is a harsh introduction to Primus. They have to be one of the most interesting and fearless bands out there and have been for a long long time. Claypool has a vocal style that reminds you of so many things but makes it all his own. He is also an absolute monster on the bass.
Check out "Jerry Was a Racecar Driver" or their cover of "Devil Went Down to Georgia" then jump into "My Name is Mud"
Or winonas big brown beaver. That’s catchy as hell
AAAAAWWWWWW💃💃 Y'all reacted to Primus🤘 Much ❤!!!! FYI: PRIMUS SUCKS is a term of endearment 😉
Mars Volta!
Either "Roulette Dares" or "Drunkship of Lantern"
YES
Shiiit anything from deloused
They never went back to Primus after this did they? That's a shame.
4 years later, they finally did it.
@@theolinwox Ya, I just saw that pop up, might watch it.
If you don't get Primus there's no hope .... sigh.
Primus is famous for the bass riffs by Les Claypool. Try reacting to Primus, "My name is Mud.
Primus Jerry was a racecar driver is which I should’ve heard!!!!!
Pantera "5 minutes alone", "Becoming", or "I'm Broken"
mesa recto just gimme!
Mouth for war?
4:00 - It's Tom Waits talking as "Tommy". Y'all should appreciate it.
and the bartender is daniel stern, one of the burglars in home alone and the inner voice of kevin arnold in the wonder years
@@PK_Mega_Awesome Definitely not Daniel Stern. It's actually Les Claypool playing the bartender.
I saw these guys open for rush in 1992. What a double-bill. Currently, Primus is on tour and playing a long portion of a classic Rush tunne (Cygnus X-1). the two bands had a lot of mutual respect for each other.
Death-Crystal Mountain!
Les Claypool is an insanely talented bassist...and I will agree his voice kind of catches you off guard but it somewhat grows on you after a couple listens!! I would suggest "Mr. Krinkle" or "My Name Is Mud" by Primus :D
Best live performance you'll ever see. I highly recommend going to one of their shows.👊
I want to see the video of them realizing that the bassist and the vocalist are both Les Claypool...
And the bartender!!!!
mica davis most of the vocal work on this track is actually Tom Waits. The part where Tommy is telling the story is him, the intro and chorus is Les.
@@derekgilbert1752 I was not aware of that, thanks for the new information. Les was the usual vocalist though, no? Like on electric uncle sam or the antipop?
@@revwroth3698 He's the vocalist on most songs, Tom Waits was on this one.
Death-Lack of Comprehension!
Primus is definitely an acquired taste. I have found the more you listen to them, the more you love them. They don't take themselves too serious, and neither should the listener. They weave some brilliant narrative throughout their albums, which is why you need to hear more than just a few random songs. Lost in Vegas for Life!!!!!!
Ye Olde Shoppe jerry was a racecar driver, fish on, my name is mudd...dmv...shake hands with beef..krinkle.....totally agree though..acquired taste..great musicians
Primus sucks!
I'm gonna see them in May :)
Ye Olde Shoppe agreed!
I agree entirely, i'm not a massive Primus fan but I do like them and as far as bass players go, not many better! They're definitely something you either love or don't really get.
You guys have to listen to the live version to see just how good this song can sound 👌
God no, live is the worst version.
Like... I'm a deathmetal person but Les man. He is hands down the best bassits of all time.
And we know about Alex Webster 😅
My dude is right: primus is classified as, "I guess we call this metal?"
That's the actual genre.
Agreed
Tron Carter primus is not metal
Mason Hugh
you arent
Apparently, Primus is the only band on iTunes that has its own category....and it's "Primus"
Primus - John the fisherman . First song that got me into them
Or anything off Frizzle Fry. That album is brilliant.
Amen
Yes please. Came looking for this. John the Fisherman or Jerry was a Racecar Driver.
I frickin love you two,s commentary and choice of music to review. I was well aware of primus way before this, and give you guys my deepest respect for opening your minds to all kinds of music. So many hidden gems by bands and musicians out there that closeminded people completely miss by only listening to " what they like".
I loved watching you guys experience this weird ass group for the first time.
Super glad you picked up on so many of the little things that make Primus fun and enjoyed Les' virtuoso bass skills
The song George was trying to think of was "Two Princes" by The Spin Doctors 😉
It was Ryan bro. George was actually mistakingly humming 'Semi-Charmed' by Third Eye Blind 😂
Spin Doctors - refrigerator car - is the titts
The singer(Les Claypool) is also the Bass Player. Amazing bass player, and yeah, he is a little odd.
Be ready for a flood of "Primus Sucks" comments. Fans flood comment sections with that as a joke :)
Danny Carey from TOOL once filled in on drums for them when their drummer could not tour because of a illness
And Justin Chancellor had a cameo on their newest album
Rumor is Les tried out for Metallica after Cliff pressed away. He was turned down for being too good thinking they would hold him back.
Danny Carey also played with Les Claypool a few songs on two albums by Adrian Belew. Check out Adrian Belew's _Ampersand_ and _Writing on the Wall._
i got to see primus with buckethead. amazing show.
Insane
Saw that too! Bad ass show
Saw Primus open for Rush back in the 90's. Yes, I'm old, but they rocked. Had a guy behind me to tell me to sit down during Rush. . Who sits down at a concert?! 😂
Primus has no genre. It's Primus.
The description I've heard that made the most sense is "progressive funk," but they're definitely their own thing
They’re actually considered (goblin metal)
Hence why they are trash
Back in the Winamp days there was actually just a genre called "Primus" lol
@failtolawl Well, you tried.
Primus - Wynona's Big Brown Beaver. I call it comedy metal.
jeremy wilson good one!!!🤣🤣🤣 They will laugh soooo hard.
When I was in high school in Milton Pennsylvania, this band was a institution in itself. A lot of my peers loved this band. Some they were their favorite band. Just one of a kind.
More people need to know about primus, I got to see them live with slayer and it was amazing.
I've seen them open for Rush twice. Also saw them with fishbone. And a couple times by themselves. Great band to see live.
That seems to be an unusual mix.
But i cannot complain as i like both bands.
I'd go see that show for sure.
Same here. Was the best show. Phil anselmo opening crushing Pantera songs.
Ler, the guitarist in primus, used to be in a death metal band, possessed.
Dude, anybody who Reacts to Tommy The Cat in 2018 has reached so far into the butthole of time and space, than when you pull out your hand, you realize... you realize... WOW there is SO MUCH MUSIC OUT THERE to be fondled and groped and... and... WONDERED about. Kudos to you for WONDERING.
This is a great comment.
Tru dat
I have become horny! Reading your comment made me horny! Horny!
Would that make them Butthole Surfers??
yoo.. i haven't clicked a video so fast. my dudes, i've been waiting for this moment. haha. les claypool is a weiiiird dude. you guys definitely need to check out more, like one of their less "auctioneer" songs. i feel like 'lacquer head' would be a good next step. 'to defy the laws of tradition' is also a personal favorite of mine. but seriously, do more primus.
also, hope you guys are well.
Balls Diculous
My Name Is Mud. Course, that's my usual go-to with Primus.
Balls Diculous I say "Jilly's on Smack". It's time you guys reviewed a live song! Check out the live version Bonnaroo 2011.
Mr. Krinkle.
Antipop
To Defy The Laws of Tradition is an excellent pick. That was my introduction to Primus.
You guys crack me up on this one. Great job!! Keep it going
Great recommendation! Yes “Jerry was a race car driver” or “John the fisherman” next...my vote
Lost in Vegas RuLez!
when you guys are reading the lyrics and laughing, and talking about how much you enjoyed the carnival/metal/jazz/funk fusion- i'm watching someone become a fan of the absurdity that is primus.
i've watched you react to the little diddy 8:38 like 15 times. "WOOOOOOO That was hard!"
Evan Gipson Totally unique group.. First time I heard Les Claypool play I was just blown away..
The song you couldn't remember the name of in the beginning was "Two Princes" by Spin Doctors.
Love this from back in the day. Laughed and admired with you
Love your videos- keep up the good work!
You did Primus!? Awesome.
Samwise! Funny seeing you here! :-D I subscribe to your channel! heh :-)
do MORE primes!!!
Haha, *High Five* KabukiKid.
Yeah, these guys are great.
^5
React to Buckethead - Soothsayer. An instrumental masterpiece played by a man with a bucket on his head.
Interesting choice. I think they'd like it, but no lyrics, also it's longish but sick track none the less
I guess if they did react to it, they could just edit the video to make it a tad shorter. They've done it previously to some other lenghty tracks.
Yes or they could do a lebetron by them
Yeah some big b, most misunderstood virtuoso in the music biz. If you like guitar, youre bound to like at least a hundred pieces from him(dudes got around 400 albums)
Id perfer a song that really encapsulates Buckethead's persona, like Welcome to Bucketheadland or We Are One with Serj, Soothsayer is one of his best though
So happy this reaction is back. You guys were laughing and enjoying the music aswell. Primus is quirky but very talented. I would love for you guys to react to the song that inspired me to pick the bass up years ago.
John the Fisherman by Primus.
You guys are great, much love from philly
I was just wondering why I hadn't seen this reaction. Started watching a little less than a year ago, and had asked for a Primus reaction. Well, here it is!
I could give yoi a million songs and bands but you guys have such a great open mind and i thank you!
Great reaction. Bass is life for Primus fans. FYI, you more than likely have heard Primus before...if you've ever watched Southpark.
You KNOW I clicked immediately for this one!
Entropathocracy69 I shut off a other vid to jump over here for this
It's Primus, a genre alone.
That's one of my favourite Primus songs. So much fun to play on the drums
"That bass is nasty. . ." Welcome to Primus.
Les Claypool's "singing" is definitely an acquired taste, but their instrumentation is undeniably stellar on all fronts.
Brandon Kazimir that pretty much hits the nail right on the head.
Love your reaction, because that is how its intended :) big love!
Great music gets your emotions and I love to listen to these guys when I need to smile. They are all great musicians and the base is amazing. Put them in when you want to smile because they will do that.
Pink floyd - time
Edin Kreso yeah it's time for some floyd
Yes, need some Floyd, but I say Comfortably Numb for that guitar solo.
I like Money personally, but Time and Comfortably Numb are great choices also.
Les Claypool (Bassist) is one crazy bastard. But he's also probably among the top 3 Living Bassists in the world. His band is odd but the groove is always there. And you know you shouldn't like it but before you know it you can't stop moving...You should do Jerry was a Racecar Driver or Wynona's Big Brown Beaver next time you do Primus.
And yes...Their shows are awesome!
Damn it all you had to say LIVING bassists... RIP Cliff
Mitch Berg. Let's not bring Cliff Burton into this. He was mediocre at best...While he was PERFECT for Metallica he was no Stu Hamm, Jeff Berlin, Les Claypool or Jaco Pastorious...Hell he wasn't even on the same level as Flea...Again. I do agree that his loss was felt greatly for Metallica and anyone that likes their older stuff such as myself. But he was just an average metal bassist.
As proof...Les Claypool in fact auditioned for Metallica after Cliff passed. And they turned him down because he was TOO GOOD!
LOL!! I love Primus but both of your first reactions had me laughing, I knew you would react the way you did when you heard this song and watched the video lol.
Love your channel! Keep it up.
Pink Floyd - Time
"My Name is Mud" and "Jerry was a Racecar Driver" arguably are their best songs, but for an instrumental, try "hamburger train".
Chris Madsen John the fisherman!
Yessss! They should have done my name is mudd instead of this one. Like to let them know!
spaghetti western
as always your vids are a diamond polished with effort.
Dudes! Ya absolutely have got to see a live version of this!!! Shit is fire!!! 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Les Claypool is the man
Also, primus did the south park intro theme ;)
How did I not know this? Lol
Actually it was just Les
And Robot Chicken
@@darkdudironaji I think it was the whole band. Cause Larry has played that riff in a video before Rig Break Down I believe.
there could be no better collaboration of the two, a match made in satirical and relevant look at society
Kyuss - Demon Cleaner
Would love to see some Kyuss done!!
KYUSS!! I would go Green Machine or Gardenia though
I'd love Kyuss, but I'd go Supa Scoopa and the Mighty Scoop or Phototropic, maybe.
Phototrophic, Whitewater, Gardenia, all great Kyuss songs
Kyuss, Monster Magnet, Karma to Burn,....
glad to see this video come back!
"My name is mud", was dubbed the theme song of Woodstock 94'.
Faith no more - the real thing class song
I say "Midlife Crisis" is a better choice.
Midlife Crisis for Sure
Primus has always been a goofy band, but Les Claypool is a rock god and does what he wants. If you do get back to Primus I recommend Wynona's Big Brown Beaver, it's one of my faves. How about some Weird Al Yankovick for April 1st? lol
+1 for Wynona's Big Brown Beaver, the groove on that song is equally funky and I think the song itself is more musically interesting.
He’s in the running for the best bassist in history
Definitely primus- wynonas big brown beaver
Wynonas big brown beaver is a very good song. Their cover of 'the devil went down to georgia' is also a great one
That song made me go out and finally buy a double bass drum pedal for my kit. Tim Alexander is so good at what he does.
Johnny was a race car driver he drove so goddamn fast...he never did take that checker flag..but he never did come in last!
One of the best shows you'd have seen in the early 90s. Saw them with Fishbone in a small club. It was so much fun.
my name is mud - primus
"Welcome to this world" or "The air is getting slippery".
Kyuss - Gardenia
or their version of "into the void"
oh god yes
I laughed the first time I heard Primus
Now I’m addicted
I feel ya.
This is a great song. It's amazing what a really good bassist can do.
Schism by Tool is something you guys should definitely check out if you’re a fan of bass
Dylan Dickenson agree
Anesthesia (Pulling Teeth)
Justin Chancellor is so underrated.
Or The Pot 😁
Primus - Jerry Was a Race Car Driver
He drove so goddamn fast.
He never did win no checkered flag
Primus sucks!
But he never did come in last
Fish on, Wynona's Big Brown Beaver, Mr Krinkle.
This band deserves more than a one song listen. Primus is very very unique, and there is a "serious" sound to them as well. Kind of... "Professor nutbutter's house of treats" is a must. Or Southbound Pachyderm.
That whole album is amazing.
"From all the candy the seats were sticky as they drawn into the grapevine"
