I think if women want to be trad wives, they just have to be smart about it, have savings, investments, passive income, always have a form of income. So the dynamic with the trad husband works well in this dynamic.

  • @aeiou0123

100%. From one Economist to another, Note that even historically, women who were fully traditional non working wives, had structures in place to protect them in the event their husband died or fell ill. For example, a widow n kids were taken in by the husbands extended family to be cared for. In todays’s society, it makes sense that women earn their own money just for self dignity and ensuring Person Risk is mitigated

    •  Před 2 měsíci +6

Agreed, I think I might have edited the part out that a widows would usually be taking in by their husbands brother or elder brothers etc if they had one but even then some women were unable to find people who were willing to take them it because you become a financial burden to others who likely already have financial responsibilities

Very refreshing POV. I work at a law firm and we deal with divorces - there are so many clients who, even if economically active, lose access to their assets due to strain relationships and have to fight to get what rightfully theirs back.
Even if you decide to give it a go and be a stay-at-home lady, try to protect yourself by acquiring some assets in your name only/making a proper pre-nup post-nup agreement/getting life insurance in place! 💛

I remember commenting about the dangers of this trend last year on another creator's channel, and people were calling me a hater. Glad to see more women are talking about how financially vulnerable this situation is and how it often isn't the best position to be in the long term.

    • @josephjohnson1057
      @josephjohnson1057 Před 2 měsíci +1

Hmm, not necessarily. It's more about how you tradwife. Side hustles, part time employment, telecommuting, and entrepreneurship are all avenues that can allow you to land on your feet. I honestly believe a lot of the blowback is from people hating everything conservative. There are also dangers in letting kids raise themselves, sacrificing closeness to children for an unapologetic, toxic male boss, and letting relative strangers raise them. There's a middle ground, I know a few intelligent women with advanced degrees who decided to stay home with their children. I'm talking top of the class.

  • @EarthOrNothing

If women's unpaid labor for childcare and housework was paid, then yes, I'm sure lots more women would enjoy staying home. But you're making POINTS saying, most women are NOT getting paid for this!! This is a failing of our societies for not valuing this work in the same way. Thank you for this discussion!!

I couldn’t agree more. As a married woman who has an amazing providing husband who is the bread winner i often tell women you have to make sure that in the event of any unforeseen circumstances (God Forbid) you want to make sure you will be financially stable. With the rise of this trad wife soft life trend I get so much pushback so I am so happy to see people with platforms speaking on the liabilities that can come with it if you have no financial stability to fall back on.

this video needs to go viral! this is so amazing and you hit the nail on so many topics. I loved when you mentioned that consumers need to think more critically, because at the end of the day, it comes down to each individual to stop purchasing these products. Influencers wouldn't be relevant or wouldn't sell anything if the consumer didn't buy it. but also it's not their fault that people buy stuff.
And then I loved your thought on privacy too. Sometimes I forget that we do see random people sharing their houses, being half naked on the internet. It's like it used to be with the news, hundreds of years ago you didn't know what happened in Australia if you lived in New York. But today you not only know about all the major events and breaking news happening, you also have access to millions of people's lives online.
Again, this video is just amazing, I love your thinking and I really wish it gets pushed out more and people start thinking more for themselves instead of following trends. thank you Lamide!

I think the traditional gender roles were/are not really understood. Giving rise to abuse and later the women sufferage movement. At the core of traditional gender roles was division of labor. Example, if a husband has a 9-5 there is no need for the wife to also have a 9-5 because that would have an economic opportunity cost. Instead the wife would leverage that small income from the husband's 9-5 and establish enterprises from that. That is the essence of the Proverbs 31 woman. Thats not an abused or lazy bum sitting at home and knitting woman. So at the end i totally agree that a woman needs to be financially astute because then thats how you become a multiplier.

The oppressive objectivity that southern black domestic workers were subjected to was a discursive, systematic and pervasive mistreatment based on their race and occupation.Black people have always had to work our asses off being a stay ay home wife or mom is rare in our community in america only 24 percent of women are even married so remove the ones who are staying at home its such a small number so if bw want to stay home im not against it why do we always have to be the strong independent don't need no man ? It was safe for women to be in the private sphere. Also, this is not universal. Women have had many economic rights in many great ancient societies in history such as Sparta and Israel.

Women in most countries were met with disapproval or blatantly told you cant do this you cant do that you will only do this you can do that AND the environment in those countries was usually dangerous so women didn't have a choice in the matter, obviously there are women in the past who've achieved things that we learn from such as scientists and the like, but you can guess how difficult it would have been for them.

@@jusatesst I just don’t like the premise that women were “not allowed”. It was for their safety, as most of history is violent and brutal. It became a social norm and turned into “not allowing” because of the culture around it. But the fight for women’s liberation in the last 100 years was premised on the Industrial Revolution. It was now safe for women to work outside the home because technology made the work less brutal. So, that is it. It’s a technology issue

Tell me @Lámidé Elizabeth, given your lifestyle, it is clear that you do not support being FINANCIALLY dependent upon a man. With that being said, do you advocate for 50/50?

From her videos ,she promotes being a contributor not just a taker.
Most women have what it takes to be financially independent so why be just a taker, considering that working as a team brings bigger returns.

      So, two things@@ezinneerhirhieneeukaogo1439...
      1.) Contributing ONLY "financially"?
2.) You should NEVER speak for someone who is "fully capable" of speaking for themselves.
