In this barbie tutorial video, I show how to remove teeth from your barbie girl or guy. Wanna make your doll prettier? Tired of Barbie's silly grin and bright blinding teeth? This tutorial will show you how to get rid of the teeth, leaving her with a subtle smile. Watch and learn how to change barbie's smile or stop showing barbie doll's teeth.
You can do this for any vinyl doll in play scale and it is really easy and fast. Try it on your sparkle girlz, barbie, skipper and Stacey, ken and Steven, frozen Elsa or Anna, made to move barbie, monster high, descendants and ever after high dolls!
This Do It Yourself (DIY) project is intended for adults and mature teens who can handle sharp objects safely. If you are a child and want to customize your barbie dolls, please seek adult assistance. Kids: DO NOT TRY THIS ALONE or you will get hurt!
Thanks for watching.

I'm an adult but I probably need adult supervision with an exacto knife too lol.
This is such a good idea. It is definitely easier to get a wider range of emotions from the doll when the mouth is closed. I've always admired the closed-mouth dolls, but they're not as common as open-mouth dolls. You're really good at customs, and this is such an awesome tip! It really makes a difference.
+AllDolls OMG AllDolls... I am blushing. You really know how to make a girl feel special.
:))
This is an incredible and fascinating channel 👏 This CZcamsr is magnificent. I used to make clothes and create different hairstyles for my Barbies but I never ever knew all of this was possible, changing smiles and make up, nit to mention adding baby hair, etc. This absolutely blows my mind.
Oh my goodness! Thanks so much for watching AND commenting 😁
Thank You!!!! I never thought of getting rid of Steven's whacked out stupid smile. Can we say "IT'S GONE!" soon as I get the gel glue. You rock Lovee.
I feel like this might now work with all face molds, but it's definitely worth trying out! I love Raquelle's closed-mouth face!
Yes you are right. The face sculpt weighs heavily on how well this project turns out. You can close the mouth on nearly all the head sculpts, however, if the doll starts off with a very long/large open mouth smile, the closed version will by very dramatic. The doll will have a very big grin. It works, but the look may be off-putting. I normally don't even purchase barbies whose teeth are showing to that degree. The carnaval sculpt has a fairly wide smile but I was able to pull off this technique with it and it turned out surprisingly well. I posted an update video on my custom dolls with teeth extractions, and I showed the results on my Carnaval Barbie if you are curious to see how it looked. Thanks for stopping by!
@@BrokenDollyTV Oh, I don't think I've seen that video yet! Which one is it?
curiously interesting...I never thought of doing this. Some of them look good smiling, but when they all smile the same it does tend to look a bit weird. Thank you.
+Annette Thank YOU for watching AND commenting!! ☺😉☺
IKR I’m so tired of the ugly smiles they always give the brunette dolls like sheesh not everyone always wants a doll that’s smiling
Yes, sometimes they creep me out. When the lips are closed, you see the face sculpts are usually really pretty. The teeth can be so distracting.
@@BrokenDollyTV Yes I agree! You are the only doll youtuber I found that dislikes the barbie smile and made a tutorial on how to fix that. Really helpful and original!
Nikki looks so much more beautiful with a closed mouth. I never wanted a Nikki doll because of the smile but now I do.
We felt the same way!!
Thanks so much for watching AND commenting!!
:))
Steve looks amazing after his mouth has been closed
+Wave Rider thanx! Appreciate that.
Without smiles, some of the dolls look like they smell something that stinks.
yay now they have personality
Genius! I hated the vacuous Barbie grin. Now I know what to do about it. Thank you so much!
@Braiden Carter I can't stand the ones that have that pursed-lip and slanted eyes expression (like they made back in the late 50's through the 60's; and some more recent vintage reproduction collector dolls). They look like haughty-naughty Hollywood B-list starlets from the golden movie era.
A very quick glue alternative: 5 Second Fix. It's one of those "as seen on tv" deals, but no lie, 5 seconds while shining the built-in UV light between the lips and they are permanently bonded!!! I just finished doing this on an old Brandy/Moesha doll and she now has a demure grin!!! Love it!
+j_rizzo That's awesome!! Do you have IG? I love seeing the dolls this method was used on.
+Broken BarbieTV Yes I do. it's j_rizzzo. I follow you on IG lol
j_rizzo I always follow YT subs back. Hope you post some pics of your finished work
:))
I really don´t know why but I find this video oddly satisfying
Wow... I was just thinking not long ago how much I hate the barbie smile. Its okay sometimes, but its getting out of hand. And once you took the teeth away she looked like the uhhhh 2016 Holiday Barbie with the blue dress! I'd be scared to try this.. But one day if I get a cheap on I'd like to try this. ^_^ Thanks for sharing.
Thanks so much for watching AND commenting!!
:))
Yay, this is so great! I've seen so many dolls and doll heads that I would have loved to work with, but they had open mouths and that just wasn't what I wanted. Now I can finally stop settling for a doll I didn't like as much just because her mouth was open! :)
P.S XD I commented too soon sorry. But I agree about that mattel thing with Ken. They do that to the little toddler dolls too. I keep saying if I get either that's the first thing to go.Ohhhh your Steven looks 20 times better..
Great Tutorial. I feel the same with smiles it always gives the same look and is not great when trying to create different characters.
Omg crackhead. Girl I cracked up this hole video. Poor dolls are in agony hahahaha wow!🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Wow, I had no idea what a huge difference this made, especially on Steven and Nikki! I'll have to give this a try. Love your awesome tips!
+A Rose Garden (Alex) LOVE YOUR AWESOME PERSONALITY! hope you try this out!
Broken BarbieTV you are too sweet!
can you do a tutorial on baby hair?
I really like your technique with repainting doll faces. What do you use to seal the makeup?
I'm not sure what she uses. I'll have her reply when she's available. 😎?
What does she use on whole face to seal?
Brilliant, I'll try this on my old dolls
Thanks for watching Jen!!
😄😄😄
Cool and crafty! I personally wouldn't try it in fear of damaging my dolls. But I do think mattel should make more non-teeth smile dolls for playline. Like the raquelle doll in the life in the dreamhouse doll line with the sassy smirk, or steffie face mold midge😍😍. Or a doll woth no smile.
i wonder how it looks if the whole lip paint was removed and then shaded to make it look close
Try it! I did and it look AWESOME!!
This is the first time I've seen this done to a doll! It does give them a whole new expression.
this is a really nice tutorial for the ones who want their dolls mouth to be close! great job girl!
I used the 100% acetone (along with a couple Q-tips) to remove a pre-printed tattoo on the Tris Pryor doll (from the _Divergent_ series). Worked like a charm! That was easy though, for it was almost impossible to mess up-nothing to cut, glue, or repaint, etc.
I'd just purchased her mostly for her articulation (although her face sculpt and clothes were kind of nice, too); and not for her character identity. I wasn't familiar with that at all. But then after watching the movie, I decided I kind of liked the tattoo on her (it's not overly large or obvious), and so I got another one, lol.
I might try this technique you illustrate here at a later date, sometime when I'm feeling more adventurous, ha ha. Thanks for the video!
That's awesome. Thanks for watching! Be sure to watch the video til the end!!
😀😀😀
Raquelle looks so pretty now ^_^ Thank you for this tutorial video, it's very helpful, cos I dont like blinding teeth green too x3
Thank you so much for watching AND commenting!!
:))
the way your painted her lips in this video was very pretty. I just love the look.
i want to try this for a custom doll of a character from orange is the new black (alex) and i have questions first can i use any brand of super glue gel? i want to buy the gorilla one, also after i do this am i going to me able you use 100% acetone to remove the paint or should i remove the paint first and then do this?
wow!this is a great tutorial!!I hate how so many of my daughters dolls have open mouth's! none of them have close mouth's! thank u so much for this tutorial!! xoxo
Great thanks! I really want to see what new fashionistas Steven/Darren look like mouth closed :)
Wow!! I love the expressions on the faces "after surgery". Each one was unique. I loved the change in Stephen. I never picked him up for exactly that reason, I didn't like the face mold, like you said, he had a rather creepy look. Now, thanks to you, I am going to try this with some of my other dolls. While I don't mind the smile with teeth showing, I prefer the closed mouth look. I have a few dolls I picked up from the thrift store and will practice on them first before attempting this on my own dolls.
+Nora Dennis that's a stellar idea. definitely try this out on the "junk" dolls first. it's really a lot easier than it looks though. After the first try or two, you will likely get the hang of it.
I watched this vid on and on before I found the courage to cut Barbie's teeth, an yay, it works! But mine still had jagged cuts so I ended up concealing it with small amount of glue specifically for plastic. Now she looks like she spouts one of those Hollywood plump lips.
Anyway, thank you so much. :)
Good on you for taking the dive and removing Barbie's teeth!! Thank YOU so much for watching AND commenting!!
:))
I love this ideal & can't wait to try it myself!! 💜💯
i think the only one that doesn't look right are the twins in the grey shirts where the smile was molded a little different with a smaller rounder mouth. everybody with the big honkin OMG THIS IS LIEK SO GREAT!!!!!!111 face looks better with the closed mouth. i really hate that default dead inside empty smile most barbies have, and even when it looks ok it bugs me to have clones with identical faces
Dead inside... 🤣🤣🤣 yeah, closing the mouth if definitely a good way to make the same sculpts look slightly diff. I have a closed mouth daya and carnaval that are unique compared to the open mouthed ones I have too. The smaller smiles are easier to close and camouflage, for sure. And some are too small to work with, like barely a slit between the lips. Doesn't work as well for those.
4:50 I laugh so hard lol
I died laughing couldn’t stop . I’m wheezing
i like the bright smile on the barbie dolls
That looks very interesting. You did a very good job. Looks very realistic. I would try it with some of my fools but I'm afraid that I'll mess up.
that's okay. messing up helps you learn your technique until it gets better. i've done this tons of times and still occasionally make mistakes if i rush.
Yeah that's true.
The Ken doll looks amazing! i agree with you I always thought the permanent smiles looked creepy.
thanks for the tutorial!
Awesome job. You are right. There aren't tutorials online. There used to be. I was looking for one my friend did but it's gone. She put modeling paste on the teeth with toothpick then used her finger to smooth it. Just keep smoothing until no more paste gets on your finger. Then she painted layers of white glue over the modeling paste to make a thicker bottom lip. I wish she still had it out there. Thanks so much for sharing. I'll follow your other sites. :)
that sounds like a cool idea. i've never worked with modeling paste before. thanks for sharing this idea.
Thank you for this tutorial. I really like the dollhouse in the background. It looks like a Brownstone. Please can u show us how to make it?
I tried this I found a doll at the goodwill and i tried it ..came out good..I'm going to keep trying
Good job! I'm going to try your technique.
Thanks so much for watching AND commenting!!
☺☺☺
One idea is to take a tiny piece of clay that fits in the smile then let it dry in the mouth, paint and done!! (Great vid by the way!)
I don't have any Nikki dolls to this day because I hate her smiling face, but I never would have thought to cut the teeth out. Interesting. She does have a little bit of a Mbili look to her face with her mouth closed.
+back2s0ul Sorry 4 the late response, I am just seeing this today. That's an interesting thought, Nikki and the Mbili mould. What dolls are your favorites? MTMs are mine by far right now.
+Broken BarbieTV I only have the yellow top MTM doll so far and I really like her. MTM, Wonderwoman, and the posable silkstone are my most recent dolls and favs at the moment. My Barbie collection is varied but I tend to like the cheaper end collector dolls because of their clothing and style, or if its a tv/movie/comic book character I like, or a few country specific ones like Japan and India. I also have some articulated playline dolls from life in the dreamhouse and posable S.I.S., the Texas A&M Kens, and some older fashionistas. Then I have a few vintage reproduction anniversary dolls.
i want wonderwoman too. she's got a nice face. i think we may have similar tastes in dolls! I like all the ones u mentioned too.
I like a lot of dolls that have face molds with mouth closed as the Mackie or the Goddess. This is an interesting idea but I would not do it because I do not want to damage my dolls. I should like to see how it will look something like this on a face mold as the Superstar.
+DiFer TV I gotta say, it's much easier than it looks. I don't recommend trying it out on any expensive dolls until you develop a technique that works. I've done this on almost all my open mouth dolls and so far, haven't messed any up. Good luck if you do decide to try it someday, hopefully this video will help you along the way.
Yes! You did Steven (now I know his name.) He is going to be Noah from The Walking Dead. Shoot, or do I have Darwin...
lol. Both are more handsome with their mouths closed. haha.
LOL. For sure!
My stomach hurts from laughing SO hard at #crackheadnikki STOP
Love this comment. U get me🤣
I have no love for the Steven and Nikki face molds, but they look sooo much better now. I may have to invest in a few and try this. Thanks for sharing.
+Nefertiti Jones I just got rid of all my Steven dolls in December lol
+Nefertiti Jones U must! I detested those molds too, now they look brand new. And it's a shame cuz Nikki is easy to find on a jointed body and usually come with nice apparel and fab hair, what a waste. Steven can hold his own on a texas a&m body but i never thought he was worth the switch until i saw his potential with his lips shut.
lol SHUT your big mouth Steven
Lol
Broken BarbieTV That's what I wad thinking. Look at you! Got me buying more dolls.
I am going to use your tutorial to make my daughter super hero dolls. Natasha Romanov aka Black Widow, Gamora from Gardians of the Galaxy, and Melinda Mae from Agents of shield. Thank you! This was awesome!
Can i use elmers glue?
Princess Soto I don't think that will be strong enough
Great job!! Thanks for posting this! With a boat load of Nikki faces and a few Stevens, this gives me more options for customizing my dolls.
+Sketch McScribbles I just finished doin this to another Nikki. Now all my Nikki's have closed smiles and i gave them slightly diff lip shapes. I will eventually do a full repaint on them cuz I want to see what I can get out of their face sculpts.
One of your best videos! Very well put together! Thank you!
this is really cool! thanks! I avoid buying some dolls because of their smiles! so glad I stumbled across your channel...this is the third video I have watched back to back and just subscribed!
I hate teeth on barbies It always end up looking so weird. This tutorial is genius. The dolls look great now. Mattel, learn to close the mouth.
Thank you so much! This tutorial is very helpful!
Not a problem! ☺
This makes a major difference in the dolls, you're right. They go from the wife from the Viagra commercials to a farm more gentle expression.
Can you leave the lips a little open, like when you say 'you'? like, almost but not quite a duck face?
+Papallion Sunspell actually, some of the dolls whose teeth aren't so "big" don't look too bad with the teeth removed and the lips apart. But the ones with bigger openings just look like crack heads. haha. and lol at "wife from the viagra commercials". hahahahahahahaha!!!!!
Thank you 😊
This is amazing! I am doing this. Awesome vid!
I don't mind the smiling but they are dolls that have weird smiles but I will have to try this later on and do some experimenting.
I saw this idea somewhere else (a very old tutorial). I tried it, and it was a hot mess. I think the gel glues is probably the trick. I will try it again.
+Nikia Sankofa come back and update us with results if you try it.
This was so helpful!!!!! Thanks for doing this!
Thank YOU for watching!!
😀😀😀
You know what? I have a Brandy doll and I really hate her open mouth smile. Maybe I would do the Technic that you shared to her.
Thanks a lot for sharing :D
+Gongkiat i love the brandy doll and soooo totally want her! but haven't made the investment cuz i knew i'd get ticked off with her open mouth after a while. Yes, i would so do this to her if i owned that doll. She would look amazing with a closed mouth. If you try it, let me know how she turned out!
her face looks way better am i the only one whos glad they brought that mold back but great work
I love this! Do you think it would work with bigger dolls? I have been repainting the 15" Disney dolls
It will only work with the bigger dolls if they have soft heads, they have to have soft and vinyl heads! Thanks so much for watching AND commenting 😁
Broken BarbieTV Thank you so much for posting this tutorial. Its difficult enough to find AA male dolls anyway. I have a 'Steven' doll that I got for a really good price that I might seriously consider trying this on. His cheesy, toothy grin is so scary. What was Mattel thinking? I found you on Instagram through #donttouchmybarbie so shout out to her for mentioning your tutorial. Thanks Ladies!
Hey, thanks so much for checking us out. @donttouchmybarbie is our home girl. Glad you were able to make use of the information on the vid!
:))
Thank you so much! I can't stand those fake and creepy smiles!
Have you try this to Britney dolls? Lol
You are brilliant! Steven looks so awesome! If you ever do it on Floral tee please post it here or on ig! I just got him and I'm not a fan of his smile. Thanks for this video!
+BoyLikesDolls You already know! He's the next one on my radar. As soon as i finish editing all these backed up vids for you guys, I'm getting to work on him and will def share his finished look
Wonderful this is what i was looking for. Yippy my dolls have hope now those smiles are too goofy lol! Thank you for sharing your talent!!😊
good job!
I love this tutorial thank you for the help
what doll is the red head in the beginning someone PLEASE tell me
+Kokona Haruka yo weren't u in the yandere simulator game
Very fun. Just dont want repaired barbie. So nice.
Thanks so much for watching AND commenting!! 😁
I love your repaint on yellow too she looks so much better you have to show us how you repaint I'd love to see it
+Krissy :3 eventually i will do a repaint vid. i already have alotta requests for it and ppl probably think i'm just ignoring their requests. lol. honestly, i have to get used to repainting on camera and then editing the long process so it doesn't take hours to watch the video. haha
+Broken BarbieTV lol it's okay
What I do is instead of cutting up her teeth I use a bit of air dry clay and make it seem like her lips are closed and then I just repaint her lips
Yeah, I've seen that technique done and it came out looking really good! This is just faster for me. I'm a really lazy crafter. It would be an ordeal for me to take out my paints, buy the right clay, go to the store to buy the clay, uhg!! Get dressed to go to the actual store.... ect. I'm boring myself talking about the process!! But, whatever works is the ultimately the name of the game. Thanks for watching AND commenting!!
:))
This is perfect 'cause when Sharkeisha bust a cap, ain't nobody gon be happy.
+Brianna Carless lol
This helped me out a lot, I tried doing this at home and it was perfect, thank you Gyspie!
Thank you for the tutorial. Your dolls look great. First you got me wanting to switch all the bodies to made to move now i need to give them some closed mouth smiles. :D
+Kimmi Hi Kimmi! I just had to share this with you all cuz I stayed up til 6am one night trying to find any type of tutorial on this and just couldn't! I was soooooo frustrated. Once I figured it out, how could I keep it to myself? I do recommend the MTM bodies, they are amazing and really make it so you never wanna put down your dolls. You can pose them so adorably when they're sleeping, haha
Thank you for sharing. We love you for it :)
very awesome and helpful I love this video trying this at home to see the results
I love the beguiling pics and result!!!
does anyone know what doll that is in the beginning the redhead
i was wondering if you can see the marks on were you cut her teeth out?
I don't rly like the Steven and Nikki face mold but they look much better now
Exactly what I'm looking for, thank you!
Thank YOU for watching AND commenting!!
:))
Can’t I just send my dolls to you ... this looks completely complicated... lol
The fear of potentially getting it wrong makes it seem more complicated than it actually is. I can appreciate that.
I will have to give this a go, thank you for sharing this.
+Marie Wilson Thank you for sharing in our dolly love and for watching
I tried this on my ken doll and his face is so much better thanks a lot for this video
+jazzy hathaway Thank YOU for watching!
:))
Excellent Well done tutorials.
Looks better
Thanks!
I wish I could do this, but I'm to afraid!
This is hilarious to me because I was actually doing this waaay back in the day when i was little playing with barbies. im 27 now lol. I hated their teeth and smile too. So i would take polish remover or acetone and take the whole mouth off lmao. The only thing I didnt think of doing is cutting out the teeth and gluing the lips together, which is genius lol. I wish I would have known about those steps when i was young lol.
Hi Agendagurl! Great minds think alike! Also, you're an adult now, with your own money, so you can follow these steps with your current collection! Thank you so much for watching AND commenting!!
:))
Oh my lord, thank you
When you have no superglue and your 11 be like oop :0
LOL... maybe you can ask an adult to help you out? You need to use a very sharp blade to cut the teeth out, so this is dangerous for kids. The superglue must be GEL, not liquid. they costs like $3 or so at Walmart, and probably available to order online too. I hope you can find someone to assist you with this project, it's much easier than it seems on video. lol
I did this and it worked
Awesome!!
Me too. I got hooked on closing all my dolls mouth. And remaking their lipstick
love Stevens new look
+PALM TREE LIVING Finally, after all these years, i feel like i can play with him! The one I worked one is actually my son's doll and he was so happy i got rid of his goofy smile. His steven character is supposed to be a landlord, and my son thought he looked way too friendly to be coming around collecting late rent!
really nice, I always learn something new from watching your videos. Now I want to start my own collection of Barbie dolls. :)
+J Seals YOU SHOULD! you can find some really inexpensive fashionistas at Walmart for some starter dolls and later rebody them onto jointed dolls when you see some possible donors on sale for a decent price. Also, check out my followers on Instagram who have great pics and tips for the doll community online. You can follow them to get some ideas about the type of collection you want to start. Crafting for dolls is a really therapeutic way to express creativity and enjoy the props and scenes on display when you're done! Lemme know if you have any questions and I'll try to point you in the right direction.
+Broken BarbieTV thanks alot for the tips! I'll start researching dolls.
I'll be exited to see who makes the cut into the start of your collection! So many pretty faces to choose and there are some good deals on Amazon worth looking into if you don't wanna hunt around in stores. Especially considering dolls of color are harder to find in stores. I'd say $8-15 is a good price range for starter dolls, articulated bodies are even better!
Amazing! Definitely trying this!
@@mayleenv takes a bit of practice on some reject heads but once u get the hang of it, its very useful
YES! just what I needed 😀
Thanks alot 👍
Thank YOU for watching and commenting!! I am glad the video helped!!
:))
Very very helpful. Great idea!
