    This is graphically advanced for a NES game. Looks almost like an early Megadrive game.

      The release date is pretty on point as well.
      And yes, it is _pretty_ graphically advanced for an NES.
      And it's in an art style you would expect more in an american/european NES game than a japanese Famicom game.
      Because the studio who developed this game, Athena Co. Ltd, is a japanese studio and the game was released in Japan in 1990 first.

      I gotta make it clear that the reason why late lifespan games look so good, is due to mappers
      So this is not actually pushing any limits and doesn't follow the raw limitations
      But this looks really good either way

    THANK YOU so much for this video. Remember playing this game as a small kid, and thinking it was UNFORGIVINGLY hard, haha. I remember being amazed how a friends mom was able to get past the second level. Looking now, I had no idea this game was so short. :D

      I spent whole days trying to beat this game when I was a kid.
      Now I'm very surprised that it takes 20 minutes

    You can not only double-jump, but triple or quad jump to the top of the screen if you use a turbo feature (or have very fast fingers). You can swing your sword multiple times on a jump.
    By holding UP + B, you make a downward stroke--good for slicing those bats up there since you can combine it with a high jump. Also good for enemies on the ground, especially in a jumping attack.
    You can block the Wizard's diagonal "blue rain" attack by doing a high block with your shield (UP).

    Omg i finally found it! This was the first ever game i played as a kid 😢 i knew it had a gold knight and was a side scroller but now i finally found it. Hot damn the nostalgia is hitting hard 💪🏻⚔️

      @@alex_zhak That's not true at all, by now plenty of emulators cope with such effects. It's just World of Longplays backwards way of doing shit of using barebone settings in all emulators they accept, which often are older ones. On top of that, they refuse to get the older videos up to date.

    This game is actually pretty well done, despite the fact that the game has absolutely no story behind it at all. The final Boss music was epic for an 8 bit NES game; it captured a feeling of gritty dread, hopelessness, and woe. Nice playthrough, homie!

      Jul But yes. And all was software implemented. Either scan line speed splits or tile cell animated gfx shifting. But heck the visual end result is parallax so who cares!

      Better rub them with Return of the Joker. It clears acne spots, too. Level 7-1 has a 6-layer scrolling, including the foreground.

    Oh man, the timing is hard to get on this one but it was still pretty fun. The wizards and black knights were the most troublesome fuckers, the last boss too.

    This game has that dark souls vibe to it allot! Also looks pretty difficult for its time as well making me support even more the fact that looks like a dark souls! Some developers showing with games like those in the past that were ahead of their times as well! The graphics are awesome the music as well kicks some serious ass! And the final boss is scary as fuck,i believe it could easily be a conan game as well!

    Wow. Remember when I played this so long ago. The character swapping mechanic was pretty cool. Was damn hard. Never got past the 'Merlin' before the final two bosses.

    I think if you press up, select, and start at the same time it enters a type of tournament mode where you only take on one of each enemy throughout the whole game.

    Wow great game! Yet another one I never heard of. Seems like a mix between Legend of Zelda 2 and Castlevania. The music is a bit repetative at times, but it's still an enjoyable game to watch =) Thanks for the playthrough!

    Interesting. I see elements of Zelda 2, elements of the Castlevania series, and multiple elements of the arcade game Hippodrome. In fact this is practically Hippodrome turned into a side scroller.

      KickMaster Involves Medieval era, it's pretty good. You play as a mage and his principàl attack is kicking, hence the name, but its pretty versatile actually, you find spells along the way that are hidden in the levels.
