Your fact sheet lists ”649 CC”, which is quite fun for an electric scooter. 😂😂
I just got my C Evolution about 10 days ago and I'm at 800+ miles already. Wow!!! I have a BMW K1600GTL that has been feeling neglected and will be staying in the garage unless I go on a long trip. I have the Comfort seat which is thicker than the one you rode on. Range anxiety is something I don't worry about. I have an iPhone app that maps out charging stations and I have chargers at home and at work. I also have a BMW i3 so I am familiar with how their EVs perform. While the C Evo is pretty quick, it is very relaxing when riding between 35-55 mph. The performance headroom is large that it will jump and pass other vehicles surprisingly quick especially in Dynamic mode. Passing a car doing 50mph, this bike will read 77mph in what seems like 2 seconds, the pass completed just as quick as my GTL if I downshift 1 or 2 gears to get it in the powerband. The C Evo is always in the power band!!! While during night riding the halogen lights are quite good, LEDs would be a very nice upgrade. The taillight is very bright. Would I buy another one? Absolutely! Would I get tempted by a Zero SR/F? Not necessarily. The SR/F is a top quality bike which has an excellent ride and performance. Since performance awards handed by police are very steep, the performance envelope of the C Evo is more than enough without getting into reckless territory. And range is very comparable, within 10 miles + or - of any other electric bike. The reverse function is a big plus but BMW missed it by not having cruise control like the SR/F does. The SR/F list for about $21k for the Premium which is $10k more than what I paid for my C Evo (which lists for $14k) just because I bought a demo bike. I'm having a fantastic time with this scooter!
Benedictus Paraan So you’re a rich bastard then
It was longer than the video...😂
Is the 100 miles range accurate?
@@anjopot9951 You can get about 100 miles plus/minus 10 miles. You can go either faster or you can go farther, either or. You have a finite amount of battery capacity that you manage with your right hand. I still immensely enjoy my C Evo while I keep seeing problems being voiced by other electric motorcycle brand owners. I have 18200 miles now.
@@benedictusparaan3139 Thanks for the info! I also own an i3 and am very happy with it. Now looking for the C evo.
Mark. You had the biggest smile on your face talking about the new BMW scooter. Great video again gentman. I now managed to get 167 mile on my new v strom 250. I loving riding it. Just the seat a bit hard on the old bum. May need a trip to Tony archer in Huddersfield. Apart from that it great. Maybe you can do a review on one same time please. Suzuki v strom dl 250
Perfect for a short range commute
He's like a little kid, who's tasted popping candy for the first time. Great video. :)
Sail also can be called wing. As you were "winging it" it should have been in sail mode. Hope you haven't damaged it.
I do like that you seem to have heaps of room between your knees and the handlebars. As I have said before, I ride scooters for work and a geared bike for commuting and pleasure, and the one negative about the scooters is the low height of the bars, particularly on the SYM.
I have been switching between the bike and scooters since I started riding without any problems, I think that it wouldn't take long to adjust for anyone looking to switch to this scooter from a geared bike.
The whine is the noise of the electric motor. You like this I advise you give the Zero SRF a go lol
Tara! And the screen is STILL reflecting 😂
I have a NIU Pro e-scooter and love it here in China. Made in Germany too. 60kph is enough for around the city. 100km range with a Tesla type battery. This BMW is really nice. Much more expensive of course.
Very nice.
Great review as always guys! Would have been good to have better sound on Toby and also get a comparison of how good the Dynamic mode is compared with road mode?
Dynamic mode has the same power as road moad. it's just a differenze in recuperation. dynamc mode has full recuperation when you turn the power to zero. road moad uses just ~50% for this situation. but even in this mode, using the breaks stronger immediately increases the recuoeration to 100%.
i normally drive in road muad, just to be used to use the breaks. in dynamic you don't need the breaks for days, and will forget how it works in extreme situations
cheers from the swiss alps
In cars, sail mode will disconnect the motor from drive (think "clutch-in") when cruising at a constant speed, reconnecting as necessary to keep speed up. With this bike its effectively killing any recuperation of the battery when you ease off, no drag = no recharge and hence no braking effect in riding. Dynamic mode maxes recuperation, so close the throttle and it ramps up regen to the extent that it feels like braking. Dynamic in effect makes the bike ridable just on the throttle for most uses ...
nice Video . I have an Evo plus and get 85 mph out of it . I think it is the standard non long range that is limited to 75mph . Range varies a lot . at a constant 80mph range goes down to 5o miles . Love mine . had it 3 years and though I will test the new CE04 I reckon I will keep this
How much does it cost?
We have three of these that we use for work. we have had these for 5 years, so here are the pros and cons.
Pros: great fun to ride at low and higher speeds, need to have some balls to really lean it over on these tyres, riding modes Road, sail (no regen, coasting), dynamic does regen. eco pro only good on flat or any type of harder acceleration not required. accelerates really quickly, and I've taken on 600cc sports bikes at the lights, (don't tell tell bosses!!) Motorway riding 70mph no problem. Comfy to ride feet out or sat beneath your knees.
cons; heavy, if you drop it its harder to get up than my R1200GS, and they do fall over on the side stand if a lorry passes it (seen it happen twice to me!!)
Range you are looking at 80 miles on normal driving tops. the side stand holding bolt likes to come loss, (even after been locktight'd each time) and then the side stand switch then won't work and you can't go anywhere until you tighten it back up, or move the switch your self. The side stand is also connected to the rear brake, so side stand down rear brake is applied, (handbrake essentially), but the connection bolt will slowly loosen and then impinge the cable which will then snap at some point. but you wont notice until the bike moves forward on the side stand.
They have had the BMW recall to have the electric looms replaced, which was causing false error messages and the lights not working.
Despite these i still like to throw a leg over as they are fun to ride
You have to remember this bike originally went on sale in 2014 (with a battery upgrade around 2018) so it's probably a 2010-2012 design. No wonder there is only a halogen headlight and no keyless ignition. An expensive old design that is still on sale in 2019 makes me think there might be a new electric bike from BMW in 2020. However it may not be a scooter, we'll have to wait and see...
there is .....the ec04 is horrid compared
I'm super excited about the future of (electric) biking. I read somewhere that BMW are aiming to have 75% of their bikes electrified by 2021.
it was incredible!
Great review chaps. hope I am not to long in the tooth to see the range double and the recharge times come down to 5 minutes
For a first generation 100miles is pretty good! My grandad has a nissan leaf and that only gets around 100KM of range.
It's the second generation. First was 60 miles if you had it in eco mode. I drove one last year. The batteries went down 30% in 20km that test ride.
Great review. 100 miles is a long way for a commute.. it got to be part of the answer for round town pollution free riding. Did I miss the price in the review? I bet it’s not cheap cheers all 👍
From £14,024.
RamsFan thanks
And there is the killer fourteen thousand pounds 💷 for 100 miles don't look like such a good commuter now 🙄
@@kevindarkstar Why not? No maintenance on the engine and no taxes. A 50 km commute alone will save me €2000 every year.
I like the look of it... range is too low. May be able to store the charger in your helmet when parked
Charger is too big
As far as I can determine this bike is not available in Australia (where I live). We have no incentives to buy an EV of any sort and the only electric is a Harley at an outrageous $50K ride away. For comparison purposes I own a Suzuki Burgman 650 AN Executive. I consider it to be the benchmark of maxi scooters. I haven't ridden any of the BMW ICE scooters but I am sure they are good bikes. Due to the cost you don't buy a maxi scooter to deliver pizza - it could do that but you buy a maxi scooter with the intention of touring the highway/motorway/freeway and the back roads keeping up with the cruisers, tourers and crotch rockets. Again I am sure this bike can do that well but of course is limited by its range. You refer to the buffeting at high speed and suggest that this is probably due to the screen being quite low. The Burgman is no longer available in the 650 model (at least in Australia) but mine which is a 2009 version has an electrically adjustable screen meaning it can be done while riding. As you no doubt realise this is handy when approaching a town because you can lower the screen to get good air flow at low speed then raise it once you've left the built up area to reduce buffeting and strain on the arms and chest. The Yamaha TMax also has this feature where as the Kymco 550 requires tools and stop. The existing BMW ICE scooters also have this feature. Of course there are many other considerations to buying an electric bike but why would BMW has neglected this item - surely it can't be a cost saving measure. The screen is useless because it is too low to be any good at highway speed.
Good review gents,
A great looking scooter as you would expect by BMW, innovation their foray.
However as Mark said it weighs as much as a GS A which I suppose is irrelevant if the weight is low, the lights thing might be Euro law, not all lighting. LED which is controlled differently and not directly 12V as per your battery, I might be Incorrect on this but just a thought.
I've looked into electric motorcycle ownership and so far been put off by the cost, I was fortunate enough to have a go on a few Zero electric bikes when they done a UK wide promo drive two years ago, great bikes, fast responsive, build quality made for California not Scotland, especially in the winter, + price!
If the manufactures come up with a bike, preferably faired for both weather protection and aerodynamics, with an enclosed drive, a belt won't cut our winters, then I would be happy to change over from a petrol bike.
I don't really think it's bikes that are the problem at all, a person on a motorcycle travelling from A to B is a pretty good economically viable form of transport as it is.
Hi Digger, its an awesome bike but like you said I think they still a way to go yet... but fun! It was brilliant!!!!
Excellent ! Thank you. The halogen bulbs may be because the lithium/ion battery needs a kick in the pants to bring it to life in cold weather ..... just guessing. :-)
Christopher Sellars strange though eh? Ride safely.
Great for people in town that don’t do to many miles a day . Key . Strange you would think that they would do keyless being electric and a technology type product. Don’t put Toby in cardiac arrest chasing u with the camera. That dog is a scene stealer. I don’t like the tinted screen . Very Lo tech lights . Should b LED to use les energy on that kind of bike . It’s probably a belt that u hear whining at Lo speeds . Great video again . Thanks u guys .
Mark Lloyd thanks Mr Mark
Good review and video guys. The green panels on it make it look ugly
You can take it off and repaint it or put a vinyl wrap.
I prefer to let the noise of a bike let other road users aware I’m close by & I’m not talking about excessive high revs with loud exhausts
@0:41 > *649 CC of what?*
649 cc of electricity, you dimwit!
Yeah what the heck it should be in Watts
Not driving the dynamic mode is a big blank spot in this review. It's so much faster. I like the enthusiasm of the reviewer though.
And not a cod piece in sight.
They used too much high voltage an power for these for that weight an price the range should be much better
"There is a bit of engine braking"
Range Anxiety! It should have had at least 200 miles Range.
Unfortunately 100 miles is what is quoted. Ride safe.
