Don't forget to check out my reading vlogs on Iron Gold and The Hobbit, those were both a blast to film.

I loved the second trilogy even more, if that’s even possible! The Dark Age will rock your world 👏🏻
The fact that he showed what actually happens after the revolution is my favorite part about it…..
I can't wait! I'm so glad you enjoyed it.
Genuinely so delighted to see you having such a blast being back with your faves from Red Rising!! And heeeck yes, Guns of the Dawn is so good, I would love to reread that one day. Also, that quote you read about hope being a little rebellion... that HIT, I love it! Thanks for sharing Tori 🤩
Being back with the Red Rising gang was the BEST. It felt amazing. I'm glad you liked the quote!!!
That curtain of all things are great after the revolution is gonna keep getting jerked back. Awesome month!
I can’t wait. Let’s goooo!
I've had quite a reading month. Kindred and A Man Called Ove both hit me right in the heart-- but in VERY different ways
Oof, I bet! Both of those I've heard are heavy hitters. I'm so glad you enjoyed the reads!
@@ToriTalks2 Kindred is very very heavy. A masterpiece, but very heavy. It's like it's trying to claw its way out of me, begging to be discussed, but I don't even know what to say about it! It's amazing.
A Man Called Ove is more... More full of heart, if that makes sense. It's about the good in humanity, and the beauty of life-- and in general just a picture of a man's life! With all the joy and sorrow that comes with.
Kindred is a haunting examination of humanity, whereas Ove is an extremely uplifting (and often hilarious) one.
Highly recommend both, but boy are they opposite ends of a spectrum
Glad the Hobbit worked out for you, I know how anticipated that was. I absolutely loved Guns of the Dawn, I read it a few days ago actually! I agree it's a great starting place with Tchaikovsky.
I’m so glad you enjoyed it too! Emily is such a strongly written character, I loved it. Thanks for watching!
Thanks for another great buddy read, Tori! Always such a pleasure discussing with you.
Likewise, John!!!
Awesome stuff Tori! Glad you enjoyed the Hobbit, and happy birthday! I hope to eventually listen to all the books with Andy Serkis.
Thanks Chas! Definitely do, he’s incredible.
So happy you had a great experience with The Hobbit. Hope to get to Iron Gold later this month or July, excited to return to Red Rising! 🤘🏼
I hope you have a fantastic time with Iron Gold!
My favorite for may was dungeon crawler Carl.
Every time anyone says, “the 90’s, when I was born,” I die a little. 😫😆
I’m soooo pleased you loved the Hobbit. 😍 Next, on to Tom Bombadil! 😀
I can’t grow up any faster 😂
Haha I will defeat Tom this time, I’m determined.
This is our time, old man 😂
I KNOW! I keep hearing Booktubers saying how the LOTR movies were their childhood and I feel ancient. LOL!
@@ToriTalks2 He's annoying. But push on. Just take it as a pleasant interlude, like a tea party in a garden on a spring day. That's the only way I can manage each time. :)
There is no defeating Tom. Only acceptance. Which leads to love. ♥️😉
I've been reading Shogun since last week of April. Almost done. Red Rising saga is GOAT.
How are you liking Shogun so far?
Glad you enjoyed The Hobbit Tori, looks like May was a good month of reading for you.
May's reading was excellent for me, with my first 5 star book of this year and possible/probable book of the year also.
I read 4 books:
Into The Wild - Jon Krakauer
Morning Star - Pierce Brown
One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest - Ken Kesey
The Easy Life in Kamusari - Shion Miura
and 2 comic books:
Judge Dredd - The Complete Case Files 35
Judge Dredd - The Complete Case Files 36
My book of the month and 5 Star read was: One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest. It is amazing, a must read for everyone.
What a great lineup! I hope you enjoyed them all. Was it your first time reading Morning Star?
I've never read Cuckoo's Nest but I'm getting the impression from a few people now that I definitely should.
@@ToriTalks2 Yep first time reading Morning Star, it was very good, but I did work out the ending with Sevro etc.
Don't wait too long before you read Cuckoo's Nest, it is amazing.
Yay Guns of the Dawn and The Hobbit🎉🎉
I liked your "Phrases" from the poetry book. Never thought of Hope as Rebellion but it fits in an empowering way. I may check out the book sometime.
I had a solid month even if I did not get all books I thought I would complete. Finished "Return to Edan" and really enjoyed the book, which is still making me think some. Favorite book was audio book of "Green Lights" by Matthew McConnaughey, which surprised me with the humor and life insights shared. Getting close to finishing final book of Mistborn Era 1. So I am moving along in reading and life. continue the small rebellions. :)
Thank you so much for watching! I'm glad you had a good reading month!
Overcoming often looks like a series of small rebellions :)
Your Iron Gold mention...."things are not perfect".....oh boy, just wait.
Great month. You make me want to go and read the hobbit again, which I think it's been at least 20 years since I read it last. Just saying Beorn got the blood pumping. That said, slow reading over here, only finished a couple books, but the best was Leviathan Falls, the last book in The Expanse.
Congrats on finishing the Expanse! I'm excited to get to that. Beorn is awesome. :D I hope you enjoy your Hobbit reread, I know I'll definitely be coming back to it.
My favorite book read in May was Cornwell’s The Winter King. I will read the others in the trilogy before too long.
I’ve heard great things about that trilogy!
My favorite books were
Binding 13 by chloe Walsh
Interview with the vampire by Anne rice
City of fire by don Winslow
LOVE Guns of the Dawn! Love it. Hope Tchaikovsky writes that sequel one day. NGL, I'm slowly warming up to picking up Red Rising again.
May was a weird one for me. It was a month of indecisiveness, randomly picking up books and DNFed/NFNed on a whim very quickly. But what I did finish I really enjoyed.
*Epic Fantasy*
Wars of Light & Shadow 1: Curse of the Mistwraith
- I liked it a lot, Lysaer and Arithon are great characters. I did struggle at times, especially in the 2nd half, with the high magic elements, its not a hard magic system but there's a lot at play. The prose is very rich and elaborate but not overly so. I think I'm gonna treat this series like I did Malazan, and read it over the course of a couple of years. Carried over from April.
*Mystery*
Shutter Island / Dennis Lehane
- I'll certainly be reading more Lehane, this was fantastic! Book of the Month!!!
*Sci-Fi*
Warhammer 40k - Gaunt's Ghosts: A Ghost Return (re-read)
- Short story prelude to a much longer series. I'm already a fan of Abentt through his comics, especially Sinister Dexter.
*Steampunk*
Books of Babel 1: Senlin Ascends (re-read)
- Carry over from April.
I had gotten 40% into a re-read of The Blade Itself via audiobook and just wasn't feeling it, I NFNed Robert McCammon's Swan Song and M.L.N Hanover (Daniel Abraham)'s Unclean Spirits for now. And I re-read Part 1 and the first set of Interludes for the Way of Kings.
So far in June I have finished:
*Historical-Fantasy*
Children of Earth & Sky / Guy Gavriel Kay
- Not my favourite GGK so far, but still superb. I'm a huge of fan of Renaissance inspired stories and this did not disappoint, there was a particular character I wanted more of because the dialogue and interactions were just so good but what we did get was fantastic.
As for what I'm currently reading:
*Epic Fantasy*
Wars of Light & Shadow 2: Ships of Merior
*Historical-Fantasy*
A Brightness Long Ago / Guy Gavriel Kay
- Picked it up yesterday immediately after finished Children of Earth & Sky, and already halfway through. I think it might be time to call Kay my favourite Fantasy author? I dunno. He's Top 5 at the least.
*Sci-Fi*
Sun Eater 2: Howling Dark
- On the back-burner for now because ABLA is also in first person, and shorter and cuz I love GGK and feel really bad about not prioritising him in the last year.
You know I'm here for you if you do pick up Red Rising XD I'm hoping once I come back from vacation to do some deep dive videos into the series and talk about character arcs and things, mostly in the first trilogy.
You've got some big reads on that list! Lehane is an author I'd like to read at some point down the road, I have a couple friends who are big fans.
Glad you're loving your GGK reads!
In May I read:
Frankenstein which was a big wonderful surprise of a read.
Perdido Street Station, and easy to read brick of Steampunk.
The Sword Unbound, sequel to The Sword Defiant. D&D without being officially D&D and it was awesome.
The Blighted Stars and I just started it's sequel, The Fractured Dark.
And One Piece though I am only in the 600's.
YES! So happy to see that you enjoyed Frankenstein! I've been very intrigued by Perdido Street Station. I didn't know it was steampunk!
Bring on Dark Age 👀
🔥🔥🔥
7:55 Yes, please DO give us the content warnings! I wanted to read this book, but I'd rather not be surprised by something unsavory! Thank you!
Sure thing! Physical, emotional, and verbal abuse, thoughts of self-harm, blood and injury. Sexual harassment. Humiliation and degradation. Gaslighting.
It is pretty heavy, so definitely go in carefully if you do read it!
@@ToriTalks2 Great! Thank you so much!
Sounds like a great month for you. Any reading plans for June?
Dark Age by Pierce Brown. Some more Pratchett, and I’m almost done with Nomads of the Sea by Coby Zucker!
@ToriTalks2 good luck and happy reading.
I was going to subscribe and then you said poetry and..........I subscribed anyway.
😂😂😂 not a poetry fan? Thanks for the sub!
Revelation Space. Forever War.
Could you let me know the content warnings I guns of the dawn?
Yes of course!
There are two scenes of attempted sexual violence, both thwarted by the victim.
How can people read and listen at the same time? Especially if it's being acted out? I don't think my brain can function that way!
My brain has a hard time with that as well, apparently 😂
I wanted to ask you something privately, but I can’t find you on social media. I saw in one of your videos you were wearing a shirt that said “grace” on it and in this video, your shirt says “faith”. Are you a Christian?
I’m on Twitter and Instagram as well, the links are in my video descriptions! And yes, I am a Christian. 💜
@@ToriTalks2 Ah, video descriptions. 👍🏾👍🏾
