As a former member of the armed forces, I do not blame the current generation for not wanting to join up. When I joined up 34 years ago, we still had a country that was worth defending. This is a problem that will only become worse as time passes because our education system is indoctrinating our children (the declining numbers that are actually being born) into hatred of our country and everything it stands for. At the same time, successive governments have shown a complete lack of concern for the needs and welfare of their native population whilst allowing rampant and uncontrolled legal and illegal immigration to swamp our country and destroy our culture. Then we consider that our armed forces have been totally consumed by wokery and openly discriminate against our indigenous population when recruiting. Am I surprised that they now have a recruitment crisis? Not one bit.

There was some bickering amongst Welsh, Irish, Scots and English but overall they were culturally compatible and assimilated into whatever local area they lived in. Multiculturalism (i.e. you can keep your own culture rather than assimilate) has balkanized western countries to the point people wonder what culture or way-of-life they are supposed to be defending. A bitter tragedy", I am reminded of what the British Raj did to India. That said, I hope this nonsense stops. India today doesn't benefit from the death and destruction of British culture and its replacement by Pakistanis and other similar breeds. On the contrary, it might be harmful to India. So I hope you are able to stop this cultural warfare. The world needs a resurgence of nationalism to defeat the globalist elite.

Having served in a TA & RAF for a total of 24 years I was horrified to find out recently that the standards of military pensions have been severely reduced. I received my pension after serving 22 years so aged 40. It’s not a lot due to my rank when I left but it’s definitely a great help. Apparently that system has now ended & you won’t receive your military pension until aged 60 or 65. This was one of the main incentives, if not to join up certainly to stay in service for 22 years. Add to that the excess workload, the laughable (& illegal in some cases) diversity & equality policy which reduces a meritocracy to a race or gender system of advancement & you’ve got an unworkable & undesirable environment into which you have to recruit from what is a rather sad & overly protected & triggered generation who feel they are owed or deserve everything in life. We are going to have real problems over the next 20-30 years with our military.

@Mr.SLovesTheSacredHeartofJesus There is actually a historical precedent for the situation that we have, although it didn't have a good outcome.
In the years between WW1 and WW2, the French govt massively reduced spending on the military and on the defence of the country. It even prompted one minister to say that the problem was democracy, as the govt was prepared to spend money on any voters that were complaining about anything, but were ignoring the long term necessities for the country, such as being able to defend itself.
Eventually WW2 turned up and the country that didn't spend sufficient money on it's own defence was occupied and split into two parts, while the govt was in exile in the south of England.

I, as an ex Royal Navy serviceman, am totally disgusted with all the politicians. When I joined the service it was not that well paid, but was a vocation. The navy had cat and trap carriers, cruisers, guided missile destroyers, frigates galore, over 50 submarines, 50 plus minesweepers and a good smattering of specialist vessels. Each one of those ships had almost double the crews of modern ships, apart from submarines and crewed by men only, so I am at a loss as to why, with a much larger population and women serving in all roles there is no man/womanpower. The less personnel that are available, puts a strain on the people serving which eventually ends up with those asking, "is it worth my while"? as I can get the same pay, for less stress and a better family life, ending with those leaving, so placing even more strain on those left, a catch 22 position. Politicians need to treat servicemen with respect, pay them well and ensure that their welfare and that of their families are a high priority. Also when leaving the service, veterans should not be just thrown on the scrap heap, which seems to be the norm and has been for decades. Everyone who joins any of the services are willing to put their lives on the line for this country, a fact that these career politicians just don't get. Anyway rant over.

Ever since, successive politicians have cut, cut and cut some more. Even Maggie Thatcher's government, with John Knott, slashed the navy, making the Argentinan's think that we didn't care about the Falkland Islands, hence invasion, hence the Royal Navy was spared for while. However in the past 30 years it has been cut beyond all recognition. I have been based in Rosyth, Chatham, Portland, Plymouth and Portsmouth during my career, now look at it. A total disgrace!!!

the basic training course, which everyone must pass to get in, involved being
able to run a mile and a half in 11 minutes or under, he asked the Petty Officer
training his unit why this was necessary on ships. The answer was that if the ship
was under attack by aircraft, crew must be able to shin up ladders and run across
decks to meet the threat, manning guns and fire stations etc; He asked why the
girls in the group got 13 minutes, the PO just rolled his eyes and said, that's the way
things are son. So, a discipline deemed essential was immediately compromised
by the ludicrous decision to allow women on warships, no wonder nobody wants to join.

Flying the pride flag from the main mast, or projecting the pride flag onto the superstructure of RN warships, does not inspire. Unfortunately, both the Royal Navy and the Royal Air Force have pursued policies that actively discourage young men from wanting to join. The army isn't quite so bad but is gradually going the same way. As General Dannatt has said previously, the MOD has undermined the whole ethos of being a soldier.

Or how indecisive the navy now is, They make plans to go away, then they cancel. put all the guys on leave, 2 days into leave, they are all recalled. told they are shipping out, they all come back, to get back onboard to then be told. no sorry, it is cancelled again. for 6 months the HMS prince of Wales was planned to set sail. to get to the date and nope. cancelled lets go sit in Scotland for 3 more months. then 3 more in the channels docked, to then be told they are all shipping out overseas. for that to then get cancelled yet again.
From what i have heard from my recent new starters that left the navy, they are sick of being messed around. These men have families, and that indecisiveness is messing them all around. if the navy / ship decides they are going, then they should go. unless absolutely necessary to cancel. If the boys are on leave YOU LEAVE THEM ON LEAVE. it is not their fault you failed to have back up units to cover. again, only in the absolute urgency should they ever be recalled. such as a war.

The hard and soft skills I learned in the Army has allowed me to have a happy and successful life. And the self-confidence it gave me has been highly useful. I left the RAF in 1985 after 25 years of service. During that time I saw one defence cut after another. When I first joined the sun never set on RAF air bases. Until 1966, that is, when the Labour government's policy was to withdraw all our military east of Suez and to concentrate on Europe.
There has been defence cuts regularly ever since 1966, which have decimated our forces, except for small scale 'bush' wars. A few years ago, I wrote in another blog post that I believed cutting our forces was deliberate in order to prepare the way for the UK to join an EU army. I believed the politicians would try and justify this by making claims such as 'Britain's defence interests are best served in cooperation with our European allies', or some other such mealy mouthed rhetoric.
It now looks like our treacherous politicians are going to sign the UK up to Europe's Permanent Structured Cooperation (PESCO), which will be the precursor to membership of the nacent EU army.
If they actually do this, it wilk mean we will lose the ability to deploy our forces independently, have a sovereign military equipment manufacturing base and even have our foreign policy dictated by the EU.
That is why I believed and still believe our defence cuts are deliberate and planned managed decline.
