- This is a video of me showing you how I'm growing Honeyberry, also known as Mamoncillo or Spanish Lime, from seeds. Also, I'm sharing with you the things I learned about this tree like how it grows from seeds and the best method to grow it. At the end of this video, you will see the amazing growth within 4 days after making the how-to video. Enjoy!
STARTING Honeyberry from seeds:
I recommend that you use the soil method and not the 'toothpick' method.
Water regularly, but do not over water it.
Make sure that the container has a hole to allow good drainage of excess water.
Expect growth within 2-3 weeks. Depending on the seed, and the right climate, some may grow earlier and some may grow later.
Wonderful video! The "quenepa" tree (that's how it's known in Puerto Rico) is huge and does take years to bear fruit. But it is so worth it! Yummmm. Thank yor for sharing!
Just get a small pot pack it with good dirt and stick your thumb in the middle as far down as you can. Drop whole fruit in and add soil to level off and water once a day or every time the soil is dry. Boom! Tree!
Can we I get an update on those trees? Would love to see them. Thanks for the videos. 💕🌞
Did she ever post an update? Eating them as I type. Would love to see the progress.
evocre8r nothing.
Great video 👍 Thank you very much for sharing this instruction video. It would be nice if you can do a follow up in several months after this video to show the development of the trees.
Puerto Rico they are called Quenepas...I am really puzzled by the description Spanish lime. These fruits are sweet as mangos. I found someone who shows how to grow from seed. But you showed many different ways and best results! Thank You
I am so so so grateful you posted this video, thank you!
If it rooted, the leafing will self orient there’s no need to change its positioning. 😘👌🏾Good job on germination, I think I would go for a x2 deeper pot as they appear to have very long tap roots.
Nice video. I really love limoncillos.
We called them genips😎
Awesome 👏 video. I have a few seeds that I’m going to plant. Love the seed within the shell method.
Funny story so I was trying to grow my Kanepa today by soaking it in water lol 😂
Thank you I know better now
Any updates on these? Great video thank you
Thank you so much! This is really good information. Can you describe your climate, or give your location? Also - were the seeds fresh? Thank you for experimenting for all of us to learn!
I learned a lot from you planting seeds, thk
I love your experiments, thank you for sharing
What does the fruit look like now, did the fruit live?
@Compn1 It does have a nice taste to it. And crazy that the nut is much bigger than the edible fruit!
Lol at its swimming 3:42
@MyInspiredCreation hahahaha i knew thats what u were thinking, too funny! lol
I grew up eating the fruit and still crave it ...when it gets a little darker the skin they become sweet but the greener you get them the more sour ...any one knows where or who would sell a plant trimming? I want less years to wait :)
@MrNativeDancer Hi! Mamoncillo grows in tropical - sub tropical regions. I think the one you are referring to is different from the one I have growing. The blue honeyberry that you are talking about grows in a much colder, northern region; while the mamoncillo (green color) grows in a warm, southern region. I hope to taste the blue honeyberries one day. :)
I just accidentally bought a mamoncillo I live in Ohio. It’s just a baby rn. Do you think I’ll still be able to grow in a pot indoor?
I have always loved this fruit. I enjoyed your video and now I'm in the search for the seeds. If you know where I can get some, pls. let me know. Thx.
@Compn1 Your welcome and thanks for watching+commenting.
It does look like it's going to be growing fast now that the stem has poked out. This is a busy transplanting month for me XD.
And How is it doing now?
It does cut down on the waiting years Jan and you will be able to enjoy fruits
How often are you watering them?
How is the Spanish lime coming along?
Boy oh boy you've got a green thumb : )
I heard you need a male and female tree how do you know if you get either from seed ?
Is it remotely possible to overwinter these indoors in a big south-facing window? I live in Connecticut, and my guy's family just sent us a care package of these from their backyard tree in Puerto Rico. I'm not expecting to ever get fruit, but I really want to try to grow them!
Did you try it out? Over-wintering & possible fruit production?
How’s the tree now
Do you use the seed that's on the fruit.....if that makes sense lol
What soil do you recommend?
thank you
what soil do you use?
Can it grow in high desert
HOW MUCH IT TOOK TO GROW THE ROOT
@GardenNewbie Omg, that's the first thing came to mind when I saw it...Silly minds think alike. XD !
Quenepas?
please let us know with part 2
@5Language Ummmmm, I plead the 5th!!!! LOL
Wow, was that a sperm joke lol 3:36!
Lol
no entiendo el video pero ok
jajjajjajja te entiendo

Also known as quenepas
You just have to burried them in the soil and they sprout right up. No need for all the of she's going through.
Not to burst your bubble, but you'll probably be walking with a cane before that actually bares any fruit. lol There are several other names for them; in Trinidad and Tobago, it's called Chenettes, and in Guyana, it's called Guinep.
No entiendo
Alguien ke me tradusca....? Ke mal solo hablar un idioma.
I want make this, but I speak spanish, and not inglish xddd, no, encerio :'v
🇵🇷= QUENEPAS
Nice sperm plant, hahaha :P
i ate a quenepa and it still germinated without me doing anything to the fruit coating.
Hi !!!
Why do place the mamoncillo seed on top of the soil?? Is it better to do it that way??
What type of soil did you use?
