  • Gurkha soldiers and their families are moving into new quarters and flats, all paid for by the Sultan of Brunei.
Married families have already moved into the new flats, which have been designed in accordance with the standards the Sultan sets for his Bruneian Army. Each comprise en-suite bathrooms, large living room, kitchen and bedrooms.
Although hundreds of flats have already been built, construction works is still ongoing, with the aim to improve all existing quarters so that married personnel can bring over their families from Nepal.
It is not just the married personnel who are reaping the benefits. Single soldiers are also receiving new living-in accommodation, which are large and have either one or two man rooms, and is a vast improvement on the current accommodation.
Soldier from the 2nd Battalion the Royal Gurkha Rifles will move into the flats for the first time when they swap with 1 RGR on an Arms-Plot move at the end of July.
The overseas Garrison also boasts creature comforts such as radio and TV packages, a local shop, a busy community centre and an excellent school, which is rated as one of the best in the Service community.
