1972, San Francisco, I was having lunch sitting on the wall, watching a street musician. A stylishly dressed black man with a NYC kinda hat walked up to me and asked about the music 🎶. I guarded my salad, thinking he was hitting on me for something... turns out, he invited me to a music concert that night. But I was told it wasn’t a date for us- he was the drummer for Ahmad Jamal. Yes. I went. Alone. What a windfall. ❤️🥰
Waah
There's still gentleman & ladies of dignity & integrity n our society that just want 2 share a beautiful experience without physical contact. Man wish I could've been there never saw him n concert.
Great story 🙏
The tears in Yusef eyes at the end... the man is honoring us with the gift of his soul !!!
Absolutely heartwrenching!! to two Giants who left us. RIP Mr. Yusef, and Mr. Ahmad Jamal
I would've passed out had I been in attendance... what an experience.
I never saw Jamal and Lateef together. Eternally wow!! Thank you 🙏🏽
RIEP Maestro Ahmad Jamal, 4/16/23. Jammin' again with Yusef Lateef. Two of my greatest influences! I am blessed to have heard you both perform live and meet you after. Deepest condolences to the family circle. Asé asé 🙏🏼❤️👏🏼🫶🕊🎶🎹🔥🌎
Two giants in jazz and world sounds. Lived long lives and left distinguished legacies behind including this collaboration.
'Music is a universal language. It's a form of communication that transcends space and time, touching the hearts of people worldwide. With just one note, a shred of hope, happiness and even sadness can be transmitted from one soul to the next. ... When words aren't enough, music helps you communicate unexplainable emotions.'

Masters, at all levels...Thanks.
instablaster...
'As far as musics go, jazz is relatively complex; there are many musical, technical, intellectual, and emotional elements happening simultaneously... Jazz makes far more demands on the listener than do most popular styles which are fundamentally simpler than jazz, requiring less from the listener.'

For me it was the Golden AIR AGE
of Music. Jazz transported me, us into The Age of AQUARIUS before the actual Age arrived.

You know. I met Mr Lateef in 2009, Harringsonburg PA. Was with Ahmadiyya muslims from STL. One told of the horrific stories about how M Lateef family just through much of his works away. This hate by his family truly hurt him. I ask him on the second day,as we sat next to each other again. I did'nt know him. Told him of what I heard. He gave a blank lookThey wouldnt leave him alone, mostly India people. End up taking some pictures together, promised copy, never got.

'Music is also a bridge between cultural heritages and different backgrounds. It erases the line that defines all borders and allows a group of distinct people feel the same thing at the same time.'

'The music of African Americans can be traced back to the days of slavery. In the fields as slaves were working you could hear them singing songs to pass the time. ... As slaves became Christians, a religion forced upon them, they began singing hymns later termed spirituals'

'Gospel music utilizes straight rhythms, while jazz uses swing rhythms instead. Gospel music incorporates chord structures and progressions corresponding to a melody, while jazz pushes further into more adventurous harmonic, melodic, and modal expressions.'
