I've seen many Robert de niro's films over the years, He's done 7 or 8 masterpieces at least, I can tell you this is his best film , my favorite Deniro's film, it's trully a masterpiece in every respect !! I'd put on my liste of the 5 best films ever, with the Godfather ,Citizen kane, Shindler's List , Shawshenk Redemption ..!!!
I can say that I am one of the lucky ones, having to watch the Director's cut without having to see the "bastardized" version (to quote William Forsythe in another interview) first! What a movie, a masterpiece!!!
I think 'Once Upon A Time In America,' 'The Good the Bad and the Ugly,' and 'Once Upon A Time In The West,' are his masterpieces! 'America' is the culmination of his lifes work! It's such an amazing experience to get 'lost' in film as if in a dreamscape! Combine that with Morricone's kick-ass music, and it's material for the gods!

What they did to this movie way back in 1984 was a crime. Had they not have done it, Leone and Morricone would have gotten the respect they deserved, probably would have even won best picture, best director, and best musical score. What a shame. Probably worst decision in cinema history.
How art can be fkd’ over by accountants should have been Sergio’s final film. There needs to be a documentary about the entire story, hopefully, one day.
There is one. There is 4 different pieces about 30 mins long about Leone, they overlap but are well worth a look. I used to have them on my old VHS tapes, long gone. I would check out Christopher Frayling first, his biography of Sergio is by far the best.

12 Times is nothing. Every time you see the movie you Discover something new and you realise how briljant IT is.
