So basically the same story as the rest of the area. The people who grew up in the area are priced out of the communities they grew up in because every house gets bid on way past its actual value and you end up with locals having grown up literally not being able to afford to live in their home towns. What’s even better is how a significant portion of these homes aren’t even lived in the majority of the year and/or used and rentals/air BNB’s. Even in your basic neighborhood houses are selling for 100-150k more than they’re actually worth, forcing ppl out of their home towns.
Not always. Ww bought here 12 years ago. 9+ acres, heavily wooded, smaller home, though it looks huge 4 floors & a small loft, less than $200k. 33 miles to the ferry to Seattle. Takes no longer to reach Seattle than from the suburb drivers sitting in traffic.
Looked forward to this video. Been to Port Townsend and have visited as recently as August 2022. Someday would love to live there. Stayed at the Starrett House when we visited. There are many unique homes and neighborhoods. I have passed by the Castle before. Thanks for sharing!
Did you show the beat up old RV's on the back streets? The town shuts down at 6:00pm and it gets dark at 4:00pm in the winter months. Don't fret there is a suicide hotline. Bring your coat and hat the wind howls off the water and it is wet and cold out there. The average age is old to very old, so no night life here, no employment unless you are a good dishwasher. The best part of living here is the police log in the local paper. The homeless and the crazies never fail to entertain.
Dont forget that the locals have a bad case of verbal diarrhea. They say what ever the hell they like to a person and not even ask. I get educated so much, probably bevause of my out of state accent. Its very cliquie. Youll see 😂
What a great perspective on these neighborhoods! It's going to be a tough choice when I am finally able to start looking at relocation. My only fear is that there will be little to no buildable lots available. Hoping for the best, planning to try and adapt.
Lynette, great to hear from you. Happy 1 year anniversary! I am still learning this YOuTube thing. So I only saw your comment just now. I trust you and Jim are doing well. Let's connect soon. I'll reach out via email.
@@KE-ew1ubnothing available to rent in area that isn't outrageous? Papermill company willing to relocate me from South Carolina to work, but wages aren't much different, yet cost of living is outrageous out there. Only thing that'd bring me out there is my 7 year old son is in Seattle.
Hmmm. The Manresa Castle was never a castle. It was just big enough and fancy enough that people started referring to it as "the Eisenbeis castle" after its wealthy owner. The Jesuits owned it for over 40 years and gave it the Manresa name, but it was still "the castle" to the locals. It was originally brick, but the Jesuits made it larger and stuccoed over the brick.
I moved here 3 years ago to escape wildfires in Nor Cal and found it to be a delightful place to live. Like other desirable places it has a serious housing shortage, so much so that ordinary wage earners can't afford to buy or rent here. Teachers, health care workers and others are in short supply because workers can't find affordable housing. I find the idea of a realtor encouraging more people to move here and further bid up the prices of existing housing (bigger commissions for them) to be disgusting. Maybe you should get a real job.
There are parks for RV camping. Just at the end of Water Street in downtown there is a marina. Between the marina and the beach there are spaces to rent for visiting travelers.

We have the same problem on Cape Cod. I'm so tired of rich jerks from the city. Hope I'm not delusional in thinking PT will be better.

Cape George could've been named for English Captain George Vancouver who landed in Discovery Bay when he explored and discovered the area.
Excellent video!!

Thanks for watching. Much appreciated.
What about the bad smell from the paper mill? How bad can it get? It can cause headaches and respiratory problems.
I mention the pulp mill in my pros and cons video. If you live in the area, you are likely to get a whiff of it now and then.
Like a nice juicy fart. It is that bad.
@@GinnyEricksonThanks
Is the Growler noise and the smell from the paper mill lower in Cape George?

I’m looking to relocate. This is a gorgeous place. Are there any horse properties?
its so uncanny watching tour videos of towns i know
"hey this reminds me of somethi- oh right. i lived here."
Right?!
Port Townsend...Where old people come to visit their parents
i’m loving in salt lake and want to move to port townsend. how much would rent be for a studio apartment or small place to live
The range varies depending on size, location, and condition. But expect between $800 - $1800. Hope this helps. Thank you for watching.
@@GinnyErickson You can't get anything for $800 except maybe a room if you're lucky. There are hardly any rentals and too many people looking.
