UPDATE: One of my birds that I had shipped back from a futurity race at the end of the season came back with a very bad case of mites, feather lice and louse flies. I made a bucket with 5 tablespoons of borax to about 4.5 gallons of water and dipped the pigeon in the solution every other day for a total of 4 treatments then kept her isolated in a separate cage for a while. And just incase, I dipped all my other birds once in the solution. After about a week, all the parasites began falling off and soon they were all gone. It has been 6 months since then and I haven't seen any sign of those parasites in any of my birds.

This video is oddly so relaxing for some reason. I think its the way he is calm and explaining it in process, every step of the way with a soothing voice lmao I love this video! I think I like the fact that in order to get rid of the lice in that pigeons feather, even the sun was contributing to it lol (warming up the water)

The borax dries & cracks the exoskeleton of the lice & mites making it impossible for them to maintain any fluids or moisture dehydrating & killing them. Soapy water applied to the feathers will work as well.

Just buy a pyrethroid based insecticide. It's way easier, faster and very effective againts all sort of bugs. It's safe for birds, they have good resistance againts pyrethroids.

Those parasites that live inside the quills and that eats the keratin out the feathers. They are so hard to reach.. I have an Indian fan tailed pigeon and I saw a few mites on his tail, wing feathers
Fantail eps have a LOT of feathers
He is currently 4 months, is it safe to use salt on him
And, does this bath kill fleas
And he sheds feathers a bit, is it normal?
And when he scratches himself( when he had mites) small white translucent plastic like material falls out,is this normal
He is an indoor pet and is allowed to roam freely in the house
Has no contact with any animals except humans but is allowed out of the house(in the garden) a few times.
    He gets lots of love
Is it okay to keep him indoor and if so I fear that he got mites outside so should I not allow him to go out.

Their lice, like other animal's lice, have specially evolved with their host species for millions of years and have special arms that latch on to their host's specific hairs and feathers, so they're exclusive to their species, and you can't catch them.
