The designation of an avenue with the name of "City of Sarasota", during the government of President Juan Bosch, was preceded by effusive encounters, trips, visits by Dominicans to that beautiful place in Florida and by notable townspeople from there who came to Santo Domingo "with the bells of a new coat of arms of the Sister City".
An idea of ​​the former American President Dwight D. Eisenhower was being implemented, who in 1956 summoned civic and business leaders from the hemisphere to propose a massive program of communication between the people of the United States of America and that of other lands in order to establish "a better understanding between peoples, create friends, preserve peace." The program was called "Sister Cities". Sarasota was chosen by the Dominicans to exchange culture, cooperation plans and mutual support. It was the "Twin City" of the Dominican capital.
