    Nusantara archipelago has a myriad of martial arts. On the other hand, it also has a beauty, where people live with nature long time ago, and to be careful because nature holds death behind its beauty. That's why sometimes it called "the art of killing with beauty"

    What so dangerous about Silat is that the bigger you are , the bigger the target reference point to take you down. See how he is poking at certain joint spot in some of the clips? It only takes a one firm finger poke to disable the limb.

    His stance, flow and technique are definitely an intrinsic "subset" of Pencak Silat.
    His entry, handling and exits are classical Silat flows and are a pleasure to view.
    However, Pencak is a much more broad aspect.

    Just a minor correct: Pencak Silat refers to the Indonesian expression Silat. SSBD is Bruneian, not Indonesian and so technically isn’t pencak Silat.

    I don't know about Maul Mornie man. Very skilled, sure, couldn't agree more. But how can i trust a system developed to have such a boxy - telegraphed stepping which allow such exotic combinations?
    I comprehend the nature of demos and drilling as well, but it's years we see the same premade, self opening steps, specially from his students.
    I like so much the hands work and all though.

    • @zshakur
      @zshakur Před rokem +2

      Most of his clips come from seminars so he's speaking on specific scenarios and the "most likely" attack you'd see in that scenario. It may look rehearsed, but it's truly not. Yes, the attack is pre-determined, but that's for clarity of instruction and safety of the training partner. I do not doubt for one second his combat effectiveness in a "REAL LIFE" situation.

      Cos it doesn't work - like all the Kali empty hand against knife - you NEVER see it sparring - cos u can't do it.

    • @Ytterdahls
      @Ytterdahls Před 10 měsíci

      @@gunnerhiro394you train differently for different things. A lot of kali drills are sensibility training. They will work better if it hasn’t developed into a fight yet. If you’re stopping someone before he is aware you’re actually defending yourself.
      Many of the drills can be great as supplementary training for that. But should add some aliveness to it, like “inside fighting” channel talks about a whole lot. If it’s a man vs man fight and both are prepared for it, then there’s other parts of the martial art that will be used. If you give a stick, knife, baton or any short to mid length sharp or hard object, he’ll do better than most. Especially if actually training it a lot.

      you must take a look at Jesse Enkamp last video with Maul Mornie where you can see how Maul Mornie throws his punches to create a specific counter which allows him to terminate his opponent easily. Same external body form as shown in the public demo. Jesse isn't a Silat practitioner and had no clues about how to drill with Maul Mornie. The drill came out very smooth since the attacks didn't allow Jesse Enkamp to evade but to block in a specific way which, unfortunately for him, made him vulnerable and off balance. Drilling makes you able to react naturally to a certain stimulus and teaches you how to manipulate your partner. When times come to spare or fight, you can deal with a no cooperative opponent.

      @@madjidchouarbi3921It’s been awhile since I’ve watched Maul’s videos, so when I saw that dude’s video with him like 20min ago, I clicked ASAP. I love his fight IQ and mentality. His teachings are very realistic. In one seminar video on Maul’s channel he explains to the students that Silat is meant to end the fight quickly in as little steps as possible. When he follows through with a combo, it’s meant to show ‘options’ from that specific manipulation. The whole combo isn’t the emphasis, but what he does to get to that point. Like he said in that guy’s video, ‘That’s for seminar training because it looks nice. Not for an actual fight.’ Just that video alone is 10min but explains how he fights to a T and the mentality behind it. Such a beautiful style it is

      Yet it's been used in real life combat by those who aren't dumb enough to think sports fighting is real combat.
      Martial arts fall into three stages with sports at the bottom.
      This supposedly unrealistic stuff has been used primarily in the top two stages.
      You're the first generation that had to have this explained to them.
      That's the truly mind boggling thing

      ...It Suffian Bela Siri, the Royal Silat of the Bruneians.
      Pencak Silat is more Indonesia and Malaysia but Suffian Bela Siri was the Silat used by the Royal Guards and Royals of the Nusantara Archipelago.
      It's why they don't have many ground strikes and sweeps...because the royals lived on houses on water, with narrow walk ways from stilts.
