- Ever wonder why we do the 3 part drill? Need to see it modeled? I got you! The Three Part Drill consists of the following; visual, auditory/kinesthetic, and blending. The drill is a review of all skills students know or have been taught. In this video I break down the importance of each part and I model them with a small group comprised of 3rd grade tier 3 students. As always, I have notes because I didn't want to forget anything so please excuse the looking down. Remember to like + comment with any feedback, questions or any other tips you’d like to share. I just learned my son has dsylexia, he will be going into 2nd grade in the fall. They have a teacher training in dyslexic curriculum programs orton-Gilliam, but it is not looking like he will get that teacher and I did request her. He does have an iep. Thank you for this video, I am definitely not an educator but I will help my son to learn how to read if the school isnt!°
I’m new to OG and it’s great to see in action. Training was great but it was A LOT lol. I love seeing real teachers modeling what a lesson looks like. Thank you!
I know exactly what you mean! I felt the same way when I first started. Thanks for watching!
Extremely Helpful!!!Thanks a BUNCH❤
This is really good video. Great Job.
Great Work! Please be sure when pronouncing the consonant sounds like (b,d,w) we don’t add the extra uh sound to it- it’s /b/ not /b*uh*/
Example @4:41 Often times it is hard for us to hear it, and depending on where you are from is habit, however it makes all the difference for many students when they work decoding words that they are connecting the correct sound and not adding the extra (uh) at the end.
I love your teaching style!
Wow, thank you!
I have been loving your content! I am currently an intervention reading teacher for 3rd and 2nd graders. I first began teaching 2nd for 2 years and then switched to intervention and love it. Thank you for showing this! I had a quick question about your position title and if at your school you need your credential for intervention. I currently love what I do but I am no longer salaried or full time so I’m beginning to feel like I might have to leave:( I’ve looked for other intervention positions but in LAUSD I don’t really see that it’s a position at most schools. Just curious how it is at your school and how you went about finding your current position now💛
Intervention is where it’s at! Lol fortunately for me, academic interventionist is a salaried position in my district. I was invited to interview for the position a few years ago by an admin I had previously worked with. Keep looking! There are positions available and if you’re close to MI, we could always use some more great people 😊
Where did you get your blending board? Thanks for an awesome lesson 🙂
Thanks for watching! All of my materials are from Brainspring
Hi! Loved this video, you have a new subscriber! I am new to OG, and I am trying to figure out how to write a lesson plan for this beginning with concept 1, letter M. Do you write your own plans, or go by the one provided in the books and website?
Thanks for subbing! I use the provided materials as a guide, but I also include what I know my students really need
Hi, I enjoyed your lesson, Dani. Your blending board looks like it has a second display panel behind the front one where you display letters for the students. I like how easily you could move the cards smoothly. Did you purchase it like that or did you modify one that had just the one panel. I have searched the internet and have not found what you have but would like on for this school year.
Hi! Thank you very much. The blending board I use is from brainspring. It’s already designed in that way.
Love, love, love your way teaching, I also know that you have replied several times letting everyone know that you’ve gotten your stuff from brain spring. However, I have tried numerous times to go onto the screen, spring thingy and it’s either not allowing me or I’m not doing it right can you please direct me exactly how to order.
Thank you very much! Try this link. It should go directly to their store page where you can order materials. Hope this helps! brainspring.com/phonics-first-grades-k-5/
