I keep on forgetting that toy story was made in '95. The only thing that really gives that away are the absolute nightmare fuel that are the human models.
Some characters' facial animations look odd a few times, particularly whenever they get surprised, plus a few backgrounds, particularly at the gas station, seem a bit empty. Despite that, that movie still generally looks great to me and is a relic in CGI. It's astounding how _Toy Story 2_ was an improvement despite production issues.
Something that I always look for in the evolution of anything is if it was around during the Beatles lifetime- 1962-1970. Always puts things into perspective as to how old yet innovative some things were
For some reason, Polar Express no longer looks uncannily realistic because of how old it is. It's just... weird Edit: What I meant was that the Polar Express no longer looks weird for the same reasons it did back in 2004, I'm not saying it looks any less creepy

We are so close to complete realism that I think we will reach that point way before 2050, I think the real impressive thing will be how live video games will eventually be able to produce this level of quality, even now with the new console and pc hardware gen, it is getting really impressive, just consider how it took some of these early cgi things months to render, while now it is rendering at 30-60 fps
Games like red dead redemption 2 are already exceptional when it comes to 3D graphical matters. Depending on which media we are viewing in the future, we might not have such a different opinion. There is a limit to realism, and the limit is reality. As we progress in our technological fields, we get closer to a peak, and once we reach that peak, it’s all been done.

I think there are two main reasons why people don't like today's CGI. 1: An over-reliance on the medium has caused it to lose its magic. Nowadays, no one will ask "how did they do that?" when they watch a scene in a movie. 2: No one's innovating on the technology anymore (at least not many filmmakers are). As soon as CGI became realistic, we've hit a plateau.
