  • This week, we do some maintenance on the Winnebago Revel 4x4 van, meet with old friends who live the vanlife, from Alaska, catch some Halibut with Miller's Landing and continue North to Anchorage, Alaska. Our first 6 days of this journey has had a lot of surprises but we have many more surprises to come. From illness, to forest fires, roadside repairs, Instantpot Inspirations, and friendships. We almost gave up on this trip continuing. Come to Alaska they said... It will be fun they said... We join Miller's Alaska and do a Halibut Fishing Trip before continuing on for the Midnight Sun Meetup Adventure!

We were hiding behind the couch from the scary music!! Great haul on the fish!

Seeing the battery swap in the middle of the river left me thinking one word. Convoluted. Leave it to the Germans to over engineer things to the point of unnecessary complication. Using pliers as a hammer is always a good technique, though one must not overlook the Vice Grip for its utility as well. And absolutely no electrical project is complete without seeing sparks at least once. The lightning likes jumping out of the Lightning Cube every chance it gets. Springing a leak during a job is also not only par for the course, it's expected for after-hours storytelling.
As always, Jim's InstaPot Inspiration looks fantastic! He's quite the Exploratory Chef and has yet to make something that doesn't look delicious...inclusion of vegetables notwithstanding. I'll feed my vegetables to the Bison, and then eat the Bison.
Hearing Cynthia use the words, "came with a heavy price" is the equivalent to the literary, "little did they know". I also laughed at the 4:54 comment and how some people consider 5am to be 5am. Being a Veteran, the standing rule is 15-minutes early is "on time", 30-minutes is better. Seeing the reversed waterfall was a nice touch, given my love of waterfalls. The weather on the day of the fishing trip reminded me a lot of the Seattle area in the winter. It's one of the few things I miss about that region. I miss the "dreary" weather that never once felt dreary to me.
I loved hearing the safety briefing because so many times all of that stuff isn't talked about and it's really important for every person on a boat to know just incase the people running the boat become incapacitated. Getting to see fish being hauled in was rather impressive. I can only imagine what an incredible experience that was for you all. I laughed a little at your comment, "the roughest ocean I have ever endured". The roughest ocean I've ever endured was crossing from Spain to Morocco at the Strait of Gibraltar. Waves so big they came over the bow and standing was an exercise in futility. I was the only member of my team that didn't get sick at all, in fact, I was laughing at "God's Rollercoaster". Anyway, the fish stuck in the halibut's mouth for the picture at the end of the trip was hilarious!
Your inclusion of the tense music during the river crossing as you started to push to Anchorage lead me to wonder if one of the vans was going to tip over on its side as they were making their way across. Having seen two vans on their side in my life, albeit not in the middle of a river, it's one of those things that makes your head hurt a bit. Like, HOW did it get like that?!?! I also have to admit that the Rigg Gear waterproof backpack you have looks really cool. I might just have to get one. Anyway, all that dramatic music in this video and nothing happened! No tree across the road that you have to pull out of the way with your winch, no guy who drove off the road and had his RV tip over like last year, and not even a case of, "Yeah...I locked my keys in the van.". It was like waiting for a jumpscare in a movie that never came. 😂
Thanks for sharing this video of you all out having fun!

Patrick's battery change out had to have been planned to have done it in the middle of a river! Wondering why it was needed? His van appeared to have been less than six years old.
Jim, another good looking dish you cooked up. You know I am writing all of these down!

Hi John. His battery was having issues holding a charge. He wanted to do it before we headed north so it was the perfect amount of down time to knock it out and learn. They have a 2020. Hope you are doing well!

We have been watching you from your van pick up in Oregon. Your stories are great. We also watch a channel called travels of red rover, episode: Outstanding Helicopter trip Kenai Fjords National park. they are photographers, that also travel in a van.
They were in Valdez, and the did a helicopter flight and got your group gathering on the river.
thought you might like to see it.
Will be watching your new tour.
Our van is being built out in Loveland, CO hope to see you on the road next summer.

Loved the video! Wish we could have run into you when we were there in August and September . We do not have a Revel but a Cirrus camper on a 3500 dually. We absolutely loved Alaska. We too went halibut fishing but in Homer.😊

I find the sauté function is weak on the insta-pot. To avoid doing batches (and extra dishes), I brown a third of the meat first getting it good and brown with those brown bits stuck to the bottom, then add the rest of the meat. All the liquid that comes from the added meat deglazes the bottom and think you’d be happy with the results.

Live confidently and peacefully. (Ps. Say hi to the doggies for me, eventhough they have no idea who I am lol)

Thank you for your video, as always, really enjoyed it. Believe it or not, this one inspired me to take up a probably 3000 mile solo drive in my SUV and come see Alaska. Question, is there a month of the year you would recommend for that Journey from the US thru Canada to Alaska? A balance between restaurants and business being open, temperate weather so the drive is not treacherous and too risky :) Thank you in advance!

Love your videos. However the music on this episode made it sound like a suspense horror film. A little weird for me.
