DRGW SD40T-2 [Sound Demo] (Athearn) Review

Today I review an EMD SD40T-2 locomotive from Athearn. The locomotive is DRGW #5413 and is painted in the DRGW's "Speed Lettering" paint scheme. Please keep in mind that I am not an expert in reviewing model trains and if I miss some features or seem that I am rushing through the review, I do apologize. 7:52 Dynamic brake vent (shoebox vent). Brake fans sit above exhaust and bearings in fans were overheating. EMD added insulated structure with ductwork to cool the bearings. Cooling air enters from the sides and exits through the roof vent.

I'm interested in the classic era D&RGW SD40T-2's which were released very recently. The one you have looks like a late era SD40T-2's.

Yes. You are correct. My SD40T-2's are the versions from the 1990s.

Do these have the multi colored side lights like Scale trains version? Or do those not work at all? The ones on either side of the gyro? Really wanted a Scale Trains version but I cannot find one for sale.

@@jasonworden8209 On this model, the class lights do not light up and are actually plated over. By the 1990s, both class lights and gyro lights were becoming obsolete as the railroads realized that ditch lights were easier and cheaper to maintain and repair.

Nice!!! First thing to do with a Athearn Locomotive, is turn the sound wayyyyy down!! My goodness, they are always too loud out of the box.
