The tiara that the Duchess of Edinburgh wore is called the Papyrus Tiara and does in fact belong to King Charles III. However, in the normal course of events, his wife, Queen Camilla, is probably in charge of the royal jewelry collection and since she is the most senior royal lady she gets first pick. Catherine, Princess of Wales is second, the Princess Royal is third and the Duchess of Edinburgh is fourth, this is the order of seniority. Interestingly, if Harry and Meghan had stayed as working royals, Meghan would have been third to choose with everyone moving down a place. The royal duchesses and princesses of the family usually wear their own tiaras, as was done in years past, those ladies being Princess Alexandra, the Duchesses of Kent and Gloucester and Princess Michael of Kent. It’s too bad that Meghan turned out to be such a bad apple, she could have worn some fabulous jewels and been a real asset to the Firm as a biracial royal duchess and her daughter, Lilibet, would have grown up to appreciate and participate in her uncle William’s reign and contribute to whatever career she wanted to, and, be able to wear wonderful and historic jewels herself one day. Alas, that was not to be, at least at this time, but there is always room for a miracle I say! I pray that Harry comes to his senses, apologizes for blotting his copybook so badly, divorces ( Or not) his wife Meghan, returns to the UK and brings his half-British and half-American children with him and cleans up his act and turns his life around. Perhaps a stint in rehab and counseling by the Archbishop would help? There may be no way to restore his relationship with his brother but I’m sure the King would like to reconnect with the prodigal son. I believe that King Charles’ best action would be to order that the children be returned to England, which he has the power to do, set them up at a house in Windsor with Harry, and Meghan if she’ll come, and start the process of allowing them to become real royal children and have relationships with Harry’s family and friends. They could attend pre-school and school, get fine religious instruction that is age appropriate, make friends and learn how to properly behave in high society and learn what is expected of them in their proper positions that they were born into. But I digress. I do believe that the Duchess of Edinburgh wore this particular tiara as a show of support, or a nod to, the Princess of Wales who could not attend the banquet for health reasons, and Sophie looked stunning in the tiara and the pear drop diamond demi-parure that the late Queen Elizabeth II received from the Saudi king.

Catherine wore that tiara as a Duchess but now she’s the future Queen she will be using other tiaras in agreement with Charles, one can presume that the said tiara is available to Duchesses only. Camilla has first choice as Queen, then Cate, Sophie is third in line with Anne fifth, all of the Tiara’s are possessed by the Crown and have to be requested of the reigning monarch. Meghan was offered a choice from 6 tiaras by the Queen whereas the Queen herself had a new tiara made for Fergie on marrying Andrew it was her wedding present so that tiara doesn’t belong to the Crown Jewels,however she has lent it to her daughters on certain occasions.
