  • With the Passover season fast approaching I thought it would be a good time to explore something Christ said to His disciples at the Last Supper: “if you don’t have a sword, “sell your cloak and buy one”, This quote seems to be contradictory to His character and teachings, but could this be because we’ve misunderstood the true meaning behind it. In this video we look at the impact of having a sword and why Christ said two swords was enough.

The best explanation and the only one I've seen on CZcams concerning Jesus' statement, it is enough, when talking about the two swords.
    Thank you.

I don’t know what’s right but Exodus 22:2 clearly states what it says and Jesus said buy swords. I don’t think if you killed someone in self defense you’d go to hell that’s just my opinion.

I agree, I don't believe we would be condemned if we took a life in self defense. But look at how Christ defended Himself. But the Apostles weren't going out to defend themselves, they were going out as transgressors, and to establish that matter there needed to be at least two. Thank you for you comment and support, Blessings!

David didn’t need a sword or body armor to kill Goliath.
He was a simple shepherd that trained to defend his flock.
Five stones, a sling, and faith in the Lord is all David needed.
In fact, scripture tells us he connected with the first stone!
I believe God wants us to defend from evil.

I believe the Father will always love His children and to take a life in self defense will not change that. The focus of this teaching is to understand whether we should arm ourselves with weapons of war, or to trust in the Father to provide our security and protection. Fore example, Christ didn't fight against those who wanted to persecute Him, He allowed the Father to make a way for Him to escape them like He did in Luke 4:28-30. Blessings!

@@twenty-fivethirty-six3946 could you explain why people from Abraham to King David were allowed to use the sword? Along with most of the people in the old testament. They weren't lead by Satan. I have also heard that the when Christ say thou shall not kill it actually translates to thou shall not murder. How their is a big difference between murder and killing.

@@stevetownley5480 that's a great question. The short answer why Abraham through David were allowed to use the sword was they were commissioned by the Father in a "holy" war to destroy evil and build His Kingdom on earth (Deuteronomy 20:16). Yes, I agree with your point that a better translation would be "thou shall not murder". Blessings!

Wouldn't it be more like, you don't aim to kill but aim to make them too weak(disarm) to hurt you/whoever.
