    On the topic of parents and not liking the poly course you're in, DO NOT LET YOUR PARENTS CHOOSE YOUR COURSE FOR POLY!

    While going to an open house gives an idea of what a poly's course offering is like. Always keep in mind that poly is still a BUSINESS. They are there to sell you their courses. The course description can look damn zai and full of prospects, but once u enter, u'll realize its different. Advise is to speak to current students/Alumni. Get to know people. Ask them how its really like.
    If within the 1st sem you decide its not for you, APPEAL to change course. Dont wait. The earlier you change course, the less time u waste. While some have to repeat a Sem, if you appeal early enough, one might not have to repeat/restart a Sem. Just take more modules per Sem (for future semesters). (may not be applicable to all POlys, but find out and act fast. its your life/time you are wasting)
    Dont always need 3.9-4.0 to enter uni one. =D
    Lastly, dont forget NIE as a "Uni" option.

    It doesn’t really matter where you study but what you study. Take up a course that makes you employable for the forseeable future ie IT, cybersecurity, coding, robotics, green energy, urban agriculture, nursing, radiography, physiotherapy etc. Certain certifications are also more valueable & marketable than a degree. For eg a certified welder or liscenced electrical technician is highly sought after in the workforce.
    Don’t fret over your school or course of study as at the end of the day a foreigner from an unheard of uni like Anamalai Tech is more employable than a local grad from NUS/NTU.
    At the same time learn how to earn a passive income. Remember we are all just values to a company & our value depreciates over time. Before you know it, you’re in your 40s & told your position is redundant, at a time where you have a mortgage, bills to pay & mouths to feed. Don’t be dependant on just one source of income. & remember kids, to invest in good medical insurance policies the moment you start earning your first salary.

      But keep in mind that the RP alumnis that I mentioned earlier are hard working and high achievers.

    Fire class participation please.... its subjective and unfair for stuents who are smart and introverted. Like imagine students cant get good GPA due to inability to please cher. Also there is conflict of interest in class, its toxic to put class participation part of grading. I have been talking about this since year 1!!! Now year 2 already gg to year 3. I want to do sth b4 I graduate! RP principal please see this.

    • @ver3846
      @ver3846 Před 2 lety +7

      Hmmmmm then those who are not academically smart, their gpa will be bad too because they don’t have class participation to pull them up 🙃 plus class participation is only 10-20%… 80% is literally based on deliverables as well as team assignments… So, maybe class participation isn’t the problem but you not helping yourself to step out of your comfort zone is the problem.. Maybe, if you start to fight for your participation in class, you will see that it is actually pretty useful and who knows, it may boost your ability to be able to speak up and not stay within what you think is comfortable.

    • @wt7028
      @wt7028 Před 2 lety +9

      @@ver3846 agree with the comfort zone. But the thing is that do you think teachers know 20 students personally well to give a objective grade for that 20%? Also, its about inclusiveness... why not those who likes to talk alot step out of their comfort zone? In addition, can you imagine 20 students talking non stop just to please the cher... it's just plain non inclusive to those who are smart and quiet.

    • @ver3846
      @ver3846 Před 2 lety +2

      @@wt7028 I don’t think there’s actually a need to know the students personally because even the quietest and smartest person will speak up to answer a question and the lecturer will even ask for their name when they answer a question or give an opinion. Maybe not for you. Other than that, you keep mentioning smart and quiet. I believe that you are smart but… if that’s the case, I would like to assume that your other segments for the rubrics is level 4. Well then, I clearly don’t see a need for class participation to be above level 2 to get better grades and a better gpa. Also, if anyone is getting anything below level 2 for class participation… there’s actually something wrong because it’s almost impossible to get a level 0/1 for class participation unless you don’t speak or you don’t show team effort because it’s also part of the 20% no?

    In Singapore you can hardly survive in white collar jobs unless u got degree.
    With diploma, ur starting pay is sh*t and you will hard it hard to progress to managerial positions unless u are extremely capable and hardworking
    So JC is a better and preferable route as the quota for them to go local uni is way higher, thanks to our singapore Govt.

    They do sound like they cannot make it to JC, that’s why poly.
    I used to have options to go a good JC in singapore, but I went straight to poly and to a rather obscure course due to ignorant and vanity reasons. Worst decision ever. So I can’t make it to local uni, when I know I surely could if I go JC as I m quite an academic theory type of person, rather than projects practical type.
    Still one of my worst decisions as many employers still prefer local uni

    Just by hearing these kids speak, u know they are not the super intelligent type, except for the one who went 1 year JC.. the next one that sound somewhat smart is the guy in specs.. the rest doesn’t sound so bright sorry
