I think the funniest thing you can do with polukranos, engine of ruin specifically is just cast a lot of hydra's with no x paid and they just enter and die to state based actions because a lot of them just have counters, and you turn it into like 1 green mana for 2 3/3's. with anything that draws you cards whenever a creature enters the battlefield that's 3 draw triggers or 2 draws for elemental bond style effects

3 block sets, good story, a side release( conspiracy, battle bond, planes Chase) a yearly commander and a core set. Very simple and easy to keep up with and save up for. 😂 I love duel decks.
@@robertlane3850 I started in 93 and only recently began getting into Commander again. MtG has never been perfect. Wizzies do us and even themselves no favors with the glut of confusing unfocused products.
Shuffling it into the deck can allow you to send it straight to your command zone, which let's you bounce it away from effects like kenriths transformation or any steal ability or the like.

One thing you missed on Rankle and Torbran is that they work similarly to BFZ Drana - they have First Strike, so their on-combat-damage trigger will happen after first strike but _before_ normal combat damage, so buffing all your other damage to players/battles that turn by +2 will apply to all your other non first strike creatures' combat damage.
Also, for Rona, you can proc her backside trigger yourself to play your hand for free. Sure, UB isn't the _best_ colors for pinging, but there are still a fair number of effects that you can use to proc her yourself to play things from your hand for free. You can even put out multiple lands, since she says "put" and not "play."
Rona + Pestilence should be fun to try. Good that the front side helps finding your pieces.

Urbask feels so much better than any other card in the set. It may be because it already fits into ruby storm builds and that it arguably power-creeps birgi out of her own deck

A note on Zurgo and Ojutai: I believe that because it says “one or more dragons” and not “a dragon” it only triggers once, not at each dragon, so I definitely wouldn’t put it that high up, but that’s just me.
I definitely think it'd be a b-tier at most if its only a one time activation
Depends on the number of opponents and/or battles that were dealt combat damage by your dragons. Say you have 3 opponents and each of them have a battle to protect and you were able deal combat damage to each of them including the battles with your dragons then Zurgo and Ojutai triggers six times.
I have played Jin-gitaxias and it is a lot more powerful then it looks because you are mono blue and proliferate is quite easy in blue. Also you can kinda control the game. Every time I have flipped it I won the next turn or the turn after

Glissa seems like a really good Alien xenomorph commander. She makes alien eggs, can wake them up, and gives them first strike and deathtouch which definitely feel xenomorphy with their sneak striking and acid blood.
I actually really like Kogla and yidaro. Sure I’m not gonna be running it as a commander, but it’s a perfect fit for my polymorph deck, where I need creatures in my deck else they’re useless. The fact that I can turn a dead draw into enchantment removal is rlly good. I run yidaro for the same reason.
What’s the commander for that deck?
Xyris, I wanted something weird that can generate card draw and tokens. I rarely play him but he has come in clutch a couple times. Not the best commander for a deck like this by any means, but you know. SNEK
You also have to remember that with vorinclex, you're pulling 2 lands out of your deck before you mill, making it a nicely lower chance you hit lands when you need creatures.
The flip commanders into a Saga are good, yes, however it allows more than one turn around the board for opponents to react with removal. Harder to pull off, but if you get there and 6 other turns have occurred with no interaction it is on them :)
If you run ways to proliferate, you can actually get all the effects off the same turn you transform them.
I feel like zurgo and Ojutai should swap with Rona, Herald of Invasion. Z&O take longer to come online and the ability is not as easily to abuse as Rona. Rona is essentially a cheap looter that only has upsides for 2 mana and can do a lot a work with many dimir combo lines. If you want to get even more degenerate then you can abuse her backside and ping her to play so many spells from your hand for free.
Etali's front side is one of those commanders that gets stronger the more opponents you play against and I love that.
well others call it "cheesy" if you play something like that in bigger pods. for example, araumi makes that better or let's say more fair as she needs to exile more (even if its just a little downside for like 8 agent of treachery + panharmonicon triggers).

Having built and playtested a Heliod Deck, it's OP. If you untap with it on the field it's almost a guaranteed win with the ability to do everything at flash and for cheap

I’m super disappointed polukranos is in D I thought all of the recursion effects in white like abiding grace paired with casting a hydra for X is 0 was pretty strong
You actually can break Kroxa and Kunoros. Altar of Dementia last you sacrifice your commander on the stack, so you can return you commander to repeat this loop. You’ll net one card in the yard. So you can set something up like Fiend Hunter + Karmic Guide + Altar of Dementia to mill your opponents out.
Hidetsugu is underrated. They can just win on the spot in one turn with a deck full of clones/reanimator and some time walks.

Even though it's a C I kind of like the idea of Surrak and Goreclaw. I'm down for mono colors more now as I've only ever done 2-3 in color combinations
I think Vorinclex deserves at least A tier, though I might be biased. With his ETB he pays for himself, so commander tax can basically be ignored. If your opponent kills him, you just get to cast him again and get two more forests. As CGB puts it, "hes a big giant monster that makes sure you hit youe land drops to play your other big giant monsters". Probably my favorite mono-green commander right now, hes crazy.
i agree on most cards with you. although i dont like mechanics (proliferate, infect , poisonous or phyrexian mana in general) because they are too strong, I like the idea that there are new pseudo-commander for example Zimone and Dina . in addition all stuff is now corrupted by the process of Phyrexia and so there are new powers to creatures like Etali.
And Yargle actually is God-tier because he can swing and kill with commander damage. xD
How about the 3 prerelease promo creatures, like goro goro and satoru
Polukranos is far from weak though considering most hydras cost 1 to 2 mana if you don't put anything into X and with 0 toughness they die. So for 1 to 2 mana you could put 6/6 power onto the board between 2 bodies.
No Slimefoot and Squee?
I feel like new Jolraelis perfect for a creature duplication deck. You create clones of the land creature and ramp from what is typically a payoff

That one spell that creates X Land Dryads was tailer made for this commander
Especially in Simic, X will most likely be 7+ mana. Once all those dryads that get through hit thats good draw power
But this is only just a small Move to do since it’s relying of casting/creating those tokens with just one card
With rankle remember his ability buffs all other attacking creatures as wel because he has first strike so he is a mini anthom however his effect is symmetrical so it also buffs opponents power
Also ronna if you use pestilence you can use it to ramp/ play random spells from your hand for free as long as you can damager her with an effect it doesn't say opponent damages her
For Sheoldred if you could somehow put a fire mana you could run sire of sanity for 4 black red and at the beginning of each end step every player discards their entire hands
Kogla - a 7/7
Yidaro - a 8/8
Both working together - a 7/7

My next commander didn't even make the cut. I'm building a Shalai and Hallar deck centered around hydras and tyranids to have some +1/+1 counters fun.
you could also hit rona yourself and cheat ur whole hand in if u can do it consistently
The second I saw drana and linvala I knew it is going to be a big stax commander. With Urborg and kormus bell out you lock your opponents out. Great, more karn 'wins' decks.
The true tactic: New Brimaz commander, with all versions of Elesh Norn and Sheoldred.

Ashamed to say I bought a box to get the sick alt Omnath art, hopefully I pull a Thalia in it so I can build both the new decks.
Gush gives Jin Gitaxias +5 cards in hand for flip and blue gives access to great proliferate spells
I'm unable to not kill the whole table by turn 6 at the latest with Jin, should definitely be s tier
Like I really don't know how urabrask gets to be a tier above him, Jin is a menace, especially with ward 2 to protect him (not to mention HIS FLIP DRAWS AT LEAST 7 CARDS AAAAHHH)
Dont put draw reducers in heliod, fucks up his storm, but you can put in dampning sphere, and it wont hurt your deck at all, a storm deck utilizing stax pieces is scary

Mitch, you're dead wrong about Glissa. She builds an army so fast, and the fact that she doesn't need to attack makes a big difference. If you're curving out and getting an incubate token on turn two and three, she suddenly has four tokens to transform. Played against her in the prerelease, and it was dominating. At the very least, high B or A tier.
To All the ur-dragon players out there, will the new Zurgo and Ojutai make it into your list?

@@Gaafhahdrim24 I dont see the big pay of in an dedicated dragon deck 🤔 ok I look at three cards and can pick one. Its a 5 mana creature with haste and flying. Lastly you can pick up a Dragon that attacked this turn.

@@kiritokaguya9180 My reasoning is it helps out with digging for other dragons, and I feel like it syncs fairly well with Silumgar the Drifting Death to get a clear shot. A few of my creatures can give double strike as well so in theory it can activate twice but Im gonna have to see what the rulings are for it in that regard

I think you missed the point that for Jin gitaxias you pretty much only have to activate it once, and then it fuels itself- because of the requirement, you always draw a minimum of 7 cards when he transforms. This ability costs 4. With the price and ward, he's gonna be insane

I'd rank Rona and Ayara higher (A), as both are fine front side and disturbingly abusable flipped. Pinging Rona yourself sounds amazing, and Ayara's "unearth" has no replacement effect, only exiles at end step (unlike the Unearth mechanic and, say, Whip of Erebos), so you can sacrifice the thing before the trigger.
Not so high on any Praetor unless the deck proliferates the counters on the Saga side, and assuming the ranking is AS commander, them being monocolored hurts this a little. Sheoldred and Urabrask at A, Norn and Jin-Gitaxias at B and Vorinclex at C, as he's better off in the 99 of decks that can properly profit on searching (non basic) Forests.
I'd rank Zurgo and Ojutai lower along with Etali, at B. Etali's front side isn't all that abusable in its colors, but sure, a blink deck wreaks havoc with it. ZaO looks barely ok in a Sneak Attack setup, but I admit Dragon synergies usually perform better than any of the pieces read individually.
I think I agree with pretty much everything else.
It may be my stigma against red, but I think Urabrask is being highly overrated just because he's the first good one. He's still fine, but he's definitely not the best praetor, so I'd switch him & Jin. You said it yourself that proliferating would do them well & blue has good proliferate cards. On top of that, all of The Great Synthesis chapters are guarranteed massive value, meanwhile Urabrask's first two are very meh in comparison.
I also think Thalrog should definitely be S tier just for the sheer amount of versatility it offers. Maybe at casual tables it'll be hated out, but it's likely gonna be a mainstay of the format with how insanely quickly it's already climbed the Abzan ladder.
@@malmasterson3890 The Great Synthesis reads great but below high powered/cEDH, is THOUGH to abuse, and in those environments there are better things to do. Casuals (like myself) just love no max hand size beyond reasonability. I do agree Blue is the best or at least tied for it on Proliferate, but the payoff is not there unless we find a combo finish. I've ranked Urabrask and Sheoldred higher than the others because they have the better front sides. I'd be down to play Urabrask without ever planning to flip him, the body and Mana return on spell is decent already.
As for Thalia and the Gitrog Monster, I believe it SHOULD wear off on playability, but WON'T because of the characters' popularity. It's overcosted for any part you'd like to focus on and the ensemble doesn't go anywhere. They remind me of KTK's Anafenza, which had its time high on popularity until people realized she just wasn't worth it.
@Rodrigo S. Pereira I'd just rather play Birgi over Urabrask. I agree there's more of a build around for Urabrask's front side, but card advantage is always really good, and all 3 of The Great Synthesis chapters give you insane value whether you have the win or not. 4 mana draw 7, then evacuate, then omniscience that draws off of 3+ drops is crazy good. The only problem I see is that it'll likely be very degenerate.
I don't really think it's the character so much as it is the card advantage, ramp, non-basic & creature hate, 4/4 for 4, first strike+dwathtouch, and Abzan colors all in 1 that's gonna make it so good & popular. Anafenza doesn't hold a candle to this, and while it's certainly no Prosper or Golos, it's definitely following that framework. The fact that it has no clear focus is only a point in its favor, as the sheer number of directions you can go with it & be good is limitless compared to what the rest of Abzan's cast has to offer.
In a talk permeated by the idea of powercreep, is kinda weird that borborygmos tag up card is weaker than borborygmos enraged...maybe the big guy is holding back to not hurt his little friend? xD
Glissa may also be a bit undervalued as it can generate 2 artifacts a turn

Also, Polukranos deserved better. W/G for every token doubler & you just play hydras for 0 mana but end up making like 6 tokens off of G mana spent. Then if Elemental Bonds or Tribute to the Worldtree are on the battlefield, you can pay one green mana, cast a hydra for 0. It dies, you make like six 3/3 tokens because of course you have atleast two token doublers on the field. The Bonds or Tribute trigger & you draw six cards. All for G.
Omnath GDP(God damn pareators) and I know the gods you know put in with this the Dominis paraders
Kroxa and kunoros is definitely not A tier . Furthermore, there are virtually no clone effects in its colors, so not sure why you mentioned that as an option to implement as the commander of a deck.
Polukranos can be played as an X = 0 commander for shenanigans.

@@minutemadeinc Indeed, one of many scary synergies. I have an entire Torbran deck that is focused on red copies. This will easily be a bomb as the commander and in the 99 of many Red decks.

Omnath feels like a mistake. He's like Golos in a way: 5 color decks that didn't have a specific commander can just run this guy and they still get all of his benefits. At least he's not colorless!
Flipping jin pretty much wins you the game on the spot, Id say that he could be considered for S tier
