If you’re in the US or Canada, I definitely suggest looking into knitpicks yarns. Their acrylic yarns are some of the softest I’ve found and their plant fiber yarns are affordable and high quality. They’re also almost always running a sale on something, whether it be certain yarns or tools.

If you live in America then sign up for premier brand emails and you will get notifications of sales. They always have free shipping over a certain amount (which they lower at certain times of the year)
They do lots of sales. I don’t pay more than 50 cents an ounce for acrylic
Also you can go in on an order with someone too ❤️

    • @iesika7387

Online, check out Ice yarns closeout section - they are based in Turkey and have a lot of yarns that are natural fiber blended with acrylic, which brings the price down, and their closeout section sometimes has killer deals - for example they have their winter colors of their 50/50 wool/acrylic worsted at $1.75 for 100g/150m right now
I also recommend hitting up the thrift stores. Check if your area has an art/craft supply exchange or a crafters swap meet (or organize one if there isn't one yet! Everyone meets up to swap their stashes). Overstock stores like Big Lots sometimes have yarn as well.

I think a lot of the attraction of WATG is their aesthetic - it appeals past the yarn itself - the font, the logo, the packaging, the social media. • @mollymollie6048
    @mollymollie6048 Před 2 lety +35

I liked several of the yarns, and appreciate that this company works to make their yarn more environmentally safe (and yes, this costs money, I get that) but have been an avid knitter for years and I know my yarn. This yarn, like you mentioned on quite a few of them, were very nice yarns, but can also be found at equal quality for a much, much better price, even from high end yarn companies. There was nothing so unique or special about them that I couldn’t easily substitute a less expensive/same quality/same fiber yarn for. For this reason, I wouldn’t purchase their yarns. I tend to make sweaters and socks…the sweaters especially are a big time and money investment for a quality merino, for example, and when I’m buying a sweater quantity of yarn, spending 20 to 25% more becomes a very significant price difference, for essentially the same product. That being said, I wanted to thank you for your great and honest reviews, and all of your videos that I enjoy watching. You may say, “you said you were a knitter, I’m a crochet channel,” and that’s true. I do know how to crochet, but prefer knitting, to each their own. But, I still love to see what can be made, and reviews on yarn. Also, I have never done Tunisian crochet…and you have me sold on it. I’m going to get some hooks and give it a try. I absolutely love how the Tunisian stitches look, as well as the fabric they produce…looking forward to learning something new! Thanks, Toni!

Don't feel bad about being a knitter enjoying crochet videos. I'm a crocheter who loves the Fruity Knitting podcast. I've learned so much about fiber, garment construction, design, and fiber careers and resources. They also feature crochet designers occasionally. We can all learn from each other.

@@kayjeanne8346 Absolutely!!! I do crochet a few things from time to time (no matter what hooks I use, it gives me tendinitis in my forearm) but prefer knitting. It think being a yarn enthusiast is perhaps a better term for watching videos doing a craft you don’t always do! You are so correct in the importance of learning about the fiber construction, how the yarn will work up, last, lay and hang. How to substitute yarns and understand how to do this well. How to know how to pick yarns that will work for different projects, and, like great reviews from Toni, just how good or bad the yarn is. Toni also gives me tons of ideas for how to put colors together. She has such a great sense for color combinations (I have no skills in this area) and she comes up with beautiful combinations that I never would have considered! Thanks, Toni!! I’m actually excited about this! I don’t get the expensive price of these yarns. I got their tape yarn in a kit to crochet a bag a year or two ago and was really disappointed by the pattern and the yarn. I hated working with this yarn, and the bag ended up super heavy and unusable.
I know they’re really popular amongst younger trendy knitters because they make that super bulky yarn, but oh god the price. I could always find great equivalents for much cheaper. They have amazing colors tho, for someone like me who loves bright colored yarn, it’s hard to find good dupes.

I have been a knitter for 40+ years… but I learned how to crochet from your tutorials! Thank you so much Toni! Your teaching style is the way that works for me! Your instructions have resulted in straight edges which was the bane of my existence🤦🏻‍♀️I bought a couple of Wool And The Gang kits about 3 years ago and enjoyed it very much. My favorite yarn has to be the cotton Aran weight. I used it for a crochet blanket and a shawl that had an amazing drape. I have a slight problem with buying new yarns online. It’s hard to know the way it feels while working with it. It’s also hard to really know what the textures feel like and the colors look in person. Your review was great because it was really informative. Great for ppl who haven’t worked with it yet. Thanks again for sharing your knowledge and your creative ideas! I love the patterns that you suggested with the yarns. I can't afford them. But there were some interesting ones, I like the cotton.

my thing with any kind of single ply yarn is that yes you will have to maintain it to keep it from pilling and getting things like hair stuck in it. that's just how it will always be with that kind of yarn. it's a nice thing to have for photoshoots or to have out as a decor piece when inviting people over to see whatever space you have it in but other than that it's the worst yarn to use for anything you want to actually use for its intended purpose. i have a couple of shawls made from single ply yarn and while they're not as bad as they could be they're still not great. I do make an effort to keep them nice looking by regularly shaving the pills but again after one or two uses they need it again.

I have always thought their yarn was so expensive. Over the years I now prefer to knit with a fingering weight. I don't like the feel of the bulk weight yarn while knitting. So glad you took the hit for all of us.

I knit socks with their yarn for years. Very interesting unusual pattern emerge (if stitch count is correct). Use wool setting machine laundry. For men socks prefer Schaffenmayr Pairfect because of huge color/pattern selection. Price reflects quality.

years and years ago during a black friday sale I splurged and bought myself a few skeins from wool and the gang and ever since I've been too nervous to use them because of the price LOL. However, that shiny happy cotton TRULY is the softest cotton yarn I've ever felt and it's incredible.

Hi Toni can I honestly say I was put off many off your yarn snob videos by the thumb nail because you were pulling a face in many and took me finding one of your other videos to realise it was a joke because yoi are always smiling. 😂😂

Totally agree with you about the put up of Ra Ra Raffia. I find that pulling from the middle helps until the tube is about half done and then it falls apart. At that point I just wind it into a ball. But manually since it does not play well with a ball winder.

Your energy is so bright and contagious and I love the way you describe your experience of testing the yarns and I love watching you make your swatches. The yarn you gave the 10/10, I can’t remember the name, that swatch and color combo made me so happy! Absolutely stunning! I’m really excited to check out some of your glorious patterns as well. So happy to have found your channel! 💕💕💕

I love the idea of recycled cashmere & the new 100% non-animal fiber option. My wife is a vegetarian and leaning vegan. So, cottons and bamboos are in my life. Additional options are great!

I appreciated your thorough and thoughtful review! I was curious about this yarn because of the pretty packaging and some of the CZcams vids they've been posting. Hi Toni! Beautiful yarns but the price tag is so far out of my budget but I enjoy the review! With that said, you give the most satisfying, almost musical reviews of anyone on CZcams. Even if I can’t afford some of the yarns you review, just to listen to your melodic harmony of these yarns is so so satisfying. Thank you so much. Enjoy your day!🦋

I have just discovered your channel - what a delight! I appreciate this review as I don’t know many people who have used WATG. I’m oddly glad to hear that Crazy Sexy Wool is problematic - I’ve not had any success with roving yarn either.
I’m wanting to try crocheting with raffia yarn. I’d love a review of different brands - Ra Ra Raffia looks great but it is pricey.
