- In this video, I show you a DIY swimming pool solar blanket reel that my dad made. It was really easy and inexpensive to make, and he made it with pipe. It allows you to roll up your pool's solar blanket, and then move the blanket to the side (away from the pool). You can easily replicate this DIY project for the solar blanket on your own swimming pool. It is a cheap alternative to the ones that you can buy at the store, and works just as effectively as the others!

A clever and simple idea but was hoping to see a step-by-step DIY
Do you have a list of materials that you used for this DYI as I am wanting to make on for our 16 ft across above ground pool..thank you!
PVC sags a lot metal that doesn't rust is the only way to go.
That's awesome! Thank you!
WOW! Love it! fabulous idea!!!
Thanks!
A very clever and simple idea that does the job quite nicely! Thanks for sharing!
And that children is how you ruin a blanket by the end of summer. Wow.
pretty cool
did you glue or solder the pipes are they metal or pvc did you paint them and the silver metal post for out of pool reel station post did you pour a cement portion to hold the pole firmly into ground? what size is your pool? where did you fasten straps? why didnt you attach near both sides and center? is that a no no i have so many questions thank you for posting and btw you are lucky to have such a cool dad to do that for you cool so kind.
what size pipe did you use is that just a chainlink fence post you hook it toowhen you move the 1 side
Vgood idea& as simple as it gets, all you need is pipe& glue for the reel all of which you can get from a local plumbers merchant who should be easily able& happy to get the right sizes, this isn’t a video about the cover but you can buy that or cut something to measure from tarpaulin.
My pool like most isn’t raised or huge so I plan to just lift my reel to the side or prop it in a corner, both easily possible by1able adult as plastic pipes extremely light. This reel is only raised as it’s on a raised pool. I will likely buy white pipe as it’s more available& absorbs less heat than black so should last longer.
I'd like to see you put that cover back on the pool. Or did I miss something?
Me too.
Yes me as well!
Don't yall hate that, they show the easy part never the hard part!
What size pipe is that? 2" sch 40?
How do you put the blanket back onto the pool? I am assuming you have to be in the pool to get it started?
I'm building one today!! Thanks for the idea
very cool. what size pipe? pvc or metal?
Yes
Rest in peace solar blanket
where did you find the brackets that are mounted to the pool rails
Thanks, looks god, would have liked to see you roll it back opnto the pool.
How wide is the pool in this case?
I wondering the same..... metal or plastic?
What brand pool is that
Nice
Can you add materials list?
Would you mind giving specifics about the materials used?
Yes I would.like also so I can make a similar one for a 16 ft across abrove ground pool
How did you attach the straps to the pool cover?
Yes would like to know the materials for the whole thing and a breakdown of building it
Need better details. Just saying it is made from "pipe" doesn't cut it. I am wondering how you attached the rope to the cover without tearing it? Rivets?
Most pool places sell pool cover straps that include the plastic grommets for around $15.00.
What about leaves and other things that will land on top as the cover is on?
Clean them off.
I love use Avasva Solutions for that issue.
Man that looked like some greenscreen shit until he touched the pvc
Try that with a 16 mil solar blanket
🤯
smart
was that made from plastic pipe
Frank Mchugh I was wondering the same, PVC pipe?
Wondering the same thing please?
I can tell looking at it.... yes it's 2" PVC is the bigger stuff the smaller stuff is 1 1/2" pvc and looks like the post that goes into the ground is 1 1/2" galvanized steel pipe.
As a plumber I’m sure it’s 3” & 2”.
I know more about diy from Avasva handbooks!
Did you just come from a 1935 prison? Nice shirt
