  • The Toyohashi Railroad Atsumi Line (豊橋鉄道渥美線 Toyohashi Tetsudō Atsumi-sen) is a railway line in eastern Aichi Prefecture, Japan, operated by the private railway operator Toyohashi Railroad ("Toyotetsu"). The line runs from the centre of Toyohashi, traversing the centre of the Atsumi Peninsula, a largely rural district noted also for its hot spring resorts and marine sports as part of Mikawa Wan Quasi-National Park. The line is entirely within the cities of Toyohashi and Tahara.
    The northern terminal station for the Atsumi Line is located at Shin-Toyohashi Station. All trains run to the southern terminus at Mikawa Tahara Station at approximately 15 minute intervals. There are no express trains on the line.
    Atsumi line is operated using a fleet of ten three-car 1800 series electric multiple unit (EMU) trains.
    These trains were modified from former Tokyu 7200 series EMUs. All trains are configured for One-man operation.

    Japan's commitment to keep these smaller routes operating is amazing. Can't help but think a US tycoon would have cancelled service and pulled up rails long ago.

    Looks like an enjoyable line to ride. Two things stood out with me. First, every road crossing no matter the density of traffic had crossing gates. Second was, the spring switches had the english letter "S" on the switch stand target the same as over here in the US.

    高頻度のパターンダイヤだと時刻表要らずで手軽に電車に乗れるので、乗客増加が大いに期待出来るでしょうに。

    豊橋鉄道はまだ乗ったことないけど、地方私鉄にしては路盤が良いですね。もちろん揺れはあるけれど。
    先日、富山地鉄と北鉄に乗ってきたけど、結構ぼろぼろな感じで、駅の方もホームも駅名標も朽ちかけています。特に富山地鉄の方はそんな感じなので、大丈夫かなあと思わされました。

    • @AlexandruLipan
      @AlexandruLipan Před 4 lety +1

      In the majority of cases, yes. The toyotetsu, for example, is controlling also a streetcar and few local and long distance bus lines. A lot of this third level suburban lines (the so called electric railways) are also included into the local fare system, and being suburban lines, can serve pretty populated areas. To be a single company with a bare 18 km railway, the toyotetsu can count an economic positive of 225 milion yens, or 2 milion dollars.
      Problem can arise on r e a l l y rural areas, where most electric railways (the level of service, not the tipe of train) are running barebone and are recieving prefecture-owned economic support.
      This remind of the base rule of transportation: you have transportation where people need to move.

    • @youcanpunchmeintheface
      @youcanpunchmeintheface Před 4 lety

      @@AlexandruLipan the key here is: people. People in rural Japan are increasingly scarce hence less people travelled and in turn reduced revenue to a point where the company couldn't even bear the loss to continue run the railway.
